Bill Spedding's ex-brother-in-law a murdering rapist, court told

An accused paedophile questioned over the disappearance of toddler William Tyrrell is related to a murdering rapist.

Bill Spedding, 63, was arrested in April and was charged with five counts of sexually abusing two girls, aged three and six, in the 1980s.

He applied for bail before the NSW Supreme Court on Wednesday, where his defence argued his alleged victims may have come into contact with his former brother-in-law, Jeffrey John Hillsley.

BBM so this is his defence??? Hillsley did it? Give me a break

Why then would this be even mentioned by his defence? Is he an idiot?

Possible - but I have no idea why he would be using this unless he is going to say that the abuse happened at a different time.

I think they've bought it up because Bill Spedding is an absolute fool. I wonder how MS and son are feeling now. Are they still SO certain he didn't do these crimes.

Worlds colliding alright. Unbelievable. I really feel for Williams parents this afternoon. I hate to think of what is still to come out . :(

A Sydney paedophile who murdered a man before raping his young stepdaughter will spend the rest of his life behind bars.
The NSW Supreme Court had jailed Jeffrey John Hillsley for 30 years for murdering a friend and then kidnapping and raping the man's 10-year-old stepdaughter.

Hillsley had previously served jail time for sex offences against three young girls.
He had been out of jail for less than two years when he bludgeoned his friend to death with a hammer at the man's Campsie home in 2003.
He had sexually assaulted the man's stepdaughter during his earlier stay and, after the murder, abducted her at knifepoint and repeatedly raped her.

Prior offences - 12 years jail victims were aged 5 and 9 years.

I know. It just doesn't make sense. But how can they say the abuse happened at a different time when there is documented medical evidence.
Those woman who were 'allegedly' abused by him are incredibly brave coming out with this now.

The medical reports will conflict with that. But the way this seems to be going, it would not surprise me if they try to say that.

bbm: it also begs the possibility that the victims were abused by both BS and JH as JH was out on bail in 1989

I agree, these types of sickos like to stick together and often share "Birds of a feather flock together".

  • #1,049
Still possible JH appealed the breach of parole and was out at the time of offences

some people really pick some winners for in-laws dont they?

My gosh, bill certainly has a penchant for wives with dodgy families

Let's pray that the judge prosecuting BS learns from the mistakes of Jeffrey Hillsley. Throw Em in, throw away the key.

and this is only his bail hearing today, goodness knows the horrors to come out tomorrow!

God I really hope his bail is denied! :(

Hillsley is the victim's uncle.

That says Parole was revoked - IMO that means straight back to jail. If he wanted to appeal I would assume it would take months for the appeal to go through if at all.

ETA: Also in that link it says: He was released when his sentence expired, presumably by remission, in December 1989.

This was information in a case in 2005, if he had been released prior to 1989 I feel they would of mentioned in the case notes.

Hillsley is the victim's uncle.

And I thought at some stage it was mentioned that the victims were also related to BS? Or was it the property they were at, at the time, that was owned by a relative??

  • #1,060
It sounds like the defense is trying to discredit the mother of the victims due to the fact that her brother is a murderer and a paedophile. What he did has nothing to do with the mother of the victims IMO.
