There is a 51 almost 52 year Cold Case out of Pima County Arizona. The murder victim was Calvin Edward Lane who people called bud. Well Pima County has been given the family the brush-off 51 years, it's been an open investigation twice yet the family has never heard any thing as to any outcome of either investigation. Recently Pima County said they would re look at the case. The family is still getting the brush-off. The Investigator assigned to the case first was homebound because of Coronavirus then was on summer vacation. That means nobody has really looked at the case. There has been no communication from them other than me every 3 months emails we have sent to them. They have not answered any of our questions, have not given us any information, but they are adamant that the family cannot have a copy of the case File. We just received the medical examiner's report as well as a copy of the death certificate. Now the medical examiner's report does not reflect a natural death however the medical examiner put on the death certificate that the immediate cause of death was unknown and the manner of death was a natural death. Now with the natural death on the death certificate Pima County cannot prosecute anyone for murder, so does that mean they haven't even been investigating this whole time because they know they can't prosecute anyone and that's why they're giving the family the brush off and won't let them have a copy of the case File? Because they haven't investigated anything and the case File is empty? If anyone can explain to me how this has been a homicide investigation yet the death certificate says natural death I would really love to hear your explanation. where I sit this doesn't look good. And there's no accountability. It's pima County's fault this case went the way it did, they even admitted it in the newspaper. Because they misfiled his missing persons report under solved cases Bud remaind a John Doe for 9 years. His family knows they're not going to get Justice because all suspects thought to be involved are deceased. But how does this family get closure when the Pima County Sheriff's Department just ignores them and won't give them any information? We really need help and if there's anyone out there that can help us it would be greatly appreciated

Welcome to Websleuths, @Kacee1 . So sorry your family, and Mr. Lane, have been treated this way!

There is a thread with family resources, but aimed at families of missing persons:

Missing Persons Resources

Recently a family started Twitter & Facebook pages to raise awareness of a mysteriously deceased family member:

OH - OH - William 'Bill' Comeans, 14, Columbus, 7 Jan 1980 - #2

Other posters are likely to have more information for you. Right now, I can't think of the user name of any Arizona people, but will try some solid bulldog investigating posters:

@MassGuy @GordianKnot @Satch @BattyP @Savemecastiel @neesaki @carbuff @PayrollNerd @Jim_M @ChatteringBirds @GatorFL

I lived in Eloy in the '80's, found LE there to be dedicated & helpful.

Best to you & your family, Laughing

Hi @Kacee1. Welcome to WS. I hear your frustration jumping right through my screen. I’m sorry for your pain. I’ve downloaded and converted your clippings to clear up the wording a bit. What does the middle initial ‘E’ stand for?

Thank you so very much! and thank you for adding in that article about the Roswell light I never found that one so thank you so much I appreciate what you did. The East stood for Edward his name was Calvin Edward Lane, but everyone called him Bud. You know I've done my own research because the detectives obviously weren't doing anything and I found one of the main suspects actually worked for the City of Tucson even though the police said they couldn't find any of the suspects. And it seems as though as soon as I brought that up the detectives have cut off communication with us it's very sad how they treat victims families and yes my frustration level is probably at a very unhealthy level right now but I thank you for recognizing that and helping in any way you can. We also have a Facebook group where we post all the stuff we find. But it's just very disgusting and disheartening to me that 51 years and they give the family nothing and I found so much more in two months that I've been able to give the family then they've gotten in 51 years and his dad did all that work on his own and he still ended up dying with outlining out anything about his son. But I still appreciate all your kind words and all your help

Thank you so much and I appreciate all your kind words. Unfortunately this specific department had massive corruption at the time of his murder. There was a grand jury in 68 to remove the head sheriff and his undersheriff for corruption but the judge or someone let the time run out so there was nothing that happened however they started a secret grand jury and then in 1971 the indictments were getting ready to be handed down and instead of being indicted they all resigned. They took the easy way out and I don't think that's very fair, but I do believe their corruption played a huge role in what happened to this investigation. And again thank you for your kind words and I greatly appreciate any help you can provide if you can if not your kind words are just good enough thank you so much

I am so sorry to hear that you and the family are going through this journey alone and that you have been treated ,what looks like , so abominably! It really frustrates the living crap out of me when LE don’t do what they are paid to do and hide behind the fact that they are a small police department or that they couldn’t locate suspects etc etc etc
Don’t get me wrong, a lot of Police and Law Enforcement officers do a sterling job but it’s the minority that let the rest of us down . And yes , I say ‘ US’ because, although I’m medically retired after a serious workplace accident causing spinal injury and temporary paralysis, I am still and always will be a police officer at heart with the will to always do my best to help others .
Therefore, albeit I’m across the pond, if there is anything that I can do, please ask . In the meantime, how about a Freedom of Information request? Do the USA subscribe to that ? Or is it just a UK Act and the parallel law is not enacted in the USA?

Also, how about putting together a chronological report and submitting it with a covering letterhead, to whom ever is the equivalent of an MP ( British member of parliament), maybe the Senator for your state?
You can raise a list of questions within the base of this report so that maybe they can be actioned by whomever your representative is and then you get some official answers and information as opposed to unofficial, given over the telephone and therefore if it’s not written down , it didn’t happen or wasn’t spoken if you get my meaning?

I also have a lot more information that I just I wasn't able to post here but I have all the research I found such as one of the major suspects actually worked for the city at the time I found that the people thought to have owned the ham and Egger where he worked more than likely didn't and the plac

The freedom of information act is only from what I can tell for federal information. We can file a complaint with the attorney general of Arizona however not sure if that will work, but it is an option. I totally agree with you I back the blue 1,000%, but I'm finding too many agencies who are treating victims and their families this way lately.the complexity of this case just makes it so hard to know which way or how to move forward. And I thank you for your service. I have emails in to news reporters I have phone calls to other departments, I'm just waiting on replies. And I greatly appreciate you for commenting and offering any help you maybe able to give should I need it

Thank you for posting this, this has a little bit of information that we've never heard. We never knew they investigated after bud's dad had passed, we also never knew about the caller who claimed to have killed someone in Tucson. Thank you very much

Hi! I just discovered this case today while researching the original Ham n Egger in Hollywood, owned by Lloyd Joseph Ganger in the late 1940s. After falling down a rabbit hole, I think I may have found Danny the creepy cook... and he's still alive. I also have a photo from his wife's Facebook, which I'm happy to send you (as well as his info) over DM. I read in a 1999 article that Bud's girlfriend Linda had met Danny. If she's still alive, perhaps she could take a look at the photo.

Also, I found the son of Lloyd and Ruby Ganger, who was 17 at the time of Bud's murder and might have been aware of his parents' activities.
