My thinking on the cleaning spree is this....why would she have left the cleaning for any amount of time after Jhessye died? I think the body was disposed of, and the cleaning frenzy began immediately. I don't think Jerice really had any choice, because the aftermath of death and decomposition would have already been present. She could not let that situation go on for too long before it was discovered. Anyone entering the apt. would have smelled it if she had not cleaned ASAP.

I think Jhessye died in the closet, and Jerice realized she was in big trouble when she opened the door and found her child deceased. Her plan was to dump her child's body, clean up, and then figure out a way to make it look like Jhessye was taken by someone. She saw her opportunity, set it up and then called the police. But that was only done after she'd had time to clean up and air out the closet. I believe the dumping was done while the 13 year old was asleep. No witness...

That's why Jhessye can't be found. Jerice skewed the timeline...

I think LE is building a case on circumstantial evidence, coupled with forensics from the closet and the apt, and testimony from the other children.

That was my thought too but I just worry, in the back of my mind. What if she discovered Jhessye dead in the closet, within the next 24 hours disposed of the body (before decomp at least the associated odor and breakdown of body began).

I am just really worried that the bleach cleaning spree was more about nerves and wanting to make sure she had gotten rid of any possible evidence of Jhessye (alive and dead) in that closet.

Come on LE, please don't let Jhessye down she's seen enough of that in life. Please find this child and prosecute her Jerice.

Well....the 13 year old commented on the odor. And it doesn't take long for decomp to begin. In a closet without air circulation, it might've been worse. Closets are often pretty warm and stuffy inside because they don't usually have air vents.

I think Jerice disposed of Jhessye, and then went to Walgreens for the bleach almost as soon as she found her...within a few hours or within a day at the longest. She could not have risked waiting any longer IMHO.

The only other scenario I can think of is maybe she placed Jhessye in a plastic container of some kind and left it in the closet for a few days.

One thing is certain. Jerice did not treat her little girl's body with any respect or feel any remorse. She was all about saving herself.
That infuriates me almost as much as the abuse and the murder.

Then where the he// is Jhessye? Sorry I am just frustrated. I cannot figure out how a woman without transportation could hide her little body so well that LE has not found it.

  • #45
IMHO she's either in the landfill/dump or her Mother had help in moving her. JMHO.

as to the smell described by her sister, that could have been sepsis, from wounds received becoming infected and never treated. The sister last describes Jhessye as being alive but having the appearance of a zombie. I think that poor girl saw her Jhessye just before death finally claimed her. I just really want this child found. So badly.

Sorry, I try not to be all emotional and illogical when discussing these cases but the combination of baby Lisa, followed by Aliayah, Jhessye, sky, Bianca all so close together, and then capped off by little Jorelys, I am frayed right now.

Thanks to all who have been on this bumpy ride with me.

She didn't say she was alive but looked like a zombie. She said she looked like a zombie, her hair was pulled out, her eyes were only partway open, and the closet smelled like dead people. :( I don't think she saw Jhessye just BEFORE she died--I think she saw her just AFTER she died.

That could be tlcox....but I personally believe it was the smell of death because the 13 year old said that specifically. She didn't say it smelled bad, she equated the smell with death, so I tend to think that's what she witnessed.

These cases do take a toll on us. Sometimes I just can't be here every day.

If you have ever smelled a septic wound that is as close to the smell of death as you can get without actually smelling dead person. It is the smell of rotting dying decaying tissue, just like decomp is on a larger scale.

But if you are right, then that takes us to the 13 year old's date provided on when this sighting occurred which I think was September 12th IIR. That is a long long time before the bleach cleaning spree.

I sure wish we had a better idea of when Jhessye passed :(

I really really think that date was a typo. Jhessye was still attending school long after that date.

I agree, that date can't be right in light of the school's last date of attendance for Jhessye. As I said, I really wish we had a better timeline. I don't believe the sibling is right in her date but as a teen I really couldn't have told you a date when something happened either.

I could have told you something happened on a wednesday because I remembered I had gym class on that day, or that something occurred on saturday because I was off school and watched a favorite program that night. But I just really think the sibling has the date wrong and if so how do we figure out what the real window is here?

Just venting, not expecting an answer.

I really really think that date was a typo. Jhessye was still attending school long after that date.

Jhessye's last day at school was September 22nd. She was reported missing October 11th.

Jhessye's sibling described Jerice coming home and finding Jhessye watching TV with a neighbor boy. She called our sweet little one a "ho", then dragged her into the bedroom and abused her. Since Jhessye did not attend school on Friday, September 23rd, I think this assault occurred on Thursday night.

That is 18 days between the initial assault and the day Jerice called police. IIRC the sibling, on a least one occasion (maybe more I need to look back at the report), she took Jhessye from the closet while Jerice was gone and gave her food and water.

I have many questions about this. Was Jhessye able to walk, did they discuss what was going on? Was J begging her to get help or to call the police? I haven't voiced these questions because they are painful to even consider and I don't want to seem as if I am questioning the actions of the siblings. They are completely blameless in all this and are victims too.

Have any of you ever wondered what it was Jerice said to the other children to keep them from telling anyone Jhessye was in that closet? I shudder to think how they dealt with that. I also wonder if any of the other children missed a lot of school during this period? Did teachers notice anything unusual in their behavior?

Jhessye, you are not forgotten.

all very good questions knox and ones that I have wanted to ask, but the delicacy you describe has prevented me. All I can hope is that LE is getting those answer, with the help of trained professionals.

The little purple Christmas tree about broke my heart.

It's too quiet tlcox. I don't want Jhessye to be forgotten, so as horrible as it is to think these thoughts, or ask those questions, I want justice for her more. I want her found, given a decent burial. A place all those that loved her can go to mourn and visit.

I don't want Jerice to feel that just because she is not being followed by reporters, or is not in jail, that she has gotten away with abusing and murdering Jhessye.

ETA-Most of all, I hope Jerice or someone she knows reads here!!!!!!!!!!!!!

 I know, I have been feeling the same exact way. We are all in this together and its on us to not let her be forgotten. That cannot be allowed to happen.

BBM. Iirc, it was unusually warm here in late September/early October. For example, it was 105 on September 24. Even if Jerice had the air conditioning going, if the closet was part of an outside wall, it had lots of heat beating down on it. I can't help but wonder if the heat helped to accelerate the decomposition process.

I don't remember if this has been posted or not. I just looked at the bus route information for buses near Jerice's apartment. From what I can tell, she lives very close to Glendale Ave which is serviced by Route 70. If Jerice bought bleach early on the morning of October 9th, then I don't think Jerice used the bus that morning before buying the bleach. On Sundays, the earliest eastbound bus is at 43/Glendale at 6:18 AM, and the earliest westbound bus is at 7:20 AM. The results are similar for the closest north/south bus, the 43. If she used public transportation to carry off Jhessye, then she probably did it the day or days before her "spurt" of cleaning.

I don't think the sibling has the date wrong--I think whoever typed up the report got the date wrong. I have never seen a police report that was factually accurate from A to Z. ;)

If LE had been interviewing the sister and she had actually SAID "I last saw Jhessye on Sept. 12," the interviewer would have said, "Well, she was still in school Sept. 22--are you sure?" and the sister would surely have thought about it and changed the date. IMO it is extremely unlikely the sister gave a specific date; more likely, she said something like, "I last saw her in the closet X days before mom called the police."
