Australia- Two sisters in their 20s found dead inside Sydney unit had been there lengthy time, Suspicious deaths, June 2022

It would be! If they died with the heater on, it would be very hot. If we forget to turn our ducted heater off before going to sleep we have to get up during the night to turn it off as it gets so hot. And it was cold in May.
Carbon monoxide testing in rental properties became mandatory in NSW in March 2020. It has to be done every two years.

The heating must have passed the test in 2020- it would be very unlikely to fail less than 2 years later. It was also very likely it was tested before they died anyway as it would have been overdue for a test by May. The PM would have these records, in my property this is all outsourced to a third party company that the PM uses. It's standard practise and the PM would not have been able to not have the testing done. I think this is the most unlikely cause. I have never heard of poisoning occurring in newer homes or apartments in Austalia. It is usually heaters like this in old houses that are faulty and leak carbon monoxideView attachment 357915.

Simple question. The sisters also owed $ 26 in utilities. Is it possible that with their unpaid rent and utilities, heat was cut off? What about electricity? Or is it impossible to do so in a multi-flat complex? (Thinking about sisters using unusual way of heating).

But they are easing things for women, no?
Traditions and customs take decades to change.

I believe young generation will force the changes.

They are. But it is not one man’s decision. Women are allowed to drive, hijab might soon be not mandatory, it seems that the Saudis actively participated in consanguinity studies. But…the west is moving forward, too. So there will be still a hiatus. And one rather progressive leader can do only that much, after all, he has to be accepted and supported by all his subjects and all clerics.

Geez google maps is creepy! Is this their car-same model and same wheels? Is this where they were parking illegally and the supposed reason why the car was keyed?
The last google maps photo of the Canterbury rd side of the building was taken in May 2022. This link showing the car parked at the servo is dated Dec 2018
I have just realised I have made an error, this BMW is shown in 2022, not 2018, I hadn't clicked it properly.

Greater Sydney has had some depressing weather this year (2022)
Cool and very wet.

Lots of outdoor construction and other outdoor workers whose work got cancelled in wet weather, went without work and pay on many of those rainy days.

For the nearby Canterbury BOM weather station, January had only 4 days where the maximum reached 30C.
With 32.1C being the highest and 18 days where it rained.

February 2022 was a shocker, with only 8 days with no rain. And 335mm total rain for the month

March 2022 was a washout, with a whopping 626mm of rain and only 7 days with no rain.

April 2022 had another 202mm of rain and only 9 days without rain

No, water doesnt get cut off, but if you don't use it you only pay the service charge or something. That $26 sounds about right for supply if you didn't touch a drop. See below from the water supplier where I live.

I think it would still be difficult for most women to overcome their familys' cultural beliefs too, I think majority would be oppressed, even if the rules are eased, I don't think many woman will realistically have access to these freedoms, the govt may allow them but convincing their male guardians or the men in their family would be another barrier.

But then, this could give us a guesstimate of when they died. As long as they were alive, they’d be using something. Water, gas, electricity. If it suddenly stopped, this would be close to the date of death. If the utilities company get the integrated use over the month and can’t spread it over the days, it won’t be that helpful, unless they died at the very beginning of the new cycle.

Stair dancers - I've never heard of that term before! :D
I heard it back in the early '90s when I was living in a building where people were pretty friendly but relaxed about security.

The Xmas tree shaped air freshener? hanging off the inside windscreen in the Daily Mail article of the BMW being towed away, is a match for the same in this front on view from this Google Street View different angle of the Canterbury BP BMW.

Hi @Arboreal

Thank you. I am trying to focus on how they lived.
I remember that for me moving to the US was difficult, but emigrants from my part of the world had one benefit. The rules in our home countries were so idiotic, that we lived by bending them all. So, as I understand now, against Americans, we were flexible, sarcastic and never believed any mass media. Plus, there was a huge community that was very supportive.

Now imagine coming from the part of the world where you might be killed for opening your face, for walking unattended by a male guardian, where there is an app for him to allow or forbid you to do something. There was a reason I mentioned that TikTok, @jezeel.56 hadil Just to see how easy to be “honor killed” for doing regular teenage things.

Be it the girls came with agreement of their family, or escaped, and were in hiding in some intermediate country, in either way, it was a very different world.

So for our sisters, to sit at home would have been safe, everything else, taking off the headscarves, being in a mixed group of coeds, inviting men to their home, everything that for us is normal, would be a huge stress. Maybe this is what they were scared of?
Hello Charlot123
Thank you for sharing your experiences with the forum. I really appreciate it and I'm sure others reading do too. We who live in countries like the US and Australia and Europe, forget how unrestricted we are in many ways but also how manipulated we can become, from the media, because those in more repressive places have to develop healthy skepticism.
Thanks again.

The CO theory would be a freak/rare event in a newer building like this. All of the cases that I am aware of have been older homes with old heaters- not modern ducted heating which these apartments would have
I recall seeing in one of the interior photos that the apartment had inbuilt airconditioning, at least in the kitchen/living area.

I would want to see evidence of them buying chemicals (transactions/receipts/cctv) or researching methods on their phones to back up the suicide theory. So far, I feel the opposite that there is no evidence of suicide other than the fact they are both dead. Girls don't get to leave SA and live independently without punishment if they are caught. SA govt don't like the idea of women getting out, and the SA govt has a reputation for murdering individuals who wrong them or embarrass them.

Hi websleuth1111. That is a good point the journalists do nt seem to have covered yet - what is their purchase history? If they paid cash, it might be difficult to trace what they bought; but if they paid by eftpos, then there is a record. I would presume the police would be following up on this angle.
The other thing that I am puzzled about is that in the reports I've seen about the first place the sisters stayed, the landlord was interviewed, but does not seem to have been asked, by journalists why the sisters left and moved to the Canterbury apartment.

I thought "traffic control" is only conducted by police officers (traffic and road police), not by some random people.

In my country I only saw police officers directing traffic.

I case of road works, there are warning signs with arrows showing detours.

MOO
In Australia it is usual for traffic control on construction sites to be done by the construction company. And a lot of women do this job. See this story. But usually, they are wearing a hat, as an OHAS issue.

Did no bugs escape the apartment into other units, or would the bleach keep them from ''arriving'' in the first place?
Not pleasant to think about, but wondering if any insect activity has been analyzed to confirm that both women died at the same time, as opposed to say one dying several hours or days after the other sister, imo, speculation.

''When a suspicious death occurs, a forensic entomologist may be called to assist in processing the crime scene. Insects found on or near the body may reveal important clues about the crime, including the victim's time of death''.

''Using the known ADD, she can then calculate the likely age of a specimen from the corpse, adjusting for the temperatures and other environmental conditions at the crime scene. Working backward through physiological time, the forensic entomologist can provide investigators with a specific time period when the body was first colonized by necrophagous insects. Since these insects almost always find the corpse within minutes or hours of the person's death, this calculation reveals the postmortem interval with good accuracy.''

What a fantastic power of observation! Yes, the air freshener looks like a Santa carrying a heavy bag on the back. It would be unusual not to replace the air freshener, unless they bought several on a X-mas sale? On the other hand, raising people with ADD, I can tell that not replacing air freshener is super ADD-like, maybe even normal ADD behavior. Didn’t someone mention that their apartment was messy like that of regular college students, or teenagers? Maybe, it gives us an insight into their personalities?

You know how people are, “these sisters, they leave food in the common area, now cockroaches are coming”. People would not think of the body farm, even seeing some bugs.
