East Texas Man Missing In Grand Canyon, Vehicle Found

Rangers at Grand Canyon National Park are searching for a missing Texas man whose abandoned vehicle was found at the South Rim.

Park officials said Monday, Jun 14, that 49-year-old Charles Lyon of Tyler was last seen at a hotel in Tusayan last Thursday, June 10.

They said Lyon’s vehicle was located Friday along Desert View Drive near Lipan Point and it’s believed he was traveling alone.

Park rangers are asking anyone who may have seen or talked to Lyon recently to notify the National Park Service’s investigative branch.

Doesn't sound good at all - and travelling to the Grand Canyon alone? I wonder if he informed his family and friends where he was going?

There are some people and groups on Facebook who are sharing the basic information about Charles' disappearance in an attempt to gain awareness.

We have so little information about Charles and what might have been his state of mind at the time.

@10ofRods here is another missing persons case that occurred in the type of environment/location as mentioned in Ralph Elliot’s thread.

To Note:
•Unable to find an update
•I am also unable to find any additional info about Charles that may offer insight on the circumstances around his trip to the Grand Canyon and such

I live in this man's hometown. Only one article in the local paper and that was a day or two after he was reported missing. There have been 4-5 follow up type reports on local tv essentially repeating the initial information. I would guess the active search by the National Park Service has ended by now. It's odd that there is no information about any family, where he may have worked if he did, living situation (homeless, etc), background info. I suppose this man does not have any family or friends interested enough to try to keep his disappearance in the news. Sad.

Nothing at all in the local paper about this finding. No mention of an abandoned vehicle being found nearby the body. Does NamUs do any kind of identification efforts (DNA, etc.)?
