NEW TRIAL (yes, another one ) - AZ v Ian Mitchem begins today. Mitcham is facing trial for the 2015 murder of 31-year-old Allison Feldman, who was found dead and naked in her home. Feldman’s father said he hadn’t heard from his daughter, which was unusual, and he later asked Feldman’s then-boyfriend to check on her. When they arrived at the home, it smelled strongly of chlorine and bleach, and they discovered Feldman naked, dead, and allegedly sexually assaulted with a beer bottle. Mitcham was originally charged in 2018, but a dispute over DNA evidence delayed the trial.

PHOENIX (AZFamily) — A trial is underway for a man who is accused of brutally murdering a Scottsdale woman in her own home nearly 11 years ago.

Opening statements began on Wednesday morning in the trial of 50-year-old Ian Mitcham, who prosecutors say killed 31-year-old Allison Feldman. On Feb. 17, 2015, Feldman was found dead after being sexually assaulted, beaten and strangled in a neighborhood near Thomas and Pima roads.

DNA was collected at the crime scene, but there was no direct match to anyone in the system. With no solid leads, the case went cold for three years.

This is a capital case (eligible for the death penalty) and yes, the trial is scheduled to continue through May 2026. This long timeline accounts for witness testimonies, experts, familial DNA evidence that was used to ID IM, cross-examinations, and if he is convicted, penalty phase proceedings. In addition, court is not held daily; and the defense has attempted to implicate another individual.
