Welcome KayCherry and thank you for joining us.

In regard to the picture of William you refer to, I contacted the local police near Kendall some time ago asking where this image originated from. I was told that my enquiry would be handed on to Strike Force Rosann. To cut a long story short I finally received a reply from the local police telling me that as it was handed onto to Strike Force Rosann they would not discuss it with the public and the local policeman could not give me any further information.

Thanks for the update regarding the photo, Makara.

Interesting you raised the topic of releasing information regarding children who go missing in foster care, bb. I have seen two news reports today where Hetty Johnston of Bravehearts has spoken out about the fact that information can't be released until after a child is found dead (as in the recent tragic case below):

http://m.brisbanetimes.com.au/queen...ster-kids-need-more-help-20151109-gkuk5a.html

'Foster Carers Queensland CEO Bryan Smith said foster carers hands were "tied then in terms of what the confidentiality provisions under the act tell us we're allowed to do - which is essentially nothing. We can't do anything".'

Yes I just saw the same...makes it very difficult for all involved.

I wonder why tony jones was a member of GAPA in the first place ? Was he caring for grandchildren of his own ?

I wonder if there was a Spiderman toy found in Spedding's van? I don't know if I can trust the media on that one...was this confirmed? If an article says "according to a source..." I'm inclined to think it's made up to sell papers/ get page views.

MS was quoted in MSM as saying that the Spiderman toy found in BS's van was given to him by a local child to keep BS company. The fact that MS has acknowledged and spoken about the toy gives credence to the fact that it was in BS's van.

A Spiderman toy was one of the items investigators seized from the car of Bill Spedding, the person of interest in the case of missing toddler William Tyrrell, who was wearing the superhero’s costume when he disappeared.

The 63-year-old whitegoods repairman is reported to have had the figurine in his work van on the day the then three-year-old went missing from his grandmother’s Kendall home on the mid north coast of New South Wales in September.

When questioned about the doll, his wife Margaret told police it was gifted to him by a four-year-old child ‘to keep him company when he was driving’, according to the Daily Telegraph.

I don't think it has ever been reported what his connection with GAPA was, other than he was a member. The details may not have been reported to protect innocent family members.

There was an interesting program on ABC2 last night regarding parolees and parole officers in the UK last night. One of the parolees out on licence had been convicted of child sexual assault charges. Police thought he was also a member of a paedophile ring. Although he was found with only one mobile phone containing images of him abusing his victim, he had been known to trade in mobile phones on ebay.

The reason I bring it up here is because a while ago we were discussing the pawn shop owned by one of the POIs and the possibility of 'hocked'/secondhand mobile phones being used for communication between the people who abducted William.

Sadly, there is another use for mobile phones. In the case above, they were thought to be used by members of the paedophile ring to record video/images of themselves abusing their victims and then selling/swapping the mobile phones, including the recorded images, with each other.

I will post a link to the program as soon as it is added to ABC iview.
____________

Sidebar: btw if anyone is interested, there is a program entitled 'The Paedophile Next Door' on ABC2 tonight at 21:30 AEDST.

I watched some of that and I watched the part you referred to before my painkillers kicked in. The information about the sharing of mobile phones was really interesting, it was a method I had not heard of before but I have heard of people getting caught by phone and computer repairers. I found it distressing that the man referred to one of his victims as his lover and that they were in love.

Louis Theroux has a great episode on molesters and paedophiles, too, I can't remember the name off the top of my head though.

Yes, I've seen the Louis Theroux program. It was about a specialised treatment facility/prison in California, if I remember correctly. It's probably on iview as well as it's been rerun on ABC2 lately. I think there was also one on when paedophiles were released into the community in the US. Maybe Louis again. Not sure.

One thing I do pray is that this isn't the case for William.

Thank you Bo, I have wondered from the beginning how exactly a Pawn Shop could fit into a paedophile ring and this explains it.

They sure are! You really wouldn't even think of doing something like that, would you?

She was lovely, bb.

Time for tonight's program is 21:18 AEDST. Be warned, it seems quite controversial in the views expressed regarding paedophiles and perspectives of prevention/treatment.

Quite frankly, when they mentioned the paedophile ring allegedly trading images by buying/selling/trading in mobile phones, I immediately felt a little ill before I thought about the pawn shop. How bloody cunning are these guys?

The program 'Out of Jail and On the Streets', where this was discussed, is now on iview:

I haven't read or heard anything re this since they seized the car :(. It's all too quiet. Hoping for a breakthrough soon.
Yes, way too quiet. And still nothing on if the other vehicles were located and seized.

There are so many unanswered questions surrounding William, krig. As each day passes without good news, I become more and more afraid that either we'll never know what became of him or, even worse, he is no longer with us. William is very much in my thoughts and I find it extremely frustrating that I can't seem to do anything to help. I know DI Jubelin and his team will be doing everything they can but hearing no news about William's case is just so disheartening. I just pray William will be home in time for Christmas.

Couldn't agree more. Every day when I see no news it saddens me even more. William has been gone far too long. It's time for him to go home to his family.

It was a fascinating documentary, and echoed sentiments of the sex crimes squad workers from a recent article that have been posted here by myself and others in previous threads.

Goes to show how many mental health experts too are now realizing that the key to stopping abuse is talking to and providing treatment to paedophiles, BEFORE they offend.

Clearly having paedophilic urges doesn't make someone a raving lunatic certain to offend; many so-called 'virtuous paedophiles' are dedicated to not acting on their urges and helping others like them. Many are not solely attracted to children, and so carry on otherwise normal relationships.

The problem with many (probably most) people's justifiable reaction to name-and-shame, berate, or even attack such people is that it drives them underground where they cannot be monitored by authorities or health professionals, and stress is well known to increase the likelihood of offenses being committed.

Generally we only hear or know about paedophiles AFTER they offend, but campaigns in Europe calling paedophiles to seek the help now being offered to them have been a resounding success, to the point that child welfare organizations endorse them.

At the end of the day, what's better? - insufficient punishment after the act is committed, or helping someone, possibly despite a justifiable aversion at first, to stop them offending in the first place?
