He’s already done so via SM. I’m thinking a U Tube video is not far off. I’ve got a feeling BS wants to shout his newly found innocence from the rooftops despite any other up coming allegations. Or maybe as evidence of his innocence for further cases

At the risk of being pedantic (sorry) ... the term 'not guilty' is what the term would be. Because I really cannot imagine two girls putting themselves through the rigor and stress of a historical child sex trial(s) if there wasn't good grounds and evidence for the prosecution of such charges.

I agree SA, i have a lot of admiration for the strength those girls displayed in facing that trial. They are obviously now devastated.

I understand SA that as far as the trial is concerned he may have been found ‘not guilty’ but he wants his family and friends to believe he’s ‘innocent’

And for what it’s worth I don’t believe he’s either

Interesting that the grandparents are preparing to seek custody of the girls. I wonder what happened to the dad who had prior custody. I guess we wont hear anything else now as it will all go into Family Court.

The helpline number at the bottom of the article ....

Damn, what a shame it was alleged not convicted used. I would hate to see BS gain financially because of one word.

Wouldn't you think that he would ashamed of those charges? Instead, he is inviting more publicity to them. Many children are sexually abused and the evidence is not there for who did it, for charges to be laid. If he was charged, there is good evidence. There are some stats somewhere that I have seen, that only 10% are ever charged and 3% are convicted. I suppose that he is banking on those stats.

So he has not been convicted yet or abusing those two little girls? He really needs to wait until he is found innocent on those charges before accusing anyone of defaming him.

We don’t know the outcome of the NSW trial and the Victorian proceedings are to be heard.

There is a huge difference eh Hbayne.

That’s a lesson for all of us to always post the link referring to the MSM article.

Seems like the longest period of silence from SFA. Hopefully they have no need for the public’s help. Tick tick ....
We all know how much this case does our heads in, I can’t imagine what it does to them.

Yep, hopefully no news is good news. It must be tough for DCI Jubelin and all of the members of SFR; especially as the victim is a child. Sending prayers for all x

Yep, one little word is all it takes. I suppose we’ll just have to wait for the outcome . . . as usual *sighs*

Yes some reporter has stuffed up there , you would think they would have legals looking over all of that - if that is what it is all about.

The error was pointed out to Daily Mail at the time and they did nothing to fix it. I think it was Makara who emailed them; or it might have been me. So it wasn't just a reporter's slip or a failure to proof-read.

The link has gone now, though. I just looked for it. It takes you to a "Sorry this link is wrong ... " message.

The thing is, in the legal argument, Spedding's lawyer has to prove that made people think less of him. It is not just if something printed is right or wrong.

Did that one word make people think less of him? Or did the whole POI in William's disappearance and being charged with historical child sex offences make people think less of him? Personally, I think the latter.

It would be interesting to know if that article was published prior to his son Rodney saying Spedding's business had dropped off.

ETA: The article was published 3rd Sep 2016 (thread 23, post #392). I think Rodney had stopped talking to the media way before then. He stopped in 2015, from what I can see in Google searches
.

A publication is defamatory of a plaintiff if it contains imputations that:

• have a tendency to lower the plaintiff’s estimation in the eyes of right-thinking members of the society generally; or
• were calculated to injure the reputation of the plaintiff by exposing him or her to hatred, contempt or ridicule;
• have the capacity and tend to put the plaintiff in the position of being shunned and avoided.
