It would seem to me that if Jhessye had ringworm, at the very least some or all of the other children would have it. It would also seem, IMO that the main caretaker (mom) would get it, too.

http://www.ringwormremedys.com/Is-Ringworm-Contagious.html

When my daughter was infested with headlice, my son got it (shaved his head), and I got it. Dad didn't get it, though.

IMO, it makes no sense that she was out of school for that long due to ringworm and none of the other children were.

On the other hand, my daughter was out of school for most of the week when she had lice because as much as I tried, I could not get rid of it. My son DID go to school and I was there EVERYDAY updating the school on the progress of what I now call the lice fiasco.

earlier tonite the news was saying several family members are pressuring jerice into taking a polygraph test. also, J was absent from school 10 days before she went "missing". jerice claims she had ring worm. they are thinking the witness confused J with her 6 y/o sister.

IMO this is terrible news. I think we are going to eventually find out the mother killed her daughter at least a week before she was reported missing. Total speculation, but based on prior cases, this is what I fear.

Okay,
I was able to ask dh a couple of questions. As I understand it..the reason homicide has gotten involved... there's no direct evidence to Jhessye leaving on her own or having been kidnapped at all. That includes video..through interviews, etc. Those are things we have suspected all along..but when I can...I like to get his professional opinion.
Disclaimer* this is how things are done, in his homicide unit..things may be done differently in AZ.

I feel so bad for her..it's not right. I'm so sick of crazy @ss people doing things to their trusting, innocent children.

I am still in shock over Jhessye not being in school for awhile...we had known she wasn't there the day she went missing but I honestly didn't see this one coming....
I have seen no reports verifying Jhessye was seen by any doctor to get a diagnosis of ringworm
If 10 days is the truth.....where was CPS, a truancy officer, a teacher.....anybody? 10 days is a long time to be out of school and have no contact with a student. Yes, I know she was only 5, but wouldn't a red flag have been raised somewhere in the school system?

I still don't think J was kidnapped. From day one this story hasn't sat well with me. When I drive through the neighborhood, it feels different than in the past. I think in the days to come we will hear something in regards to the mom. Last week I heard on the news they had marked off part of the city dump and no new trash was going to be allowed in that area. This whole story is sad, g'ma has gotten awfully quiet too.

Grandma is in California but is supposed to be back in Arizona tomorrow..... I hope the media is waiting for her and asks her about why Jhessye was out of school so long and if she knew about it....
I want to know the last time Grandma spoke to Jhessye....even if it was on the phone

Jahessye Shockley Disappearance Featured on America's Most Wanted; Investigators Remain Optimistic
http://blogs.phoenixnewtimes.com/valleyfever/2011/11/jahessye_shockley_disappearanc.php
Coombs declined to say whether there was any evidence to suggest the Shockley's mother, Jerice Hunter -- who served prison time for child abuse and recently had her three other children taken by state Child Protective Services -- hurt the girl. He would only say that "no suspects have been named."

A Glendale police spokesman, Sgt. Brent Coombs, said solving the case would probably be more a matter of time passing than any big breaks.

What do you reckon this means? Do they think they've solved it already pending some test results or something?

This sickens me and basically tells me that they are no longer looking for an alive little Jhessye. Time passing??? I don't get what that means exactly.

Absolutely! I never had a student out for more than 2 days in a row that I wasn't in communication with the parents. As a mom, I email whenever one of mine is sick, and make sure the school knows if it is anything contagious.

Even in kindergarten there are probably coloring sheets and things she could do at home. If she really did have ringworm and needed to stay home (which I don't believe) then it would be that much more important to mom to find stuff for her to do b/c she would be bored out of her mind. It's not like the flu where they are sleeping a lot!

I am absolutely sick over this 10 days crap. Sadly I agree with the poster above who feels that we will eventually find out no one had actually laid eyes on Jhessye for days.

You know, it makes me wonder if Jerice got mad and beat her badly. Perhaps she was too bruised or injured to go to school, and that's why she came up with this ringworm crap. That might have even been her excuse to the other kids to keep her in a separate room.

Poor little Jhessye may have died of her injuries or been killed when Jerice realized that someone was going to find out about the abuse and take all the kids. Who knows when she was disposed of or how? 10 days is an awfully long window, and I wouldn't be surprised if LE starts looking at the dump now.

I'm not sure I trust anything Gma or Jerice say at this point. I said this before; it appears to me that Gma and Jerice want all details kept quiet. Jerice forwent an opportunity to visit with her newborn daughter today and slipped out a backdoor to avoid Kim Covington (azcentral.com-reporter). Gma in her radio interview never mentioned J's absence from school? Instead she deflects attention to anyone she can.

My head is spinning with this latest revelation, I'm in shock. My daughter had ringworm on her leg when she was 6. The Dr. gave us an ointment and instructions on how to avoid spreading. Stated it was likely from the kitten she found and drug home. He said she could go to school, no problem (she wore pants). It cleared up entirely after a week and none of the other four of us in our home got it. So with my personal experience, I'm having a really hard time believing this story!

My thoughts immediately went to *isolation*. Did something happen to Jhessye that Jerice could not allow her to tell an adult, particularly one at school? Keep in mind, the cousin reported suspected abuse of Jhessye to CPS. They would have interviewed her right? Are children told by CPS to vocalize certain things to an adult they trust? I have zero experience in this, Belimom you work in a school setting don't you?

I am trying to hold out hope that J will be found alive, but with this revelation ...

I have so many questions now, about the other children and what they saw and heard in that home.

something that caught my attention today.....could mean something, maybe not..
Jhessye was reported missing Oct 11. While looking at older news stores, I realized that the balloon launch they held for J actually took place at a family reunion that had been previously planned. IIRC it was the 24th.
We have no idea when J disappeared. Could the upcoming family reunion been one of the reasons jerice reported her missing when she did.....family would have been coming in town and would have questioned where J was. I just find it odd that 13 days before the family reunion is when she disappeared. IMO

I have also been wondering this; Are the cousins who raised J, from Jerice's Father's side of the family? Anyone know?
