Cunneen told the court Jubelin was a detective “with a totally unblemished record as a police officer” who recorded the conversations “in the dogged, determined and professional exercise of his duty”.

Cunneen told the court “if the listening devices had failed, the only record of the conversations... would be the ones that Mr Jubelin made on his telephone and that would be his only defence from accusations... which Mr Savage had already made”.

Cunneen told the court “this was a particular strategy in a very difficult case, which it seems was mismanaged from its inception... There was not an investigation plan until Mr Jubelin came into it”.

If there is no corroborating evidence how can such testimony be accepted in Court? That is what I do not understand. And I really don't understand what the relevance is to the Trial of allegations.

The testimony IS the evidence. There are two types of evidence ... direct and circumstantial. The only direct evidence is eye witness testimony. ALL other evidence, including forensic evidence, is considered circumstantial.

Cunneen told the court it was “unfortunate” Jubelin had been called a liar by the prosecution, saying “he has been very frank... he has not lied about anything”.

I wonder if Scott is here on websleuths incognito.
Nah, lol, but a couple in PS's corner for whatever reasons.
This is about Jubelin and the whys and the wherefores of his actions in the course of the investigation. Uncovering a poi's unsavoury habits is bound to ruffle feathers, imo.

Can't be stressed enough how true this is!

Cunneen told the court Supt Cook’s approach to the Tyrrell case “set Mr Jubelin up as a problem” because “his dedication was such that he would not readily give up an investigation”. Saying “that may be the basis for what is really an extraordinary prosecution”.

Cunneen told the court “this is not the prosecution of a dishonest man or a liar, it’s the prosecution of a fine servant of our state over many, many years with many successes on his record”.

What I wouldn't give to see Cunneen in action right now.

On interviewing Savage, Cunneen told the court Jubelin did it in a “robust fashion” and “if that’s not to be the way Homicide detectives do things in the future, it can hardly be expected that the Homicide clearance rate will be enhanced”.
