On Wednesday, January 7, 2015, Alan “AJ” Hoover Jr. was shot and killed at a residence in the area of 2300 East Shaw Butte Drive in Phoenix. The Phoenix Police Department is requesting assistance in identifying the shooter and the subjects present during the incident.

Phoenix police said back then that the circumstances of how the teenager was shot wasn't entirely clear. It's believed that there were multiple teens in the room when the shooting occurred.
A year after her brother's murder, Lauren Hoover is still searching for answers.
"We just kind of expected to have answers by now so the last half of the year has been a lot harder than the first year," said Lauren.
Lauren was working in St. Louis when she got the phone call from her dad.
"I just always remember his smile. He had this big toothy grin," said Hoover.
Lauren says the family has taken A.J.'s death very hard. Hoover's father took his life after a battle with depression.
"I want this person to realize that if they hadn't killed my brother my dad would still be alive too," said Lauren.
