that is awful. But something tells me this bf may be lying. I dunno just a feeling I get I guess. He definately deserves the death penalty as he said he wants, to bad they can't drown him just like he did the little boy.

I remember this case and it is sad. It is possible the mother was involved in this but she is not being charged with anything. That poor little boy.

I wonder why mom is not being charged, being that this guy previously abused the child? Mom should at least be charged with enabling child abuse.

It took jurors roughly three days to return a death sentence for Derek Chappell, who was convicted in August in the first-degree murder of Devon Hinman Shackleford.

Investigators said Chappell walked the toddler to their apartment complex pool March 11, 2004, and held Devon under the water as he struggled. Chappell was then said to have walked away, leaving the boy's body behind...

Chappell had been accused of choking Devon in December 2003, and state Child Protective Services had warned Devon's mother, Kristal Shackleford, to cut ties with Chappell. But defense attorneys said the couple resumed their relationship.
