will continue to catch up next week, just some thoughts I have pondered, in defense opening he was very disparaging and critical of April the defendants ex partner, I thought this was a big misstep as he kept going on about what he saw as all her faults, and if I was on the jury I would have taken notice of that, as the defense attorney was relaying what the defendant had told him about April and would be thinking well if that's how he speaks about a woman he once loved and had a child with, maybe his attitude towards women isn't that great,

Wow. I agree that is not a good look for the defendant. And what's the point?

April has testified about him being out of the house the night of the murder, and she doesn't know what time he returned, she has said he enjoyed strangling during sex and AF was strangled to death, she talked about his drinking and his secretive behaviour, she kept notes on her phone about his behaviors, so she has it all documented, when the murder happened they were sleeping in separate rooms and not having sex, so she is a good witness for state as she gives jury a good picture of his life at the time of the murder

the defense then has to make her out to be controlling, and that she made all these notes on her phone for a future custody battle over there child, they need to make her less sympathetic to the jury and less believable

I think it will backfire as he is accused of murdering and sexually abusing a woman, bashing and demeaning another woman won't endear him to the jury IMO

Well done, April. I agree this will not help him at all.

porch light went on about 9pm, detectives think this is when he approached her house, and entered, front door opens and closes about 12pm twice, porch light goes off, so this is likely the time frame of the attack and murder, her door alarm on front door records when door opens and closes, the back door does not record times, he entered via back door into her home,

3.57 afternoon 18th, Alex arrived at her home to find her body, the attack was 17th into the 18th, he is seen on camera, plus her door alarm records his time entry into house

I mistyped when I posted the laundry basket went missing, it was moved from on top of washing machine to on top of luggage, still within laundry room

lots of beer bottles were in a cooler in her garden, left over from a party, state alleges one of these was used to sexually assault AF,

blood stains on couch, on side and back of couch, they also did testing to see if blood had been cleaned up in areas in home, used blue star (blood detection reagent, luminesces bright blue when reacting with blood), spray blue star to check if blood is there but not visible, such as cleaned up blood,

blue star may produce false positive to bleach or cleaning agents, but bleach reaction is less strong and doesn't last as long as reaction to blood

  • #850
pool deck area, towards sliding door blue star luminesce reaction to blood, broken tile area luminesce to blood that was visible to naked eye, the tile was found in pool with some of AF hair attached to it, loads of luminesce outside arcadia sliding door, , huge amounts of luminescent in hallway of home, revealing possibly lots of blood, *there was lots of bleach/cleaning products in scene so defense will possibly argue its that) visible blood on couch blue star luminesces lots of blue revealing a lot of blood there

crime scene used blue star on visible blood, the blue star revealed more blood was there just not visible to naked eye

  • #851
BCU scene detective from day1 on scene, luminesce is obvious to naked eye when it luminesces, photos don't often show the intensity of the luminescence, the area around her home going towards sliding door going outside reveals lots of blood,

looks like areas had been attempted to clean up, couch revealed luminescence more than the visible reddish brown stains that CSS thought was blood, back of couch luminesce

huge amount of blood in hallway where her body was found visible to naked eye, impact stain was found on air vent, blood visible, and it luminesced, kitchen luminesced with lots of blue on kitchen floor, visible blood in kitchen,

no bottles of bleach found in home, blood found near arcadia door, pillar center of house, where AF found, and outside

drawing from css shows a path leading from inside house to outside via sliding glass door in blood, then she must have got back into house and was found in hall way

cross - BCU agent, 18-21 on scene, autopsy 19th present, 26 items/swabs collected on day 1, booties, rubber gloves worn, wrote report, no broken windows, no forced entry, strong odor, chlorine or bleach in house, blood on floor, diluted blood on floor, something poured over AF is his opinion, showing black dress found on AF to jury, it was wet at scene of crime, white spots, marks on dress, AF seen on Walmart and Coles video in that dress, wipes, swipes on scene, broken glass throughout house,
fingernail- tip broken off seen at autopsy, French manicure, AF kept her nails nicer, family said she kept her nails nice, right ring finger (possibly left - atty and witness didn't agree on which finger) fingernail recently torn off in the witness opinion, found several feel away from AF under dining room table,

near sliding glass door was a mirror, dust on it on top and on glass, 3 pairs of shoes/slippers in vicinity, floor of home processed on 19th, he was at autopsy, white streaks, chalky material on floor, brownish sticky material spilled on floor, don't know what it was, PMH different stain on floor, darker brown with flecks in, didn't appear to be glass, first supposition thought it was chewing tobacco, stain was swabbed first night, PM50 was photo of it, submitted to lab swab, Kastle Meyer, Hema Trace, tests done,
I thought it wasn't blood, never learned what this swab was

going over process for items to be tested at lab, February 2015, PMH an important sample for week one, DNA developed from this sample, looked at everybody they thought might be the match to this DNA, getting buccal swabs from every male they found had a relation or knew AF, trash bag from her home, defense is focused on this, CSS on scene saw nothing of evidential value in trash or recycling except for pizza box, so took the label off pizza box to check it out, trash in alley, community trash, didn't collect community trash as it had been collected on the 18th in the morning, so it was either empty or mostly empty, watches, 3 missing, Chanel bag wasn't taken, she had nice bags in closet, belly button liquid sent to DPS lab, no results, PMH only tested for blood, wasn't tested for tobacco,

Blue Star highly sensitive, first time he had used blue star, used his own blood to do a test to see how Blue Star worked in master bathroom, CSS thought master bathroom wasn't part of crime scene so did testing in there to see how it reacts,
blue star does not destroy DNA, broken bottle collected from under couch,

going over vans type partial shoe print, the pharmacist had van shoes,

blood stain pattern analysis, Bevel Gardner analysis course he took in 2019, (I think much of blood pattern analysis isn't scientific) not an exact science according to defense atty (and I agree) it's interpretation much of the time not science IMO, and I can hear the skepticism in defense attys voice and I agree. He is testifying about blood pattern analysis from the scene from his memory and photos years after he processed scene,. as he took the course year after the scene was processed in 2019, and in 2019 he knew all the lab results so his analysis is not clean, as it is tarnished by him knowing what was blood or not blood from the lab tests.

backyard tile in pool, two broken tiles, do not know when broken off, one broken tile part luminesces, chlorine can false positive Blue Star, no report about finding the bottle, tip or lead you follow up, got buccal swab off most males, 170 males looked at, no DNA match to PMH swab, once no DNA match and interview done they were cleared

defense keep going on about tools LE uses, they are trying to dilute the DNA down to being just a tool, and even if it matches or doesn't match you must investigate further as relying solely on the DNA is not the be all and end all, but only unknown male DNA found in home was defendants, and he denies ever knowing AF or being in her home, so difficult to get over that hurdle

  • #856
Recross, mat, broken tile, earing in pool, wet dress on her face, (was she in pool at one point, or partially in pool, I wonder) showing picture of liquid in navel, nails broken off shown to jurors, (left hand 3rd digit, 4th finger chip in nail)
not all tools created equal, DNA is more discerning in identifying a person, DNA pointed you to unknown male, Feb 25th 2015, DNA, not just one sample of unknown male DNA, we focused on finding him,

I love a respectful informative trial, the jury is getting the full picture, even LE are not on the defensive and I find they often are, going over vans shoes, multiple brands could make that mark, attacking the shoe impression the defense is trying to tie to the pharmacist, and repeating that only one person left unknown DNA male DNA in crime scene, this state lawyer is very good,
