Video of a neighbor. They keep stressing the dumpster and their fear of it now besides living in the area. Don't they take dumpsters in murder cases where a body is found? Wonder why not this one? It's not even taped off. I know I've seen them haul them off on more than a few cases for evidence. I'd have an uneasy feeling too if it's the one Claudia was found in. Swap it out or haul it off, asap. Waiting on a warrant first?

Video of a vigil held at the dumpter tonight. Guess they aren't taking it. It's been contaminated for sure now. So horribly sad to see a vigil at such a horrible location. Also horribly sad someone(s) killed a young girl and dump her in a dumpster. smh

At a news conference Tuesday, Mesa Police announced the arrest of a suspect in the Claudia Lucero homicide case. The 14-year-old girl's body was found in a dumpster last week.

Claudia Lucero was last seen at her home at 6:30 a.m. Thursday, and a missing-persons report had been filed, police said. Friends said she and her mother may have had a fight.

It was unlike the popular student, who walked to and from school, to be absent. Her friends were immediately worried. Their worry escalated into fear when Lucero’s mother contacted her daughter’s closest friend asking about her whereabouts, several friends said.

“I wanted to know why she wasn’t in school, I wanted to know what happened,” said Elena Lopez, friend and freshman classmate.

the man was a friend of the family and had been taken in previously. He was asked to leave the residence several weeks ago when it was discovered he was touching the girl inappro.

Once her body was found, LE found him and arrested him on outstanding charges, pending the results of the DNA found on the girl. They wanted him off the streets.

96 hours later they had a DNA match. LE said capital case and want the maximum for this man.

ETA: The girl was the last one to leave home every morning. All the adults would leave for work before her. She would lock up and walk to the bus/school.

Arizona is part of DNA saves = previously ARRESTED = DNA taken and entered into CODIS. The guy was on file.

you beat me to posting this! So glad an arrest was made so quickly and this family and friends did not have to languish too long wondering who did this. I hope it was quick for her. The vigil sounds like it was heartbreaking. (as if it could be anything else, I know...) Those poor friends of hers, having to know this kind of crime so early in life.

Milstead said Madrid was the boyfriend of the victim's mother who used to live with them.

He recently became estranged from the family after he allegedly touched the victim inappropriately, according to Milstead.

She was reportedly scared of Madrid.

Two women digging through the trash container for aluminum cans at the Sun Garden Apartments in Mesa early Friday morning discovered the body of Claudia Ann Lucero, police announced yesterday. A resident of the complex told Phoenix TV station KPHO that she heard shouting about 11.30pm Thursday.

MESA, Ariz. - A suspect has been arrested in the death of a 14-year-old Mesa girl who was assaulted, strangled and dumped in a trash container, police said Tuesday. Alex Anthony Madrid, 31, was being held without bond on suspicion of first-degree murder, according to Mesa police.
