Just want to discuss, is obtaining a autopsy report of a case easy to obtain? like you will contact the medical examiner to obtain it. I am currently doing this myself for a case I'm interested in.

I read that in most U.S States autopsy reports are public and anyone can obtain them.

Does the medical examiner keep very old autopsy reports still on file? like the one I'm trying to find is from 1961.

Has anyone obtained a autopsy report of a murder case? what are your experiences in obtaining it?

This is a bit late, so I’m hoping you are still following... different states and even some counties have different policies regarding the release of autopsies and/reports. Your best bet is to contact the coroner or State Medical Examiner’s office where the examination would have been performed. Sometimes only family members are allowed to obtain the report, you may have to pay a small fee, some will be highly redacted and some (especially older ones) may not be available. It’s been a hit or miss in my experience. Check the agency’s website for instruction or there is a site that states the general policies per State! Hope this is of some help! If you are unable to find anything, don’t hesitate to ask, I’ll be glad to help any way I can! Best of luck! •MMcG•
