(quote)
It was the manner in which two cars were parked that brought them to the attention of police.

One of the parked cars is described as a dark-grey, old-model, medium-size sedan.

The other is described as an old white station wagon.

Both cars were parked behind each other on the roadway between the driveways of two adjacent properties opposite the location from which William disappeared.

The female foster carer gave a statement to police on September 14, 2014 that “does not make any reference to sighting vehicles”, the inquest heard.

But on a filmed “walk-through” four days later, she recalled seeing two cars, one grey and one white with “dark tinted windows”.

It would seem it was before the day 4 walk through.

Unusually, the foster father was videoed on a “walk-through” at the crime scene in the New South Wales town of Kendall but was not sat down to give a statement until September 18, 2014, six days later.

Man saw child in car wearing Spider-Man suit, Tyrrell inquest hears

I think that as FD was not there when William went missing - and that was proved by online/telecomms/data/chemist records - his statement would have been less important to get right away.

IIRC correctly, his walkthrough was primarily about where he had searched and if he saw anyone else while he was searching. (UBM important, I think - was anyone returning from anywhere out in the bush?)

No mention of where the MFC was when she awoke?

I agree. The focus in the early days was finding a little boy lost.

I don't recall seeing that.

How were they identified?
The exact cars have never been identified by the Police... only a description of them by the FM and an identikit image that was in the newspapers ..
Beaucroft said at the inquest they had never been able to find them ..
IMO

Yes exactly. The FFC's story of the cars couldn't be corroborated. And that begs the question i wonder if any of the vehicles she or anyone else has mentioned and their owners from police investigating all of it were ever verified?
And IMO any such evidence is probably lost because nothing seems to have checked out in regard to what anyone in this case has witnessed with any vehicle sightings. Not that we are aware of anyway?
Apart from any of that what other evidence is there, because of the fact this was not treated as a crime scene right from the get go at FGM's house. No blaming anyone, but from other missing child cases i have followed this one is very different in comparison to how it has been handled.

The police should have got statements from ALL of the family members on the day that William disappeared.

There is an interesting discussion on this subject with a Memory Expert in the Nowhere Child Podcast ... by Caroline Overington - episode 4 from memory...,

Nowhere Child

The delayed memory from the FM appears to have occurred frequently in this case.

And then of course with the scream. In the 60 Minutes interview, the FM said that everything was strangely quiet after William disappeared. You couldn't even hear the birds. And then at the last inquest she recalled having heard a scream...

Perhaps you could put that recommendation to them. I'm sure they'd appreciate the extra help. IMO.

Didn't she hear the scream when she was out searching?
I interpreted her comment that everything was strangely quiet as more immediate. As meaning she could not hear William.

Geez, how about giving the FFC a break?? You've made your view on her loud & clear

I hope that you are never in the situation that she was in & have every minute second pulled apart over & over.

I am wondering what has bought you here 5 yrs later .............you seem to have followed the case from the beginning??

Empathy is a great quality to have ;)

I'm just surprised that she made no mention of it in any of her media interviews, as it's quite a pertinent memory, don't you think?

Maybe she did and it is on the cutting room floor. :)

Yep & it was mentioned at the inquest as a fleeting memory/ thought of hers , the media ran with it as if she had heard a child screaming ...................

Mr Craddock : " You say you thought you heard something like a scream when a child hurts themselves, quick, high pitched & sharp, came from direction of reeds"

FFC : " I thought I can't see any red, maybe I imagined it , maybe it was a bird & I walked back"
