The "man with a walking stick" is a Saint Francis of Paola (San Francisco de Paula) pendant. There's a locality in Bustamante, Estado de Tamaulipas, with the same name. Interesting fact, San Francisco de Paula is located south of a locality called San Antonio de Padua.
Maybe the UP was from Bustamante?

I suspect the medal with the ‘man with walking stick’ is St Jude, patron saint of hopeless causes.

St Anthony is the patron saint of lost things.

The buckle is described as silver, with 2 roosters facing each other. Maybe like the attached?

“Gowin” seems to be Chinese white-labeler company. I wonder what the inscription on the back says.

Gowin looks to me to be a semiconductor company, and there seems to be a retailer in Mexico?

Shade of blue is similar, case could hold a flash drive/memory device

My Spanish isn't nearly enough here -- anyone know a poster fluent in Spanish?

@Hochman posted another set of remains near Gila Bend earlier today. Plenty of wide open space in this area, just north of the US/Mexico border.

Long. long ago I lived in Maricopa County, did you know that most Arizona counties are large enough to contain 2 or 3 New England states?

I think @Laughing 's link to the online electronics store is correct. The font is exactly the same. They started out in 1989 as a watch company then grew to include different kinds of products. They have stores all over Mexico (including airports and online offerings). They sell some of the more popular brands of electronics (such as beats headphones) and also have their own brand which they established in 2007.

I didn't see anything that looked like the case on the website, but it could have been supplied with corded headphones or similar. The company also does a lot of philanthropic work (housing, food, cochlear implants) so this little case might be some sort of promotional item from one of these events. I, too wish that we could see what is written on it!

So if I understand it right. On the green necklace there a two medallions, the man with the stick (St. Jude most likely, St. Anthony is always depicted with the child Jesus on his arm) and also a very small one. Also a man with a stick? I can't make the picture that big that I can really take a good look at it.

The oval medallion is St. Anthony:

The "man with a walking stick" is in my opinion Saint Francis of Paola, but it could be Saint Jude Thaddeus as well, or any other Saint. Without a name engraved is hard to tell which, as there are other Saints depicted with walking sticks.

Thanks for enlarging the pictures. The small one is very likely St. Anthony. The man with the stick....I'm not 100% sure either.

Maybe the St. Anthony medallion has, besides what it represents, another clue to who this is. Maybe he was born on June 13 or his name was also Fernando? Too far fetched I guess.

Then there is Saint Antonius of Egypt (Anthony the Great) who often is depicted with a walking stick and a book. Like in the medallion.

Saint Anthony the Great was born into a wealthy family in upper Egypt about 254 AD. Also known as Anthony of Egypt, Anthony of the Desert, and Anthony the Anchorite, he was a leader among the Desert Fathers, who were Christian monks in the Egyptian desert in the 3rd and 4th centuries AD. The Orthodox Church celebrates his feast on January 17.

Confusing.....

I think the dessert is very hot, accelerating decomposition...PMI is 6 months. I'm just not so sure anymore...seeing people identified with DNA analyzes, with nothing close to the estimated stats from the skeleton. Wrong age, wrong PMI, even wrong race.

Since the UP was found in an extremely decomposed state, weight isn't really something that can be determined postmortem. The similarities between the recon and Jose are striking if you ignore the weight difference.
