PHOENIX (AZFamily) — After a lengthy Thanksgiving break of nearly two weeks, a high-profile murder trial resumed Monday as jurors returned to hear testimony in the 2015 killing of Allison Feldman.

Prosecutors picked up the case against Ian Mitcham, the man accused of killing the Scottsdale woman in her home in February 2015. Feldman was discovered by her boyfriend after she had been beaten, strangled and sexually assaulted, authorities say.

Monday’s testimony focused largely on the earliest moments after Feldman was found and on forensic evidence that prosecutors say is central to the case.

Paul Nurrell, a firefighter for the city of Scottsdale, told jurors he smelled a strong chemical odor when he arrived at the home and that Feldman appeared very pale. “I noticed a really pungent smell of chlorine or bleach,” he said. Nurrell said Feldman’s head was wrapped in what appeared to be a towel or flannel shirt that was soaked in blood.

A neighbor, Nicole Nesselroad, testified that she heard a prolonged, intermittent scream the night of the killing. “I heard a woman or child scream for roughly a minute or two,” Nesselroad said, adding that the duration made the sound stand out from other neighborhood noises.
