A couple of us have been reading up on police investigation into crimes against children .....

Here is a transcript of an excerpt from a VERY long article in this weekend's Telegraph, Advertiser & Gold Coast Bulletin. (No breach of the copyright rule here on WS, there are pages and pages in this article - providing examples of various crimes against children, as well, and a basic outline of how they caught the offenders.)

“It’s impossible to prevent everything, that would be a perfect world. Rest assured that what does go through the system when it’s investigated, it is all stops out, it’s given absolute priority and I make no apologies about that.”
The little lives destroyed in these vicious attacks are difficult to investigate. The young victims are unable to speak up for themselves following brutal assaults.

“The hardest thing with this is, we are talking about little, little kids, day old, month old, year old children,” Supt Johnson said. “As investigators, we’ve got extremely gifted people, but there is a certain point where we can’t get a version of what has happened from a child, because they are too young, they can’t speak.

“These children can’t speak, some of these kids who are victims of grievous bodily harm might never speak. If they’ve been killed, they’re silenced forever.”

The investigation that follows can be time-consuming and exhaustive, often taking two years before an alleged offender will front a court.

“People often ask, a child was harmed or died two years ago, why are we only making arrests now,” Supt Johnson said. “We have to treat everything in a certain way, a thorough investigation right from the beginning, because if in 12 to 18 months time we find out that it wasn’t an accident, there’s foul play, we can’t go back in history and recreate an investigation.

“As much as it’s hard on families and other people as well, we have to be thorough and do an A grade job, because we don’t have the luxury to go back in time and do it again.

“When we collect our evidence for a deceased or seriously injured child, it has to be forensically examined.

“Some of these jobs take two, to two and a half years before they go to court. Sometimes with the nature of injuries, there are a lot of people who have access to a child, whether it’s daycare, medical, school, neighbours, uncles, aunties, whatever.

“We have to go through every one of those persons and that’s where the thoroughness of the investigation takes place.”

He said police officers become detectives because they have a calling to this type of work.

“You are in this game as an investigator for those bigger investigations, that’s what our calling is,” he said.

Is there a link SA?

There are links to the article, but I think people may need the actual newspaper to read it, unless they have an online subscription.

Here is the link from my state's online paper ..... but I see that it is in the Gold Coast Bulletin, and the Telegraph, too - for those from other states.

The article is attributed to Chris McMahon, Gold Coast Bulletin. It speaks of Qld cases and investigations.

Victorian police in pedophile rings: victims
Victorian police in pedophile rings: victoria

I've been looking into some old stuff as well and following Dr Michaelson's observations. Not sure when her and Hetty parted ways. I found it interesting with the information that Bravehearts had at the time, that the majority of business they have conducted since this time has been government contracts and acting as consultants. Call me cynical. Dr Michaelson's report after setting up her board has been eye opening as well.

I have verified that Dr Michaelson wrote the above account because of the site I found it on.

I have often wondered why pedos get a 'free ride' (imo) in our courts. I can understand that crimes against small children are hard to prove, the children cannot speak very well for themselves, but I sometimes think that there could be more to it than that.

I see articles like this, and I wonder how far we have come. Not far enough, by any stretch.

A Sydney judge has compared incest and paedophilia to homosexuality, saying the community may no longer see sexual contact between siblings and between adults and children as “unnatural” or “taboo”.
Judge compares incest and paedophilia to past attitudes towards homosexuality, claiming they might not be taboo anymore

A VICTORIAN magistrate who sexually assaulted two teenage brothers is officially quitting his post at the bench after confessing to the crimes in court today, it is believed.

Yes, it’s sad to see William’s case has come to this.

Let's see what the inquest brings. It sometimes takes years for the truth to come to light. For a spotlight to be concentrated on a perp(s) and those who know. For their lies to be revealed.
Family protecting their murderous loved ones, sickos flying under the radar, the gathering of enough circumstantial evidence - and the proving that other scenarios could not have happened - taking so much police time .....

We have seen this in case after case.

Wonder if he faced a penalty for breaching bail conditions. You'd think the police would be carefully watching the 5 POIs/suspects in this case.
Though it may be to police advantage to allow him/them to wander freely, and feel as though he/they are smarter than the police and getting away with everything ... until the hammer drops.

Interesting that the Vic police formed a strike force to further their investigations, as opposed to assigning just a detective or two. May say something about the scale of the operations.
He did face court for breaching bail

That’s true and an inquest is a long time in coming. I was heartened by DCI Jubelin’s comment that it will be here ‘sooner rather than later’, which means all lies will be exposed.

One that I know of who breached court orders was Bickford. We don't know a heck of a lot about him. And I wish we did. He makes me uncomfortable.

A CONVICTED paedophile questioned by detectives investigating the William Tyrrell disappearance on the state’s mid north coast will front court again this month after allegedly breaching his reporting conditions.

The Saturday Telegraph can reveal Paul John Bickford — the former president of grandparent support group GAPA (Grandparents As Parents Again) — allegedly breached court orders imposed on him over child sex offences around the same time he was photographed by this newspaper visiting his wife’s home in Port Macquarie on September 7.

Was this all recently or are talking about when WT actually went missing?

Your posts are intriguing...how many WSer's have quickly grabbed a pen and paper, to link all the cryptic clues together

I truly hope what you know is the key to the case and WT is found and his families can finally have the answers they all truly deserve
One year later....in Victoria .......takes time to work out who the bastards all were ..slowly they appeared on line and were recognised one by one.....every backside on every seat.

I am also still very uncomfortable with Spedding having a mattress in his "office". I thought of that yet again when we were recently talking about videos on the dark web.

How and who might produce such videos. Who might make money out of such a venture. Who apparently had $100,000 to ante up for bail, if required. (And yet was crying poor, due to loss of business and spoiled reputation.)

Until 2014, Bickford was the president of Grandparents as Parents Again (GAPA) ....
"Did I know William Spedding, which I didn't ( - Paul Bickford. My comment: do we believe him?)
Confusion over paedophile link

Detectives investigating the disappearance of William Tyrrell have examined two grandparent support groups, one of whose former members included two paedophiles, after looking into washing machine repairman Bill Spedding.
William Tyrrell investigation turns to grandparent support groups

The court heard Spedding and his wife Margaret have offered “their savings” of $100,000 in surety that the Crown says is “generous” but “insufficient to satisfy the bail concerns.”

A link for what you are saying about a govt grant ... so others can follow along with more clarity. :)

GAPA, which stands for Grandparents As Parents Again ..... The group received a $15,000 grant from the former Labor government under their ex-president’s tenure.
Paul Bickford, who stepped down as GAPA president for “family reasons” last year, is serving a 16-month suspended sentence for indecently assaulting an 11-year-old girl who suffers from Asperger’s syndrome during a drive to the shops to buy her lollies.
