I've seen this wording misconstrued by many people (not here on WS) and understandably so as it is not clear. It could be taken as all 20 people lived in the Benaroon Dr neighbourhood which is not correct at all. They live in the Kendall area which takes in towns and communities within half an hr drive of Kendall.

I guess it depends which article you want to take as giving the correct info. Whether it is in Kendall itself (population 1,200 people) or includes surrounding areas. The known sex offenders in the entire area could easily number more than 20, as horrible as that is to think about.

A Current Affair reported that about 20 registered sex offenders were living in the surrounding area of Kendall where Tyrrell went missing.

Kendall has a population of only about 1,200 ....

The thing that disturbs me is that every home was not able to be searched.

I think they'd need either permission or a warrant. They probably wouldn't get a warrant without reasonable grounds for suspicion with regard to the particular home-owner or the property. (IMO--not altogether sure.) And what about places where the resident was away, or thought to be away, when William disappeared--would they have been included in the initial search?

Absolutely, I agree. I imagine a fair few sex offenders view the police as their enemy and will not cooperate. For a variety of reasons. Whether that be so that offensive material is not discovered in their home, or they just want to be obstructive.

A warrant showing reasonable cause would be required to search those homes. imo

And what if one of those homes harboured signs of William? Photos ... "souvenirs" .... a spiderman suit or piece of clothing. That is what concerns me the most. It seems that some/many offenders like to keep a 'rememberance'. It could be a vital clue leading to a good break for the investigators ... for a change.

BBM: The info about homes not being able to be searched was published in January 2016. Long after William disappeared.

I’m about 1000 posts behind, but I’m wondering if anyone has recently seen/heard TV or radio advertisements publicising the million dollar reward? I was in Braidwood, NSW, last week and heard one (sorry can’t recall if it was TV or radio as it was too cold for my brain to remember). This town is also the only place I’ve ever seen the WT missing poster in a shop window (last year, or was it the year before).

I’m in QLD Richie and have not heard or seen any new media on the reward apart from going to the official website but certainly nothing on TV or radio.

Hopefully someone else in NSW can assist as it would be interesting to know how that was broadcast

I haven’t seen or heard an announcement about William where I live in NSW but my Mum lives in the Southern Tablelands and she told me she saw one on TV a couple of years ago. It’s interesting that region has been targeted a number of times, unless there is a family or other connection.

They probably wouldn't search the homes of school teachers who are on the register for having a relationship with a 16 year old student, or a 19 year old who a sexual relationship with a 15 year old.

Good point.
Let's hope that they were the only sex offenders homes that were not searched.

IMO that would be the case initially. I'm sure they would still be checked, although they would be at the bottom of the list after those that have more age appropriate tendencies.

Also, some of the 20 could have had water tight alibi's.

There was never any mention in MSM that I am aware of that TJ and PB's residences were searched which I find odd as DN's house was searched.

He was visited by NSW police who searched his home in 2015 due to his status as a registered sex offender living in the area.

It is terrible people won’t talk not even for a million dollars and they are ok with William’s loved ones feeling anguish 24/7.

So spedding has had his day in court again if we can go off the court lists ( RE his defamation case) nothing in the news at all

Harmony Bryant death at Bonny Hills among hundreds of unsolved cold cases to be reinvestigated by NSW Police

While not considered a cold case, the investigation into William Tyrrell, who went missing from his grandmother’s front yard at Kendall in September 2014 continues.

A $1 million reward still stands for information leading to the return or recovery of the boy who was three-years-old at the time of his abduction.

State Crime Commander, Assistant Commissioner Mal Lanyon, said recent re-engineering of the command was designed to enhance the capabilities of each of the squads.

Let's hope something comes of this.

As far as I can see, Hb, it may not be BS’ last day in the Supreme Court of NSW in his defamation suit against Nationwide News Pty Ltd as it was a Directions Hearing:

https://legalvision.com.au/directio...at-does-this-mean-and-what-do-i-need-to-know/

‘A Directions Hearing is a short court appearance in which a presiding Registrar or Judge will make orders about the direction or next steps of the dispute at hand. The first hearing is called a ‘first directions hearing’ and usually serves the purpose of alerting the parties to the commencement of a case and directs them to Alternative Dispute Resolution such as Mediation. Any subsequent hearings are known as ‘further directions hearings’, which may come about as a result of a failed mediation attempt or a failure by one or more of the parties to comply with directions of the court.’

‘The purpose of a directions hearing is so that the court and disputing parties can address any procedural matters before the matter goes to trial.’

‘The court can make a range of orders relevant to the proceedings, either by choice or upon request from a party to the proceedings, including:

  • A timetable setting out when each party needs to file and serve additional pleadings;
  • A timetable for the exchange of affidavit evidence and witness statements;
  • The making of admissions;
  • The filing of a list of documents and the subsequent provision of those documents to all other parties to the proceedings;
  • A timetable for the exchange of expert reports;
  • The use of telephone and video conferencing facilities;
  • The manner in which evidence is to be given (either by affidavit evidence or orally at the trial); and
  • A timetable for the filing and service of written submissions.’
So we may see another court listing depending on the outcome of the above.

Interesting that the tort against the Daily Mail Australia was not listed after the Arguments against it and Nationwide News Pty Ltd were heard.

I wonder if the complaint against the Daily Mail has now been nullified because they took down the link that said that Spedding (and Jones) was a convicted pedo.
It was gone when I looked a couple of weeks ago, but had been there up until then.

Wonder how BS went in court Friday ? Anyone able to find links to any upcoming appearances ?

I am not seeing anything on the schedule for the next three weeks, unless they haven't updated yet.

Perhaps it is all over? No defamation case to be heard or further steps to be taken.

I wonder where the $$ are coming from for this type of Supreme Court proceeding? I wouldn't think that it would be cheap, to have a lawyer's representation in this kind of matter. And if nothing comes of it .... no damages awarded ...... ?

It could be over and like AS v FACS, the judgement wasn't released until about a week after the hearing.
