Mr Spedding, 63, was one of hundreds of locals questioned by officers, coming to their attention only because of his contact with the family over the repair.

As they checked out everyone’s statements about where they were on that Friday, detectives allegedly found some inconsistencies in what Mr Spedding told them which led them to raid his former pawnbroking office in Laurieton and his home at Bonny Hills this week.

I thought it was worth noting that when anyone's home is raided LE need a warrant. You don't get a warrant easily, and you can't just decide on a whim to ask for one. You have to prove that the warrant is, for want of a better word, warranted.

Here is some information:
An application for a Search Warrant must set out the reasons that the police have for believing that they will find evidence on those premises. The police must satisfy the issuing Justice (who can be an authorised justice, a magistrate or a judge) that they have reasonable grounds to believe that there is, or will be at the time the warrant is executed, things that is connected with the offence and that the search is likely to lead to an arrest. The offence must be an indictable offence, or a firearms, drug, stealing or child 🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬 offence. The justice who issues the warrant must record the reasons why they granted the issue of the warrant or the warrant is invalid. The warrant lasts for 3 days unless it is extended by the justice. The police must provide a report back to the justice within 10 days of the warrant being executed.

I wish they would have given more details on the shirt like size, theme, boys, girls. If it wasn't related to William then was it related to an unknown child or one of his grandkids? But I do remember at the same time it was reported that William did have a shirt on under his Spidey Suit because he didn't want to wear a singlet. Just one more thing to always keep me thinking!

Thanks for bringing up the plumber again. With the new 60 minutes information we now know the spiderman outfit is a two piece outfit - consisting of a shirt and pants from Bali. IMO the plumber who found the shirt in the Speddings pipe probably tossed it out and didn't think twice about it until it was much publicised in media of the spiderman outfit William was wearing. The fact that he found a shirt and not a "all in one" costume probably triggered the police with another big red flag and prompted themdraining of the septic tank.

Further to my warrant post, I've also found this useful information from NSW police. Bolding by me.

To enter a person's home or any other private property without the invitation or consent of an occupier, the police must have a search warrant (except in emergency situations such as chasing an escaping suspect, or where there is apparently an assault occurring on the premises). To obtain a search warrant, the police must swear on oath to an authorised officer that they have reasonable suspicion of a crime being committed on those premises, and the basis of that suspicion (Law Enforcement (Powers and Responsibilities) Act 2002, sections 47, 47A and 48).

“From the reports I’ve read, he was just going out to fix someone’s washing machine. It could have been anyone, a plumber coming to fix a drain, its just be circumstance.

Yes I wonder why it took 12 months to release the fact the suit was 2 piece.
A day or 2 after the raids BS niece was comparing BS just going out to fix someones washer with that of a plumber fixing a drain.

Do we know when Tony Jones was jailed, if he has been in prison for twelve months, it must have been very close to the time William went missing, if before I'm confused how he can be a POI.

The offence occurred before William disappeared.

New Tyrrell person of interest

Jones arrested on the 27th Sept and other sex offenders have come to the attention of the police.
Though, no one has been charged in regard to William's disappearance.
Police are now getting reports from neighbours of suddenly strange - seeming behaviour.

Our judicial system is a mess IMO.

Too much focus on the rights of the accused, and almost no regard for the effect the crime has on the life (or death) of the victim of the crime and their family.

I appreciate deeply how things like "innocent until proven guilty", due process and diligence, rules of evidence etc protect a potentially innocent person from facing the might of the state and being treated in an arbitrary fashion. But we really need to look at how we can support victims and make sure their side is taken care of, at the same time as making sure every accused person gets a fair trial.

Tony Jones, William Tyrrell person of interest, jailed for molesting young child

TONY Jones, a person of interest in the disappearance of toddler William Tyrrell, has been sentenced to at least two years in jail for molesting a young child.
Jones, of Wauchope on the state’s mid north coast, was convicted of child sex offences after pleading guilty earlier this year and sentenced today to three years in prison with a non-parole period of two years.
Jones, 59, is being investigated by Strike Force Rosann – the team of detectives probing the suspected abduction of William Tyrrell.

The Daily Telegraph revealed earlier this month that Jones was under the microscope in relation to the disappearance of Spiderman-loving William. He was part of a group called GAPA (Grandparents As Parents Again) which police believe harboured a paedophile ring operating in the area.

The group’s former president Paul Bickford, who was close friends with Jones, is serving a suspended jail sentence for the indecent assault of a separate minor.

Spider-Man fan William Tyrell went missing last 12th September 2014.

Anthony Jones was arrested 27th September 2014, 15 days after William went missing.

Not taking his medication for a mental health condition and had been drinking to excess at the time of the offence. He has an extensive criminal history but not for offences such as these.

Wasn't it said it occurred over 2 years and he gave adhd medication to the victim.

But seriously this man was a member of a Grandparents As Parents Again.
So he was obviously caring for children ... how?
Just absolutely disgusting!

Not taking medication? Drinking in excess? That was the defences excuse? WOW. No words........

Hang on?? Didn't Mike Baird promise to extend life sentences to child sex crimes???

People who commit the crime of sexual intercourse with a child under 10 will be facing life behind bars as part of a package of strong child protection measures announced by Premier Mike Baird and Attorney General Brad Hazzard today.

“This is about protecting child victims of sexual assault and bringing paedophiles to justice,” Mr Baird said

If you were a plumber and you found this in a drain would you describe it as a suit/costume or a t- shirt?

  • #873
Soso it might have been inside-out and covered in slime.
Maybe the Spider-man pattern wasn't noticeable.

I'd say costume. Someone like my hubby who doesn't get detail specific would say tshirt. Wish we knew what the Spidey tshirt looked like that William had on "under" his Spiderman Costume. Police have never told us, have they? :/

I remember the discussion I had with William about putting on his Spiderman clothes because I wanted him to wear a singlet.

He didn't want to wear a singlet, so the compromise was he'd wear a Spiderman t-shirt underneath his Spiderman clothes so he was spidermaned out.

The sickest things to me are the Prosecutor's comments:
Prosecutor Brendan Queenan submitted that the extensive publicity surrounding this case had effectively punished Jones outside the court system.
“It is above and beyond what you might expect,” Mr Queenan told the court.

And the judge's comment:
Judge Flannery said in delivering the sentence that the child “fortunately seems to be getting better”.

:banghead:

Maybe the Spider-man pattern wasn't noticeable.

The 63-year-old whitegoods repairman is reported to have had the figurine in his work van on the day the then three-year-old went missing from his grandmother's Kendall home on the mid north coast of New South Wales in September.
When questioned about the doll, his wife Margaret told police it was gifted to him by a four-year-old child 'to keep him company when he was driving', according to the Daily Telegraph.

It might have been inside out and covered in slime.
But you have to wonder what colour it was and I guess maybe the age of the child it might have fitted.
I wonder when the plumber actually attended the home.....weeks or months later?

I don't understand how these people can look at themselves in the mirror defending these monsters.

T-shirt, if I don't know this is the half of a "costum" or "suit". :) If I had followed the news, then I probably would only have thought: S-p-i-d-e-r-m-a-n-O-u-t-f-i-t!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Now there is perhaps a clue! What's the number of Crime Stoppers???

Sorry quoting myself.
How many FACS/police investigations would have been taking place in the area???

No wonder it was a joint investigation from the get goes.
Just as BS said it was their turn to be investigated.... firstly by FACS in Dec and when by Roseann ????
imo
