Australia needs to get a lot tougher monitoring and sentencing pedophiles there is no excuse for the government not to do so. There needs to be a sex offender register ASAP for a start. I don't mean to cause any offence to any of our Aussie members or guests it just makes my blood boil when countries not just Australia are not doing enough to protect innocent children.

Thank you for all the updates and discussion about William's case. It would be great if some kind of undercover operation could be done to infiltrate this group of individuals to possibly get info about William or other victims. Maybe it is too soon or suspicious for this to be an option at the moment.

Another red flag that hadn't really stood out to me before. Police believed the white sedan had been disposed of but it had been given to neighbours.

Operation commander Superintendent Paul Fehon said there was no indication that William had either been abducted or wandered into the bush.
There have been no scent traces, footprints, threads of clothing or sightings of cars or strangers in the area.

Of all the four cars mentioned being seen that day, not one person has come forward as the driver, or passenger, or even knowing who any of the cars belong to.
IMO the two parked on Benaroon drive especially are suspicious for not coming forward, you can't just forget being parked there, whereas the 4WD, maybe the driver didn't realize they were "speeding" how fast where they reportedly going & was it irratic driving, or just plain a bit over the speed limit.. & the u-turn car, maybe they took a wrong turn, never took notice of the street they turned down & have never made the connection, although both those scenarios seem unlikely, but you would 100% recall being parked on a street, in that position, with the other car described, even if you didn't know the street.
Does anyone know of any of the POI's cars match any of the other cars?

Exactly. It's a random, out-of-way dead end. Only residents or visitors would park there.

It's been all over the national news and even if the owners of the cars were visitors, they would've had a contact living in the street and heard about William that way.

What still gets me is that the media and police kept referring to the little boy who wandered into the bush, yet William's mother suspected abduction and had descriptions of cars from the very start. I feel like the public should've been told that William could be missing in the bush but to be aware that 2 suspicious cars were seen. I do recall a report in the first week saying that police were quizzing sex offenders, but it seemed to be played down.

I guess police have their reasons. Maybe it would have been dangerous to go about it that way. I still think of the dreadful look on Fehon's face every time he faced the media, already knowing what we now know.

I think it was because of the lack of evidence pointing either way, the five minute window & no one saw or heard anything (other than the cars the Mother reported later that night), wondering into the bush was probably what statistically made more sense.
I think most parents would say their child wouldn't wonder off, or just go with a stranger, the police wouldn't form an opinion on that, Daniel Morcombe's Mother was adiment her son would absolutely not get into a car with a stranger.
They said from the beginning that they were keeping an open mind as to what had happened to William, they did check all sex offenders in the area early on & the sex crimes squad was brought in within the first few days weren't they?
Fehon did have a dreadful look on his face didn't he, & the way he referred to William as young William, just made it more horrific I feel.

Back to the cars (sorry for the essay) I think our views are on par with that.. I wonder if that was AJ's car, just because forensics didn't find any trace, doesn't mean it wasn't there.

Disposing of the car to a neighbour hardly sounds like a bright idea. If the people behind this were that stupid then you would have to think they would have slipped up similarly in lots of other places also.

At 2.35pm detectives are dispatched from Port Macquarie and begin taking statements. One of them speaks to a colleague, Detective Senior Constable Vanessa Partridge, back at Port Macquarie late that afternoon; they are worried something more sinister may have taken place.

The biggest visible operation was the bush search (which would also have turned up evidence of someone having taken him - as opposed to him wandering off - via the bush), but by the sounds of things they were working all angles from the start, and the early involvement of the sex crimes unit (which surprised - and worried - many of us when it was first mentioned, quite early in the investigation, barely a week in if memory serves, and that's when it was reported not when it actually happened) confirms that to an extent.

and then it was reported three months later homicide detectives were leading the investigation......

In a major turn for the investigation, murder squad officers are now leading inquiries - meaning the case is no longer a missing persons investigation.

I also remember the article (several weeks after William disappeared) where one officer went back to the command base on the FIRST DAY and said to another officer that something hinky had happened. The other officer agreed.
And it was after just 4 days that we first saw reported in MSM that the sex squad had been brought in ..... to help 'cover all bases' ... and that all known sex offenders in the area were being located.

Agree...I believe they would have been concerned about abduction from the start. It would be vital to be on top of that in the first few hours I would think. While the ground search may have been all that was originally reported, I bet there was a lot going on in the background at the time.

"Pervert pianist", Derek Nichols of Laurieton, was probed over "his involvement" in William's disappearance and is serving a suspended sentence for possession of child abuse material.

He once lived a short walk from William's grandma's house (not sure how long ago.)

He sings in a local choir group and attends the Anglican church giving talks on spirituality and music.
