Deceased/Not Found AZ - Jhessye Shockley, 5, Glendale, 11 Oct 2011 - #7 *J. Hunter guilty*

This prosecutor is very good. She made some excellent points in closing statement and tied everything nicely together. I am so relieved because I worried about defense dismantling all of the testimony against JH. IMO, deliberations will take only about 2 hours.

I did learn something from the defense: evidence = distraction
I'll have to remember that.

Got my fingers crossed. Seems like we waited a long time for "Verdict Watch".

I haven't posted much throughout the trial, but I've been reading diligently the whole time.

Once again, a huge thanks to everyone posting tweets and thoughts. Your dedication to coverage made a huge impact on how the trial has unfolded on Websleuths.

Jhessye is just too precious to be forgotten. And that women killer deserves punishment.

I think that the only way a jury could go with Not Guilty is if they believe the older lady and her story about the 'kidnapped' girl. But there are problems with the time and the clothing description.

I do believe that lady did see a crying girl. And she might have been 'forced' into a car. But I have picked up my kids from somewhere when they were angry or crying about something. Doesn't mean they were 'kidnapped.'

I don't think they will let her walk with all of the other more damning evidence. The defense never gave a good reason for the long drive to the dumpster to toss out the suitcase. And they did not give a good reason for sweet Jhessyes blood to be in the closet. They just said it was 'not that much' blood. I am glad the 2 pregnant women stayed on the jury.

I do not believe Jerice is a likable defendant. She seemed completely devoid of normal emotions during the trial. I hope and pray that this jury won't be looking for any excuses to explain away what happened to Jhessye.

Um Hum. Would have loved to watch livestream vs tweet. I'm sure she had her two seconds with the traumatized daughter and confused neighbor. Other than that, nada in her favor.

The biggest hole in the defense is not addressing the dumpster trip. I'm guessing half a day's deliberations. Verdict by two oclock AZ time.

We will definitely have a verdict today, I'm sure of it. I can't imagine they could come back with anything less than guilty. I feel like you would have to suspend reality to believe what the defense was trying to say happened, and from the tweets, the jury wasn't buying it either.

Gevee, again so many thanks for the posts. I ended up in the midst of a power outage and didn't miss a thing.

While I think what was said could have been said in half the time, I was very pleased with what I got from the tweets. Prosecution put out the facts first with the prosecutor who prefers to follow his notes from behind the podium. Then, the defense came in with emotional argument, which, IMHO :moo:, left a lot of holes that have been mentioned here. To round it out, the second prosecutor gave their case an emotional ending.

I'm estimating 1 1/2 hours to verdict.

Thanks to all who have posted updates waiting for this to get to Trial. Thanks ARW for your archiving. Thanks to geevee for all your dedication to tweets. And anyone else who jumped in with tweets. I think this Jury gets it. I predict a verdict today or tomorrow a.m. at the latest. This was a heartbreaking case. Justice for Jhessye sigh......I was in Phoenix when this case broke and I had read of it prior. I wanted to head over to the apt. to lay some flowers. My Sis wouldn't drive in that area and said you are definitely not getting out of the car if I was inclined. We did drive near the area tho. So I got close. My hear breaks for Jhessye and all the others who wont be saved!

I typically would not wish violence upon anyone. However there are cases every now and again where Prison "code" doesn't bother me in the least.

I think we have confirmation the picture of Jhessye's sister was admitted, as per the Trial Day Nineteen minute entry:

http://www.courtminutes.maricopa.gov/docs/Criminal/042015/m6796672.pdf

During rebuttal State's Exhibit #17 was admitted just before the last witness was excused.

Also, according to yesterday's minute entry, the court stood at recess at 4:57 p.m., no mention of the jury's deliberation schedule, only that they retired to consider their verdict at 4:55:

I was just noticing in the pics of the rally to find Jhessye that her name is spelled Jahessye on the signs they're holding. That says to me that it wasn't even Jerice that organized the rally.

What a sorry excuse for a human being.

In all the early reports, she was known as Jahessye.

I am hoping for a verdict today. The only thing that worries me is a jury finding guilt without a body. I KNOW it can be done! Since I didn't watch the trial, I just hope that this prosecution was able to tie it together enough for the jury. This monster needs to never go free!

Can you IMAGINE the fear that our darling little protected witness would feel if she walked free from this?!!

:praying: for our little butterfly princess!

Cocomod, I was thinking the same thing. I am hoping that the jury votes as they seemed to react to closings yesterday. In the worst case scenario for justice, we should remember that this would be a second conviction for child abuse. That would add to the time she is in jail.

Does anyone know if she was on parole in California? It seems she didn't complete her full sentence there. Would California want to extradite her for violation of parole? I also wonder if she was in violation of parole when she moved to AZ. If so, why didn't California track her down and lock her up? Seems it would have saved Jhessye's life. Maybe I missed the discussion on that issue somewhere along the line.

Do we know if anyone will be at the courthouse for jury watch?

BBM~ Right? Isn't that pathetic? But.. That's exactly what they said.
I learned from the Arias defense.. If there is no evidence... Make some up!
I guess when you're guilty you have to use smoke and mirrors.. illusion, to crawl your way out of the hole you dug. Didn't work for Arias.. Hope it doesn't work for Hunter either.
