From what I can tell by looking at maps (without knowing specifics)...it would have been quite a long, difficult hike for her to get to the canyon from her home, which implies her body was dumped. That along with the fact they locked the community down after her body was found means it was foul play, IMO. I will be surprised if she just accidentally wandered off. Hope we get an update soon and this is solved quickly for the family's sake.

Where are you seeing that she was found at a canyon? From everything I've read, LE hasn't released the location where she was found.

I see what you mean. From what I've been able to find, the Coalmine Housing area is a community with a population of 691 in the Navajo Nation. The community is sometimes referred to as Coalmine Canyon. The actual Coal Mine Canyon is in the area. I might be wrong, but I believe that Mollie was searched for, and found, in the community of Coalmine, AZ. It is the community of Coalmine, AZ that is on lockdown. We'll know for sure when LE is ready to tell us.

I drive through the Navajo Nation several times a year. This area is a major crossroads for people driving in the Southwest between AZ, CO, NM, UT. Although very isolated, there are many people passing through… and I mean literally passing through. Not much to do there and you want to make sure to drive through during daytime- not stop too long. It makes me wonder if FBI is looking at suspects outside the Navajo community.

The FBI gave information about where she was found:

The Federal Bureau of Investigation in Phoenix, Arizona, and the Navajo Nation Police Department are seeking information regarding the death of 8-year-old Maleeka "Mollie" Boone. On January 15, 2026, at approximately 6:00 p.m., Boone was reported missing from her neighborhood in Coalmine, Arizona, on the Navajo Nation. Boone left one family member’s home at approximately 4:15 p.m. to return to the home in which she lived. Both residences are in the same neighborhood and in close proximity to each other. Boone’s body was located in a field within the Coalmine neighborhood at approximately 8:30 a.m. on January 16, 2026.
