Prosecutors: Mother is responsible for missing girl's death

It's hard to believe we've been covering the case of a missing Glendale girl for almost a year now.
5-year-old Jhessye Shockley was reported missing last October.
After months of investigating and pouring over evidence, prosecutors believe they can prove that her own mother is responsible for the child's death.
On Monday, Jerice Hunter is expected to respond to charges of murder and child abuse.

Hunter is scheduled to appear in court for her arraignment at 8:30 a.m. in superior court in downtown Phoenix.
Hunter's attorney, Scott Maasen, told ABC15 he believes his client is innocent and that she will plead not guilty.

Hunter has maintained her innocence.

Her father has also been a vocal supporter of hers. He said he believes his granddaughter is still alive and that someone kidnapped her.

Can't wait to hear how arraignment goes down today. Maybe Jesse will have more conspiracy theories to spout.

November is not that bad me thinks. The Janet Abaroa trial will start possibly in October, seven years after her murder and two years since they arrested her husband for her murder. :please:

After the plea, Hunter's lawyer, Scott Maasen, told CBS 5 News, "Under the circumstances, considering why we're here, and all the publicity this has had, you know, she's in relatively well spirits, I would say."

Maasen said, "There may be people in the community that may come to her aide and in terms of posting the bond and so we'll be hopeful that that may occur."

"I've had one very limited conversation with the prosecutor assigned to the case. Most cases there are negotiations that are extensive on whether cases go forward or not. It's very rare that cases go forward to trial but some cases do," Maasen said. "So again, at this point if this is a marathon, we're right at the starting line

Why is jerice wearing a dress?

Dream on Maasen, who in their right mind would put up that kind of money to bond her out?

I felt the same way, katy. It even looks like she's laughing. Does she find all of this humorous? If she really believed her child to be alive and was concerned about her, she would not see any humor in this. :maddening:

I can't see that anyone would be stupid enough to bail jerice out except her mom or dad and they don;t have the money and if they did, they ought to be saving it up to make bail of their own. I surely hope that her mom and dad can be charged for helping her cover up for Jhessye's horrible and torturous death.

Smile all you want jerice, you will soon be in a place where other inmates will be happy to smack that smile off your face on a daily basis. Most people in jail do not like child abusers or baby killers and I can only hope that you suffer worse than poor sweet Jhessye did.

Truly jerice makes me sick to my stomach. I know she was jealous of how loved and adored Jhessye was. She probably hated that Jhessye had a better life than jerice ever had and that made jerice mad.

I'm going to go sit on my hands now to keep from really going off on jerice because I truly loath her and what she has done to Jhessye and Jhessye's sibling and to Jhessye's adoptive family.

Mr. Maasen - this statement makes zero sense. Your client is pleading NG. So there will be no plea bargain obviously. What else would prevent this case from going forward? And I would like to see some statistics backing up that BBM business. I would disagree strongly with that. Most cases do indeed go forward to trial, as will this one. Magical thinking aside, how exactly do you plan to defend your client? Might want to start thinking about your strategy Sir.

Just sayin.

I dont understand why peeps are wondering why she is wearing a dress? I was always under the belief that you dressed as well as you could when going to court. I do wonder why she is dressed that way and not in a jail suit.

What the heck is Maasen trying to say?:waitasec:

I think 1) He was trying to sound intelligent, and failed miserably. Maybe that's why Jerice is smiling ... she doesn't realize he's speaking nonsense and pretends that it all makes sense to her.
2) He's trying to make it sound like this case is all just a big misunderstanding and it can be settled out-of-court. Obviously, Maasen doesn't know the meaning of the word extensive. Maybe someone should explain to him the meaning of murder, too. If he's going to insist that Jhessye is still alive somewhere, then he'd better come up with a live Jhessye REAL QUICK!

BBM I think that's what people are questioning ... why she's wearing a dress and not a jail suit. That's what I wondered when I saw the picture.

Yeah, sorry, Jesse, but you DID raise a monster.

Yes, and that was already proven years ago when she beat her daughter with an extension cord. She IS a monster, and that is an undisputed fact Jesse!!

RSBM - Wasn't there a civil rights leader that was defending Jerice in the beginning? Maybe they are hoping he will come back to bail her out. Makes me
