Found Safe AZ - Amy Harshbarger, 40, and two sons, 13 & 7, Tempe, Arrest Warrant, 13 Aug 2021 *Mom arrested*

As far as I can tell from the articles, Amy mentioned to a neighbor that she intended to go camping. Therefore, it remains unconfirmed that she did actually go.

There was a custody petition filed just days before. Very concerning. Amy could have taken the boys off grid. Or not. She herself may not be safe. Someone else may have the boys.

We have one of the boy’s father on here as a VI. Where is the other boy’s father? (Edit to note that he cannot be sleuthed here.)

Where are you Amy, Garrett, and Miles?
I have spoken with Shawn, he messaged me on this site after a relative let him know about this thread. We spoke on the phone for several hours last night.

Do you know why authorities believe she’s headed to Tennessee? Does she have a connection to TN?

Would Shawn be willing to participate in these discussions?

the authorities are withholding some information, I don’t personally know of a Tennessee connection. Once the boys are found safe I think he would be willing to explain his side of things. There’s a lot there, I’ve learned a few things that I need to keep to myself for now, until authorities decide to go public with them. There is hope!

I’m glad to hear there is hope. Honestly her running off with the boys is better than some alternate situation, since the boys are probably safe and don’t know what’s going on.

I truly hope no harm comes to the boys - this must be awful for these families...
IMO

Maybe telling friends, neighbors she was going camping was just a story to keep people from asking questions when she left with her boys, and she had no intention of going camping, just running.

She will need to stop for gas and food if she’s traveling. Debit or credit purchases will give some insight into her location.

Hoping for some positive news soon. Prayers up for all.

Amy Harshbarger and her two sons, Garret Harshbarger, 13, and Miles Hammock-Harshbarger, 7, were reported missing on Aug. 13.

The search continues for an Arizona mother and her two sons who set out on a camping trip more than two weeks ago and haven’t been heard from or seen since. Police said on Monday the family may be headed to Tennessee, according to a published report.

Amy Harshbarger and her two sons, Garret Harshbarger, 13, and Miles Hammock-Harshbarger, 7, were reported missing on Aug. 13. One of the boy’s relatives reported the family missing. As of Monday afternoon, there were still no updates and the police continue to investigate.

Harshbarger made a statement about camping in the area of Payson or Prescott but did not give an exact location where they were heading, Temple police said in a news release.

Meanwhile, family members are frantic and want answers.
“This is definitely out of character,” Jennifer Robinson, Harshbarger’s sister told News 12. “She is a loving mom and responsible with her boys always wanting the best for them. This is definitely shocking for us. We just want to know she is safe and the boys are safe.”

Family members said that it is not unusual for the family to go camping.
Robinson said her sister told her children’s school and some people in her apartment complex about camping in the Payson or Prescott area, Arizona Republic reported.

Tempe police are seeking the public’s assistance on their whereabouts.

They said the family is possibly traveling in a silver 2004 Toyota Sequoia headed eastbound on Highway 27 from Huntsville, Alabama, with a possible destination of Tennessee, the release said.
Anyone with information is asked to call the Tempe police at 480-350-8311.

Thanks for this description of the conditions that weekend. Is there a particular reason you think they should focus on the northern area?
If she mentioned camping in the Payson or Prescott area - they are located North of the Phoenix valley - up north. And that’s where we camped on the 13th with the massive storm.

Prescott and Payson are both north of Phoenix, but they are in opposite directions. I wouldn't say I'm going camping in Prescott OR Payson, it would be one or the other. They also have a slightly different "feel" to them. There are more redrock and upscale properties in Prescott, as well as a lot of rehabs (just as an aside), while, imo, Payson is more blue collar and foresty. That said, I think camping was just a cover story.

She may have mentioned that and may have actually gone camping, but most recent from LE says that they were travelling on a rt in Alabama towards TN so the focus seems to have shifted. I think they have a decent idea what is going on and possible locations but still some work to do to track them down.

I currently live in Tempe, AZ and have had a few things stick out to me:

1. I took a peak at Google maps and played around for a moment. It looks like the most logical place that she could have gone camping was in the Payson area. I say this, because--assuming the spotting of the Sequoia in AL/TN--the most reasonable route from Tempe to that area would take you through Payson to get to I-40. Prescott is possible (you can get to the I-40 that way too) however, I think Payson is more likely because going that way is a popular shortcut when driving anywhere eastbound on I-40. Is she a site camper? Or does she prefer more off the grid type? If they'd have gone to a camp ground there might be surveillance footage etc.

2. Still on Google Maps, if the Sequoia was spotted going eastbound towards Chattanooga, TN on Hwy 72 near Huntsville, AL, and if she has family in Ohio, then it seems possible that the vehicle at least may have been in the Birmingham area and could potentially now be headed toward Ohio, going a slightly less obvious route via Hwy 72. Would there be anywhere especially lowkey for her to hide out in the area? A family cabin, friend/family member who lives in a secluded area, family campsite etc. that could be a possibility for her?

With many of the LE vehicles now sporting plate readers as well as toll road readers, that Sequoia should be popping up, unless as someone noted, the plates were changed out. That would have taken some planning.

And of course:

A new study found there are so many security cameras now, the average American is caught on camera 238 times a week. That's 34 times each day. And if you travel a lot, or work certain jobs, it's over a THOUSAND times a week. You're on Camera How Many Times a Week? - Hot 96.7.

We can find a terrorist driving a vehicle in a foreign country and take him out with a drone piloted from here in the US, but we can't track a vehicle with a missing mom and here kids? I'm not buying that.

Another thing about the swapping out the plates. Because of COVID and an aluminum shortage, the Maricopa Co. MVD was REALLY behind on license plates. I changed my registration (took my mom’s name off) in April of 2020 and got new plates mailed to me in June 2021. That said, I wonder if it’s possible that she recently changed something about her registration? If she did, she could 100000% be in possession of two active and functional AZ license plates (as am I, my partner who also made a registration change and prolly several others). Swapping them out every so often would be pretty easy

A big YES to your point about plate readers. There does seem to be one vehicle identified, interesting that it has Arizona plates (link below).
“Tempe police said the three could possibly be traveling in a silver 2004 Toyota Sequoia with Arizona license plate CLV5575, and added that they could be headed eastbound on Highway 72 from Huntsville, Alabama, with a possible destination of Tennessee.” Amy Harshbarger and sons are still missing.
