"In March, 1963, Jane Langdon was 21 years old, and a student at Texas Christian University. She had just flown to Phoenix to see her hospitalized mother when she was abducted, assaulted and shot to death. Because she belonged to a prominent Texas family, her murder was widely publicized, but her killer was never found. Jane's case is the oldest unsolved murder in Maricopa County.''

Whatever became of this arrest?

Erwin Fay Stewart, 37, an Arizona State prison convict from Denver, was charged Friday with the 1963 slaying of Texas socialite Jane Langdon. Stewart, serving 4 to 6 years of for grand theft was charged with first degree murder. Justice of the Pence Charles Peace Justice Charles Coppock scheduled a preliminary hearing for Aug. 30.

Officers said Stewart was given lie detector tests just a few days after Miss Langdon's murder In 1963. The tests were Inconclusive. Investigators said the charge was filed on the basis of physical evidence and statements from acquaintances of Stewart. Miss Langdon disappeared March 21, 1963, after she arrived in Phoenix to visit her mother in a Phoenix hospital.
