Amy reported to Crimestoppers on 7th September 2017.

Every witness called has come forward before the inquest.

The Coroner is working through the police brief provided to her by the Task Force. Contained within the police brief are the statements taken by police investigators.
Sorry Blues just to confirm Amy is the babysitter? Their is a report by Caroline Overington that mentions Williams song being played by the girl who visited that day back in 2018. So if Amy was the nanny and the nanny didn’t find out this information about William until 2018 how did she report it to police in 2017? I’m confused sorry

Amy was caring for the boys. Tanya is Amy's daughter and she is a young adult. Tanya wasn't visiting.

Ok well there seems to be a conflicting report by Overington that states “while visiting the family where the 2 boys lived back in 2018 she played a song which the boys referred to as Williams song. One of the boys then went on to tell the girl he new who killed William. The girl later told her mum who then informed the police.” So is it confirmed anywhere that the report to police was made September 2017?

Christ74 the media misreport, they shouldn't but they do. I could give you other examples of misreporting but it's not worth wasting time on.

What I have given you is the date and details as read from a police statement by CA Craddock at the inquest. I haven't looked elsewhere for it.

Nine News also reports the year as 2018

A female given the pseudonym Tanya told the court two boys were sitting with her in a bedroom when one made a startling claim in 2018, four years after William went missing.

The conversation allegedly took place in 2018, four years after William disappeared from Benaroon Drive at Kendall.

And there is the Sydney Morning Herald that reports the incident occurring in 2017....

During the discussion in September 2017 - three years after William vanished while playing at his foster-grandmother's home in Kendall on the NSW Mid North Coast - Jeffrey's older brother, Matthew, became cross about discussing the buried suitcase.

She relayed the story to her mother a day or two later, prompting a call to Crime Stoppers.

Tanya's mother, who was temporarily caring for the boys in September 2017, described Jeffrey as the brother who did most of the talking.

So perhaps this version is correct?? As it lines up with the statement from someone who attended the inquest....
Apologies for the other incorrect versions printed ......

A prime example of bad journalism.... and why solely relying on MSM can be fraught with errors ...and why we need people at the inquest.......

September 2017... this conversation reportedly took place...

Then in June 2018, I believe it was when the 'forensic search' was done around Benaroon Drive and other nearby areas.. when the coroner visited the search site, and there was talk of the case going to inquest... at the time, IIRC, GJ said the forensic search was not initiated by 'new' evidence, but rather, by something police had already known about.. and that it was 'strategic' as to when things were done. Etc. Could it be that this disclosure reported to Crimestoppers in September 2017 wasn't given much weight at the time, but was reconsidered later?

The William Tyrrell inquest has resumed this morning in Taree, with several of his family members, both birth family and foster family, in the court room. Danny Connell is in the witness box, his wife is Ron Chapman’s niece.

He and his wife arrived in Kendall from Sydney on September 11, 2014, to babysit their grandchildren while their parents attended a wedding that weekend. They stayed at Ron Chapman’s house. To recap, Chapman is the man who claims to have seen William in a car after he vanished.

The court heard Mr Connell and his wife visited the local cemetery on the morning of September 12 to place flowers on a relative’s gravesite. They seem to be unclear of the exact time, but the court heard it was likely between 9.30am and 10.30am.

The cemetery is located next to Benaroon Drive, a short walk through the bush from William’s foster grandmother’s. The court was told Mr Connell heard a noise while they were there, saying it sounded like “something doing building work in the distance... I could hear a saw”.

Mr Connell told the court he drove to the “paper shop” in Kendall to get the paper after leaving the cemetery, when he saw an old white ute drive past as he crossed the road. He said the ute then “made contact” with the “keep left sign” as it drove down the hill.

He told the court the ute had “an old metal toolbox” in the back with the “corners bent up” and the driver was old with “thick-rimmed glasses” on. Mr Connell said he was in Coffs Harbour a week later when he remembered it in the middle of the night and called Crime Stoppers.

Mr Connell told the court they spent most of the day driving around the area visiting relatives before arriving back at Chapman’s house around 3.30pm, when they were told a little boy was missing. He said he doesn’t recall if he spoke to Mr Chapman about it at that point.

Mr Connell told the court they went to the Kendall Club for dinner that night, which was “empty for a Friday night”. Many people were still out searching for William that evening. He said they noticed people were still out with torches when they arrived home around 8pm.

Mr Connell told the court it was a year later, when they visited in September 2015, that Mr Chapman first mentioned the alleged sighting to them. He said “he was in quite a distressed state because he’d been interviewed” by police.

Mr Connell told the court Mr Chapman had “forgotten we were there at that time, 12 months before”. He was asked if they spoke about it at all with Mr Chapman that night in 2014 when the searchers were out looking for William and he said they only acknowledged the search party.

Mr Connell told the court Chapman “had a couple of schooners” that night and was “unsteady on his feet” so they took him inside and went to bed. He said he never mentioned the sighting until their visit a year later.

Was it TJ who borrowed a saw?

You'd think if there was a search party out, that he would mention it there & then - that night - about what he saw that morning? Seems odd... IMO. Or perhaps, at that stage there wasn't a mention, or knowledge (within his family group) - that the missing toddler was wearing a spider man suit - so he might not have raised it at the time, but you'd think he would raise it with someone when he did hear about the suit, which would have been within days? MOO

Mr Connell’s wife Kathleen is now in the witness box. Ron Chapman is her uncle. She is also recalling their movements on September 12, 2014. She recalls the “old ute” which hit the sign that morning being driven by a man in a “cowboy hat”.

From memory it was some sort of chain device...... not a chainsaw.... AFAIK ....
Hope this helps....
