Long article:
Crystal Wilson was not available for comment this week.
The most frequent reason for a childs disappearance, statistically speaking of course, are kids who are alienated and run away from home, Dr. David Finkelhor, a researcher for NISMART, said in an interview with The Republic.
Finkelhor also serves as the director of Crimes Against Children Research Center at the University of New Hampshire, which has extensively studied child victimization and missing-children cases.
"Its very unusual for a child that young to do that, he said, when told about the known specifics of Jesse's disappearance. "Its usually a child in their early teens or teens who may really have a serious conflict with their family or serious issues with school, who might have someplace to run away to or go to."
"Kid that age are vulnerable to getting into situations in which theyre in physical dangers in the environment, Finkelhor said.
Sgt. Jason Weeks, a Buckeye police spokesman, said detectives have searched Buckeye Lake and canals in the area with the use of drones. He credits a local company for donating equipment to use on the weekends, allowing authorities to cover more ground and use less personnel.
...
Finklehor said that the public shouldnt infer much about how much time has passed since Jesses disappearance, or in any missing-children cases, because many different factors are at play.
Youll sometimes hear people say something like if they dont find a kid on the first day, that the odds are bad about whats happened. I dont think thats strictly true, he said. Its true that most missing-children episodes are resolved fairly quickly. Its rare for them to go longer than a few weeks.
It really depends what has happened to the child. If the child is in custody of a parent or hiding out somewhere, then the odds of the child being recovered is good. If a child is subject to foul play by parents or abducted by strangers, yes, it doesnt bode well."

Although African-Americans make up just 13 percent of the U.S. population, we account for 33 percent of the missing in the Federal Bureau of Investigations database. Cases involving African-Americans also tend to receive less media coverage than missing Whites, with missing men of color getting even less attention.
NewsOne has partnered with the Black and Missing Foundation to focus on the crisis of missing African-Americans.
To be a part of the solution, NewsOne will profile missing persons and provide tips about how to keep your loved ones safe and what to do if someone goes missing.

We are still out there looking for Jesse and have not stopped, Sgt. Jason Weeks told NewsOne.
Police are continuing the search over areas of rough terrain via the air and are asking for area residents to be alert to any sightings and to share Jesses photo over social media.
The FBI is also involved in the investigation. Weeks said foul play has not been ruled out as of yet.
