The case of former detective Gary Jubelin has heard a person of interest in the William Tyrrell investigation, Paul Savage, was the subject of an AVO for stalking a mail delivery woman.

Mr Savage lived close to the Kendall home where William vanished. In September 2012 he followed the woman on her mail route and said: "I couldn't let you leave the country without seeing you, your husband is a lucky man, I will miss you."

In the video Mr Savage, who has never been charged over the Tyrrell case, becomes agitated and dismisses the AVO matter as "crap", "🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬" and "rubbish". "I'm not a nutter, and I know the truth, and most of that is just pure rubbish."

He later admitted breaching the terms of the AVO by approaching the woman in early 2014 to wish her a happy birthday. In the interview, Mr Savage told then-det Jubelin he knew her date of birth from the AVO papers.

In a separate incident, he grabbed her hand and told her: "I want to spend more time with you, we don't get enough time together".

Mr Jubelin tells Mr Savage his version of the AVO is cause for concern because it "gives me an indication on whether you're prepared to lie", which could mean he's lying about his movements on the day William vanished.

Gary Jubelin’s criminal hearing is being shown a recorded interview with Paul Savage where Jubelin asks him about “making a pest of himself” around William Tyrrell’s foster grandmother. Jubelin claims she asked him, through his wife, to stay away from her.
@10NewsFirst

Jubelin tells Savage “you’ve been asked to stay away from the house where the child was abducted”.

Savage tells him “I have not in any way, shape or form set out to deliberately upset anybody.... I would’ve done anything to help this family when they lost that little one”.

Jubelin puts to Savage “Heather (Savage’s wife) might’ve run over William and you’re covering up for Heather... I don’t know”. Savage denies that.

The Crown is now questioning Detective Sergeant Laura Beacroft about the local postal worker. He asks her about an AVO taken out by her against Paul Savage. We previously reported these details on
@10NewsFirst
back in September.

The court heard Savage breached the AVO by wishing the woman a happy birthday when he was not supposed to be approaching her. The court is now being shown the recorded interview where Jubelin questions Savage about this. He describes it as “stalking”.

Jubelin tells Savage the postal worker reported on one occasion Savage “approached her vehicle and took hold of her arm, saying I want to spend more time with you” and said he was crying and shaking at the time. Savage denies it, but claims she was in love with him.

Jubelin accuses him of being “delusional”.

Jubelin puts to him that on two occasions he visited the Kendall Post Office “crying and shaking” and asking for the woman. Jubelin says others witnessed it and heard Savage say “we can be together”. He was married at the time.

Mr Savage admits to breaching the AVO by approaching her to say happy birthday. He tells Jubelin “I knew it was her birthday because it was on the AVO when her birthday was”.

Wow that's creepy... he even claimed she loved him... that's how I read it.

Does sound delusional. But he can be delusional without being ill, if he has a personality disorder MOO. I think that's the way it works. I wonder if he's had a psych assessment?

Just plain weird

Jubelin is questioning Paul Savage about the Spider-Man suit placed in the bush for him to find. Jubelin accuses him of waiting a day to report finding the suit. Savage says “I didn’t see it the day before. I would’ve reported it”.

Jubelin says “why are you lying about when you saw the Spider-Man suit?” And savage responds “I’m not lying. I went straight home and called police. That is the first time I’ve seen that suit”.

Jubelin raises his voice, saying “I know you saw it the day before. Tell us why you’re lying about that”. Savage says “I’m telling you the truth”.

Fingerprints though? If that is accurate reporting...why would they be fingerprinting the car? For William's fingerprints? Unlikely. Or someone elses? Presumably PS and HS's fingerprints would be there anyway.
William's fingerprints might have been still there--if he'd been in the car. A small child touches different places from an adult; when standing on the back seat, for instance. Or if he was imprisoned in the boot, perhaps pressing on its ceiling.

Jubelin asks Savage “was (William) making a noise that was annoying you while you were waiting for (the postal worker) to come?”. Savage says no.

The Crown pauses the tape and asked Det Sgt Beacroft about the Spider-Man suit. She tells the court surveillance operatives in the bush filmed Savage stop “five to eight metres” from the suit for about 12 seconds the day before he reported it to police.

I would imagine that anyone's prints *other* than W, would be rather meaningless?

Downing Centre Local Court was played a recorded police interview between the two in August 2017, in which then-detective Jubelin grilled him about his AVO matter.

Mr Savage's AVO was taken out by a woman from a post office on the Mid-North Coast, who claimed he followed her on her mail route in September 2012.

Mr Jubelin put it to Mr Savage that, on a separate occasion, he grabbed the woman's hand and told her: "I want to spend more time with you, we don't get enough time together."

"Throw that in the bin because that's a pack of rubbish," Mr Savage replied.

"My position is, so we're clear, I believe you're lying in regards to your version of events," Mr Jubelin said.

"If you want me to admit to that, then I'd be lying to you and I'm not going to lie to that for your ego, (or) anybody else's ego," he replied.

BBM : PS may come across to some as an aged , frail, grieving & forgetful widow.

IMO he is anything but. He is rat cunning & plays his cards well ;)

Just from what I observed of him in Taree over 3-4 days.

There is a reason why Jubes ( & Laura ) are interested in him IMO

See, I find PS's denial completely plausible here. That's the way I walk, inside my thoughts, stopping and starting, half the time not seeing what's in front of me. But police are observational types; they think that if you're looking towards a thing, particularly if your movement is interrupted, then you're seeing it.

The court is now being shown still images taken from the surveillance video of Savage in the bush, near where the Spider-Man suit was placed.

Agree. Remembering someone's birthdate from an AVO and then wishing them a happy birthday is more than just creepy. It's calculating to me.
