Yes it hard to fathom someone with so much experience would jeopardise his career. But he does deny allegations .

I think Jubes was very much focused on the case, perhaps to his own detriment.

But as I posted before (post 939) .... illegal recordings are sometimes allowed in court. Depending on the judges discretion and the weight applied to the illegal recordings. I think we should all try to remember that. There may have been decent motivation behind his actions.

Jubes is not a bad person. He has never abducted a child, or murdered, or raped ... or done any of the other things that the scum do. In fact, he has done very, very, very much good throughout his career. Has always tried hard for the NSW public.

Let's not throw him to the wolves now (not directed at you, greg, just want us all to keep it in perspective until we hear the circumstances).

High profile detective in William Tyrrell case will be charged with 3 counts of illegally recording with a listening device. Brief 30 secs - maybe even 15 or 10 secs - on Ch9 morning news just now.

In a statement to the media, Mr Jubelin's lawyer said the former detective will "strongly defend" the charges.

"[He] is confident that these matters will shortly be resolved in his favour," Margaret Cunneen SC said.

Before announcing his resignation, the former detective had been confined to desk duties while the professional standards probe took place.

A source said he had only been performing basic duties to obtain information from a suspect and was due to finish work next month.

The source said Mr Jubelin, who returned from a holiday in Europe on Wednesday, had also been listed on an internal NSW Police "wanted list".

"He doesn't even know if he has been suspended from duty," she said.

Veteran homicide detective Gary Jubelin has been charged with illegally recording conversations less than a month out from his retirement.

Police on Friday served Detective Chief Inspector Jubelin, 57, with a court attendance notice for the breach of the Surveillance Devices Act following a lengthy internal investigation that saw him sidelined from the high-profile William Tyrrell investigation.

The offence carries a maximum of five years jail or a $110,000 fine.

NSW Police issued the following statement: “A Detective Chief Inspector from a specialist command has been charged with four offences under the Surveillance Devices Act.

Insp Jubelin’s barrister, Margaret Cunneen SC, said her client denied any wrongdoing whatsoever and would strongly defend the charges.
“It is understood the charges are to be preferred under the Surveillance Devices Act and relate to recordings made during the execution of Detective Chief Inspector Jubelin’s duties,” she said in a statement.

“Detective Chief Inspector Jubelin is confident that these matters will shortly be resolved in his favour.”

It also says they debated for weeks over whether to charge Jubes with the minor offence.

I did not mean who it was he is said to have recorded.
I meant what suspect was he obtaining information from while on basic desk duties.
