I just had a question about the assumptions behind these times....

I don't live in the Kendall/Laurieton/Bonny Hills area but I do live in a regional area similar to them. Your time estimates seemed to be based around average speeds of 40km/hr which does seem quite slow for a regional area with barely any traffic lights or traffic. I would have expected the average speed to be closer to 80km/hr?

I live in the area, and I'd say the travel times are pretty close to accurate. Speed limits vary a lot in the area, and we can get quite a bit of traffic with tourists etc. Based on my experience, Laurieton to Kendall would be around 10 minutes, though with the highway lights in between this can be longer. Bonny Hills to Laurieton would be around 10 minutes by the quickest route. I haven't been to Dunbogan in years, so I couldn't tell you how long that trip takes.

Anything is possible ....and I am no detective.
But for mine it is just seems as though this may well be a case of spot and grab.
Opportunistic.
imo

I think this too. I think I even said early on that LE would already have some very credible leads, but would be spending serious time on gathering evidence.

Which is why there has been not a lot of info forthcoming from them, and the info that has been released has seemed to be very strategic.

It is one thing to know something, it is another thing entirely to prove it in a court of law. They would not want to stuff it up.

From many years of personal experience I can say with confidence that teachers are highly skilled at multi tasking and are able to do all that you have said here while at the same time taking note of which parents (or grandparents in this case) are interested enough to attend.

Most schools also have several CCTV cameras so it would simply be a matter of BS telling LE which way they entered the school and it could be easily verified.

CCTV depends on whether it's a private or public school. Public schools in this area don't have cameras, but the private schools probably do.

Thanks for clarifying. I only have experience in Qld in public (state) schools. I guess I just wrongly assumed that all schools would have them.

I'm still certain, though, that if they were indeed there, someone would be able to verify it. Afterall, if they were carers they would be known to the teachers, admin etc. In addition, the grandchildren would definitely know. It is always a special moment to receive an award on parade, and even moreso if family are there.

Is the grandson saying he wasn't there? I have not seen that in MSM
What if it's his grandson saying he was not there? My daughter got an award at the end of last school year (beginning of June). I can remember some of the other adults there, but definitely not all of them at this point. But, a child will remember if their guardian was there at such a special event in their life.

His name popped up as he had been to the house on 2 occasions in September, then he was questioned after a crimestoppers ?report
paraphrase

The name Bill Spedding popped up early in the inquiries.
He was routinely investigated - as were others that had been in contact with the family in the days leading up to Williams disappearance.
The decision was made at some point to step up the investigation and BS was interviewed.
Then came the raids of the house and business.

There was also a comment about staff refuting that BS had coffee there that day, I have not seen that reported in MSM. Link?

Sorry, am I supposed to have said that? I don't recall using those words at all. I have however been posting about verifying alleged credit card use there.

Here is one quote about inconsistencies...it states the LE checked him out because there were inconsistencies in what he told them. It then goes on to say people he named did not remember seeing him that day. Later on it mentions the Buzz Cafe as being one of the places he said he went to.

This one mentions the cafe again and a staff member who does not remember him being there that day. This one also mentions him going to his office that morning as well.

I dont believe the grandson ever said he didnt see him. It is just that nothing has ever been confirmed that anyone at all DID see him where he claims to have been. If you are madly protesting your innocence to the point where you make a video stating it...why wouldnt you use some evidence. You would shout from the rooftops if ANYONE remembered seeing you wouldnt you?

Very much agree re the appeals to a particular person...I think the comment about 'Australia will wrap its arms around you' and the placement (strategic?) of the billboards all point to that. I also think a woman although I have reservations as to who it is. May be someone who we dont even know of yet.
not sure why..maybe the handling of it all by police and FP's ...but I have always felt perhaps WT was alive and abducted by someone known to him either directly or indirectly
The sad part is that after this amount of time I don't feel whoever it was is about to return him...perhaps they were never going to from the start

I've often noticed this, ie that one could interpret things he says as being specifically worded to avoid actually lying. "I never did anything to hurt William Tyrrell" doesn't mean he wasn't involved, but it's not a lie if William wasn't hurt.

Also his statement going on and on about the "Tyrrell house". Even if he didn't know about William's history (about which we can't go into any detail, but most here know the relevant info in that regard), he would DEFINITELY know that grandma's name is not Tyrrell as she was one of his customers, so to say "I never went to the Tyrrell house that day" is completely true.

Could be coincidence ("Tyrrell house" just used to ensure everyone knows what he's talking about, or he's been told by legal counsel to use that name so as not to release names that haven't been mentioned in MM), or very careful wording by someone intent on ensuring they cannot be said (or seen, via body language etc, which would also give another reason, aside from reading, why he never looked at the camera) to be lying.
..........................................................................................................................................I'm assuming he was bound by legal to say Tyrell as they have gone to great lengths to keep FP's identity under wraps

Sorry I've lost track of this thread a bit.

Who gave William's case to the Morcombe coroner? Was it the police or William's family? Did the Morcombes urge the family to take this route?

I'm really curious, because I find it amazing that the Morcombes were able to have Daniel found after ten years, by starting the inquest.

Does this indicate that things were missed in William's case and that the inquest should be started sooner rather than later, to avoid this poor family waiting ten years like the Morcombes?

I'm not criticising the police but they are only human. I know they've done the very best they can and have been very emotionally invested in this case.

I don't think the secret operation they had going to get info out of Daniels killer would have worked too soon after he was murdered. There is a video of the meeting where they got the info out of him and it was beyond amazing police work.

A spokesman for the NSW Coroner’s Court yesterday confirmed that the matter was referred by police on January 30

The strike force, codenamed *Rosann, would normally be *expected to exhaust its inquiries before submitting a brief of evidence for Mr Barnes to then formally consider whether an inquest should be held.

Any such decision by the coroner would typically be made after consultation with the homicide squad detectives leading the investigation, as well as William’s family.

'The referral of William Tyrrell's disappearance to the local Coroner is in line with standard protocol for matters of this kind,' police said on Saturday.

With NSW police continuing with investigations into William's disappearance, it is unlikely that the coroner will launch an inquest into the case any time soon.

The friend said Mr Spedding then went to go meet his wife for coffee at Buzz Cafe, 140m away from his office on the opposite side of the street. Cafe manager Lisa, who did not wish to give her last name, said she recognised Mr Spedding and his wife but said they hadn't come into the cafe 'in a while

She told Daily Mail Australia that police had come into the cafe to ask if she recalled seeing Mr Spedding on September 12. 'I've seen him before but I can't remember that specific day,' she told Daily Mail Australia.
The friend said Mr Spedding and his wife then walked across the road to Laurieton Public School to attend a presentation for their grandson.
He told Daily Mail Australia Mr Spedding said he had also attended the presentation with a family friend who was taking photos.
Mr Spedding has asked her to review her pictures to see if he is in any of them, the friend said. On September 12, following the presentation, Mr Spedding went to a job in nearby Dunbogan before ringing William's grandmother again.

So, the café manager doesn't recall the specific date?
The friend should be able to verify that he attended the school, why has that not been verified in the media I wonder?
I thought he attended the job at 2pm but can't recall where I saw that.

There is a long long list of very unlucky co-incidences isnt there??

No, you didn't say that, I had no idea how to use the multi quote function and messed it up. Another person posted it but I lost it in the translation.

If I was making a video to protest my innocence I think I'd have statements from "all" the people who saw me at school Have we even been told what time the assembly was meant to start, and what time BS claimed to have arrived at school.
What if they both drove to Laurieton, MS went for coffee, BS went to his office, came
back, realised he had time to fix washing machine before the assembly started, he did not return in time and MS attended alone, he may have rung her and said he was going to go straight to the afternoon job.

I wouldn't even try to make a video statement in case people then made further allegations about what they think I did or lied about. He was only correcting the one issue, the fact he had only been to the house twice on those dates.
There is also the friend who could clarify and hasn't, the eftpos receipt that hasn't been clarified by the café, nor the police and the whereabouts of the washing machine part. Was it in the van, the office or at home?.
