I am much more of a reader, I am hesitant to say much and I am sure most will think any comparison is so lame. I live here in the are of Utah where Josh Powell (allegedly to be polite, most likely) harmed and did something with Susan Powell, and here we are all these years later, with all the information, though crazy as it was, no one to this day can find her body. 14 hours is a lot of time to do many things. If you span out 7 hours of time to go out and come back in any direction from point A to point B. It just seems so odd that there is not one piece of "known" evidence. I hope something is revealed soon.

There is nothing lame about your post at all, it's actually a pretty good comparison. The only thing we have going in our favor here is that it occurred in an inhabited area and there are bound to be witnesses.......somewhere. Here in Arizona, many people get up very early and get their day started. Due to the heat, many construction crews and highway crews will be on the jobsite by 5 or 6 in the morning and then take off around 2 in the afternoon when the heat peaks out. They will get up and start heading to work around 4 A.M. . There was bound to be people driving around in Maricopa that morning, even during those early hours.

In Josh Powell's case, he had the luxury of taking her out into an uninhabited area where there were no witnesses and nobody did actually see anything. The desert is such a vast place, illegal aliens have died trying to make it to Phoenix or Tucson and their remains weren't found for years in some cases. If a person was to deliberately hide a body, finding it could be almost an impossibility. That's what it is about all the dust on their car that is the most concerning to me.

Welcome on board, by the way.

And why wouldn't all theories be considered?
As much as I would like to believe that my own family does nothing wrong, I'm sure that there are things that even I may not know/have known.
I would consider all options just for the sake of hoping to find them alive.

I am a local and am only repeating what I've read on local forums and groups from people who know the couple. We have a few mutual friends, so I'm going off of their speculations as well.
The area is well known for heavy drug cartel influence and as sad as it is, anyone can get involved in that business if they are desperate enough (not that I'm saying this is the case though).

I too hope for their safe return.

Jessiewise, et al, your points are well taken and I do apologize if my comments offended anyone. It was not my intent in any way. I come to this forum mostly to just read and consider the alternatives many of you suggest because I do believe in this format for unsolved cases. I think that as I wrote my comment, I was maybe caught in an internal web of shame :blushing:; as I read comments here, I was reminded of a case from here in Iowa about 3 1/2 years ago (Sharon Hopf). I was going to offer a suggestion of that alternative, but got caught up in the comment before mine about how the family is beginning to show the toll this is taking. I guess its an aspect I really hadn't considered in any depth before.

I did look up the Racetrack Bar and Grill and their website bills them as a family restaurant and the home of a champion picker musician. I found that interesting.

For those of you who are curious, Sharon Hopf was around the same age as this couple, and she also disappeared while on her way to work. Later her car was found burned on an abandoned Missouri farm. In the end, she had staged her disappearance because of debt.

Jessiewise, thank you for stating your connection to the search. Its just nice to know that comments come from "our (wo)man on the ground," as old news reports used to say.

On NG last night the friend said they only have one car. I think the bank robber and Tina look very much alike. I'm wondering if NG will be covering this tonight. Perhaps there wil be some updated information.

Are they Sure of the correct heights for them?
Looking at them from the video, where they are on the beach together,(or wherever, with the water behind them) he clearly is way taller than her... Looks like he is more
than just 2 inches taller than her, to me...
IMOO.
Yet the article states:

"Michael, 44, is described as a white, 5 feet 10 inches tall, 180 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes.

Tina, 42, is white, 5 feet 8 inches tall, 140 pounds, with blond hair and brown eyes."

http://www.azfamily.com/story/29388582/search-underway-for-missing-pinal-county-couple

That's what I want to know... I'm 5'3" and my husband is 5'10" and our height difference is similar to that of the beach photo. I don't know where the got the height info but it could be a typo. I wonder if she wears heels a lot and maybe whoever gave the height wasn't thinking and said the height with heels or something. You never know...

From the time they left home until the report was called in was 14 hours. You can drive many many miles in a 14 hour span, and still be home in time for supper. It's going to be a local that did this.

Really good observation/comment. Too bad we can't somehow access maintenance records on the vehicle to get an idea of before/after mileage. Assuming police are looking into that.

I just caught up and may have to start over again from page 1! This is a baffling case.

Has there been any mention of cc/check banking activity? I know I haven't read all the news articles, lol...

And maybe it was their car driven which could be why it was dirty...

So no one thought it odd they didn't show up for work and/or meeting and they could not be reached by phone all day?

I think it's pretty safe to say they probably aren't in the surrounding area at this point. Every article I've read talks about numerous search teams heading out on ATV's to search for them. The searchers have numbered in the hundreds.

That part of Arizona is very barren and flat as a board.....a desert environment in every sense of the word, pretty much just cactus and sand. In most places, the visibility across flat land would be 5 miles or more, and with binoculars, make it 15. The way they have searched in the last 3 days and by saturating the entire area, if this couple had been marched out there and left for whatever reason, someone would have come across them by now.

I'm at a complete loss right now as to who would have abducted them or why, but unless they are being hidden away on private property, I'm pretty sure they would have been located by this time. I can think of 20 different things that may have happened to them, but the part that is puzzling me now is all the dirt and grime that was found adhered to the car. This is indicative of going out and running up and down dirt roads, and according to what I've read, apparently a whole bunch of them. That isn't the type of activity you normally do while driving a Honda Accord. All the main roads around there are paved although quite a few of the sideroads are still dirt.

A carjacking at 5 in the morning sounds unlikely, especially the carjacking of a moving vehicle. The idea that the car may have been taken and then dumped off later by some unknown persons is starting to seem more likely. The question would be, where and when did they take possession of the car and for what purpose ?

The fact that the car was left abandoned and covered with an overspray of dust is pretty unsettling, it leaves one with the impression that it was ran around out in the desert, and then driven back into the city limits and abandoned where it was found. The fact that it was found about a mile from their residence may prove to be a total coincidence, but I think there is a reason for it. Maybe it was an attempt to confuse the police as well as the people that would come searching for them.

Another theory, this couple stopped at a convenience store that morning to get coffee. They were carjacked in the parking lot and driven out into the desert at gunpoint. Where in the desert remains a mystery. The car is driven back into town and deserted where found. Why? Because it was within walking distance of where the perpetrator either lives or needed to be.

That area is notorious for drug running and human smuggling. The crime rate in the area is sky high due to that. This may prove to be one of those senseless, stupid crimes perpetrated by a couple of drugged out sociopaths.

A. I know this family - my son has known them for more than 10 years. B. This is not all flat desert. It's farm land, washes, canals, mountains. C. They were not in proper city limits. Again, it's farmland outside of the city of Maricopa. D. Only one road going through there is paved. The majority of them are still dirt roads. Please don't speculate as if you know the area. All you do is confuse people who don't know and upset the people who do. Also, from an earlier post, they do car pool because Mesa is quite a trek for them from Maricopa and it saves on fuel. The search is being centered from Raceway Bar and Grill because it's literally the only thing in the area open and has room for them to organize it at. This is out in the country. Not in a city where you can just pick a parking lot.

@CatsInTheCradle
I have been thinking about that too...the articles seem to imply that when they did not show up really early for some sort of meeting but I guess that is not what they mean, so hopefully they will reveal the time of the missed appointment.

I wonder if any of the residents in the area of the house or where the car was abandoned have security cameras...or businesses like gas stations etc that they may have stopped for gas, coffee etc.

Has it been reported anywhere when the last time was that anyone physically saw either Mike or Tina?

The only thing I have read in most of news stories is that the son and his cousin saw them at the home on Sunday night, and "family" are also the ones stating that they left around 5am on Monday but I dont think they saw them or they were not able to note what clothing they were wearing...I have not read of any eye witnesses for the 5am or anyone other than the son and cousin for the Sunday night ...

The timeline here is incredibly vague. So far, we have neither a defined starting point or a defined end point for the event that resulted in disappearance. An assumption is made that they left around 5AM. 911 isn't called until after 7PM. All we have is a dumped vehicle several blocks away that showed signs of off-road driving.

I wonder why the son or cousin thought they were missing. Couldn't they have had errands to run after work or eaten in town...any number of things why they might not be home. Were pets left unattended or did their coworker or boss call to let them know they didn't show up?

Years ago there were people near the area who had built underground bunkers for safety when the government tried to take over. I'm sure those are still there, and would be hard to find unless you knew exactly what you were looking for. Crops are growing now and it would be very easy to overlook something in a field or in brush growing. It is very easy to hide for something or someone to be hidden in the desert.
