Jonathan Hemer was traveling with a friend from Austin, Texas to California. They were in a truck with a trailer that had a motorcycle inside. The friend, Mario Juarez, claimed they stopped in Seligman, Arizona and he decided to drive the motorcycle. They would meet an hour away at the 76 gas station in Kingman. Mario said he waited at the station but Jonathan never showed up. The next morning the truck (and trailer) was located about an hour north of Kingman near the Hoover Dam. It was unlocked and out of gas.

Jonathan was nowhere to be found, nor was his wallet or the keys, despite heavy aerial and ground search efforts. Investigators assumed he must have hitched a ride away from the isolated desert highway. Family visited the gas station to review surveillance video, verifying that Jonathan had never stopped there. In order to reach the location the truck was found, however, required it to pass directly beside that 76 gas station. They noted that Mario did not seem in a normal mental state.

Years later, Mario made posts online claiming that he knew what happened to Jonathan and who was responsible. Originally the Mohave County Sheriffs Office and Arizona Department of Public Safety handled the case, but NAMUS now shows Maricopa Homicide as agency in charge.

<<It is believed that Hemer walked into the desert and either got a ride to Nevada or back to Arizona, DPS said.

Hemer reportedly has paranoid schizophrenia and a history of known drug abuse. He’s also without a cell phone and hasn’t contacted friends of family since leaving Austin, Texas earlier this week.>>

I have never been to AZ, so what I am asking may not make sense. I was looking at a map of AZ and it looks like there are two ways to travel from Seligman to Kingman, I-40 and Route 66. So if Jonathan was driving the truck that was found out of gas on Hwy 93 an hour north of Kingman, it doesn't make sense. The friend's story sounds fishy to me. The only way that makes sense, is if Jonathan totally missed the stop at the 76 gas station and for whatever reason drove through Kingman and kept driving north on 93. Wouldn't he have realized he #1 was supposed to meet at a specific gas station, #2 see that he probably was low on gas, or #3 call his friend if/when he couldn't find the gas station stop?

The friend's story doesn't make sense to me.

Your assumptions are very similar to mine. But a few things that might help clear a few questions, but only to question 5 more things (how I feel)
So Jonathan did not have a phone at the time.he had a tablet that only worked with WiFi . So he was unable to call without stopping someplace with free WiFi. As for him being low or out of gas, simply was not true, not sure why they included that false information. The keys were not there when truck was found and it had to be towed to another location to have new keys made, law enforcement never saw the truck “on” . Surprisingly it had gas, was low but not low enough. And last thing, Jonathan had never made this trip before, all these roads were new to him, if he wasn’t paying attention could easily pass up gas station and not think twice about it. He had no phone so no gps, not sure if he had a map or what.
Hopefully that answers some of your questions.
I know all I want are answers right now.
