Here you go @purpleandgreen - something directly related to William, which has been discussed but not much IMO. :)

In the recent search it was reported that the person (seen, or known to be down at Batar Rd, doing something) is a 'high risk person of interest'

quote "It is understood to relate to a high-risk person of interest living nearby"

Living nearby? This makes me wonder about BS, TJ, PB & DN. AFAIK, none of them live nearby? MOO. Of course i don't know where they live.

who's this 5th person? I guess we won't know unless an arrest is made, or an inquest is held.

Makes me think about a possible relative of one of these poi’s that may or may not live in Benaroon drive , IMO

Personally, I couldn’t be happier if I don’t hear any more about BS until he appears in front of a magistrate in either (or both) the Coroner’s Court or in a criminal trial.

The thing about the high risk "nearby" person of interest is how close is nearby?

Some of us may think that nearby is very nearby, as in living adjacent to the relevant search area. Others may think that nearby means within the entire general area, not in Sydney or North Ryde or somewhere further away.

It is difficult to even speculate who this person may be. Is it a POI that we already know about, or another person?

Though I wonder if the police held off on searching that area because they were watching the high risk person to see if they returned to this particular search area, as perpetrators are sometimes known to do.

I wonder if the locals are aware of a high risk person living in their area? I hope so, for the sake of their children.

It is understood to relate to a high-risk person of interest living nearby, and was discovered before the 50-strong delegation of Riot Squad officers began the mammoth task of forensically searching the three-square-kilometre area of dense bushland.

Detective Chief Inspector Gary Jubelin said police had not searched the area until now because of "operational reasons and considerations".
"We've determined now is the best time to search. The reason why we're searching this very specific area of bushland is a result of information we've uncovered during the course of the investigation," he added.

The thing is, the more that discussion is held about Spedding, Jones, Bickford, Nichols, on this and other forums and SM, the more their names will appear in recent Google history. While most/all of them may be distasteful people, it is not a bad thing (imo) for the public to stumble across the prosecutions and/or allegations against them.

With no public child sex offender registry in this country there are not many ways that the public can be alerted to the risks involved with their children being in the vicinity of at least the previously convicted persons, and also possibly the person who has allegations against him.

I believe that this may be the reason why police have allowed the media to name them. To try to keep the children safe.

BBM, & JMO, but if BS had of been found guilty in the first Trial of the charges he was accused of and arrested for at the time, he would of been due for sentencing, if he was in fact found guilty. I don't think he would of walked away a free man, and would of been back in prison.
And also considering the VIC. charges were dismissed, i think maybe because the prosecution thought that it would not have much chance of conviction either.
It could of been for another reason that case was dismissed, but can't think of why they would do that otherwise? Maybe unavailable witnesses etc.?

BBM - Just pointing out that charges were not "dismissed" they were withdrawn. Big difference.

A Judge has the right to dismiss when hearing the case. The Prosecutors withdrew the charges prior to a hearing/trial.

He can be charged again if the Prosecutor so decides.

Ok. thanks for clarifying. Do you know why prosecutors withdrew the charges? I don't know under what circumstances in Australia they would do that?
And if BS was acquitted in the NSW case/trial, what happens there with those charges then?

Could be many reasons.Too traumatic for the girls maybe. If he was acquitted and that’s a big if of the 1st trial then I would say it’s done and dusted and he has been lucky enough to get away with it. iMOO. Or alternatively he wasn’t acquitted and is paying his penance and that may have been enough for the girls involved in 2nd trial.
Or if first trial acquitted him then the ones involved in the second one may have felt disparaged to go ahead with the historical allegations .

I have no idea why they withdrew the charges, I only know what was reported. There would be many circumstances to withdraw.

It hasn't been reported what happened to NSW charges, nobody knows if he was acquitted, if they were withdrawn or whatever. I'm sure one day we will hear what happened, until then.........................we all wonder.

If Spedding has been found guilty of the NSW charges, or settled on some kind of plea deal, the girls may have thought that was enough for them.
They may have been satisfied with the outcome, and felt they had been through enough trauma and interrogation on the stand ... did not want to proceed any further.

Or the charges may have been withdrawn pending further and ongoing investigation. There is a strike force that was formed to investigate the Victorian matters ... perhaps the investigation has blown up to be bigger than Ben Hur. More incidents and adults/children involved than originally thought.

The police/prosecutor cannot just hang on to a person who has been charged. Everyone has a right to a 'speedy trial'. Charge them and try them, or withdraw the charges and re-charge them later when fully ready.

The right to be tried without unreasonable delay is recognised as a human right under the Victorian and ACT human rights legislation.

Yes no one knows anything much about BS trial in NSW and the outcome of it.
If he had been found guilty in that trial of molesting those children i wouldn't think he would have a case for defamation against the media though, because what they would of written about him being a convicted paedophile would be a moot point in that case, and thus litigation would have to be dropped IMO.

Yeah it's anyone's guess really, when we just don't know about any of it.

I don't think the outcome of the NSW trial had anything to do with his defamation case against the Media.

The fact that they indicated that he was a convicted Paedophile way before any outcome of his case is an entirely different matter.

If he had been found guilty in his NSW trial, he still wasn't a convicted Paedophile when the comment was printed.

That’s right , the withdrawal of the charges could just be for now..... they certainly would hold a lot more weight in the future if the perpetrator is found guilty to a much more heinous crime than already allegedly committed .

Totally different cases. The defamation case is against media in regards to William, AFAIK not to the historical allegations.

Wouldn't that be double jeopardy though if he was acquitted in the first trial of the charges that involved the same children between two different states?
Or did it involve different children?
