Monday, November 14th:
*Sentencing Hearing (@ 11am PT) – AZ – *Maribel Victoria Gonzales (13) (June 4, 2014, Tucson, found June 6, 2014, id’ed June 20, 2014) – *Christopher Matthew Clements (30 @ time of 1st crime/36/now 40) aka Damion James Johnson indicted (9/15/18) & arraigned & charged (9/24/18) with 1 count of 1st degree murder, 1 count of kidnapping a minor under 15 & 14 counts of sexual exploitation of minors. Plead not guilty. $2M cash only bond. DA will not seek DP.
Murder trial for Maribel began on 9/8/22 with jury selection (2 days) & trial started on Tuesday, 9/13/22 & ended on 9/28/22.
Jury: 9 women & 7 men (with 4 alternates). 9/22/22: Judge dismissed juror #9 due to illness. Jury: 8 women & 7 men (with 3 alternates).
State rested their case on 9/21/22. Defense began their case on 9/23/22 & rested on 9/28/22. Jury started deliberations (late) Wednesday, 9/28/22 (Day 1). Jury deliberations: 7 hours, 8 hours 9/29/22 (Day 2) & ~5 hours 9/30/22 (Day 3). Total: ~20 hours. Jury verdict guilty of all charges. Sentencing hearing on 11/14/22.

10/18/22 Update: Clements was convicted Sept. 30 of 1st degree murder & kidnapping in the death of Maribel. He was scheduled to be sentenced Wednesday, 10/19/22 in Pima County Superior Court, but the date has been moved to 11/14/22. Court officials also said Clements’ attorneys have filed a motion for a new trial & a motion for judgment of acquittal not withstanding the verdict. A 11/7/22 motion hearing is set for both motions. A judge also will hear testimony on 11/14/22 for a possible change of venue for Clements’ other murder trial, scheduled for 2/2/23 involving the death of Isabel.
11/7/22 Update: Pima County Judge James Marner rejected two motions by the attorneys of convicted child killer Clements. Denied a request for a new trial & judgment of acquittal notwithstanding the verdict. Clements will be sentenced at 11 a.m. Monday, 11/14/22. He faces up to life in prison without the possibility of parole.
*Isabel Mercedes Celis (6) (April 21, 2012, Tucson, found Mar. 3, 2017, Id’ed Mar. 31, 2017). Indicted (9/15/18) & arraigned & charged (9/24/18) with 1 count of 1st degree murder, 1 count of kidnapping a minor under 15 & 14 counts of sexual exploitation of minors. Plead not guilty. $2M cash only bond. DA will not seek DP.
Murder trial for Isabel set to begin on 2/2/23 for jury selection (2 days) & trial starts on Monday, 2/6/22 thru 3/3/23.
