Police said Monday they've arrested the mother of a missing 5-year-old Arizona girl on child abuse charges.

Jerice Hunter was arrested on child abuse charges "directly related to Jahessye," Glendale Police Sgt. Brent Coombs said. Jahessye Shockley has been missing since Oct. 11.

Coombs said Monday investigators don't believe they'll find the girl alive and that Hunter "is our No. 1 focus."

Glendale police have arrested Jerice Hunter, mother of missing Glendale girl Jhessye Shockley, on charges of child abuse related directly to her daughter.

"We have not located Jhessye yet. Today Jerice Hunter was arrested by the Glendale PD directly related to her daughter Jhessye," said Sergeant Brent Coombs with the Glendale Police Department during a press conference.

The information that was used to make the arrest on Hunter was obtained within the past few days, Coombs said, adding that many leads received by police have pointed to Hunter.

Hunter is currently the "number one focus" of the investigation and police believe she "played a key role" in her daughter's disappearance, said Coombs.

A polygraph test has been offered to Hunter on multiple occasions, but Hunter has not been cooperative, Coombs said.

Yes, I heard Donna Rossi of KPHO say the same thing. Donna said they talked for about 30 minutes.

I'd say that means Jerice Hunter is officially a POI and her victim status here at WS is not sound any longer. My Own nonMod Opinion

I think you are right about the school absence Nursie. And good suggestion about grandpa being the reporter caller. I forgot his first name was Jesse. That would make total sense.

typing too fast and thoughts are scrambled right now....sorry.
Reporter says Jerice has been calling her because LE is treating her bad and no one will listen to her. Reporter from KPHO says she will have more on the story later tonight.

so doesn't this now all center around:
1) what the other kids saw that day
-how was J acting previously (I am thinking head injury so confused, throwing up, etc? why was she out of school?
-what did they see when mom locked J in the apartment for her "errand"
-when was the last time they saw Jerice? (ie, could she have taken the cab ride to set up the story/throw away other evidence, etc?

2) cab driver
-where did Jerice go and what was she carrying?
-what was her demeanor?
-what did she purchase at the store? cleaning supplies, etc?

KTAR is reporting Jerice's father is saying charges are "bogus" and they just need a scapegoat

That's exactly what I heard, it's Jerice that called Donna Rossi of KPHO.

Coombs refused to give details on how close investigators were to finding the girl's body.

Glendale police will continue to search for Jhessye, Coombs confirmed.

"It is our mission to do the very best that we can in order to find Jhessye and bring those people or that person to justice."

:-(

I slept through the presser... Are they now saying "body" for sure? I mean, we all thought that. But is LE saying it now?

TIA!

3) given the extended absence from school my questions are as follows:
- When did siblings last set eyes on a living alert Jhessye
- based upon that piece of information
- What did Jerice do with her days from that moment on, til the day Jhessye was reported missing?
- did she leave the house during that time frame ever? Ride? Cab? On foot? Carrying anything (ie. suitcase, bag, large box, etc)
