What a sad state of affairs that this judge would secretly meet with the defense team of a vicious murderer. I wonder how she would feel if it had been her sister brutually murdered. I hope that this judge is recused; and I certainly hope that this murderer is put to death as soon as possible. Then, and only then, will justice be served.

Thanks nan. What Judge Silvia Arrellano also did this week was overturn her OWN ruling made months ago which disallowed certain "experts" for the defense to testify. She's now allowing them, at the last minute, to further sandbag the State. I think that gets Team Apelt up to something like 8 allowable "experts" and the State gets ONE.

I will tell you that it's not only MY opinion that this Judge has already made her decision in their favor and is doing everything she can to support it before the hearing even happens. It's unbelievably scary to have only one person making this decision who has some kind of obvious bias. I hope we find out today that she has been recused.

You know, I'm a democrat by fault, but I think in a lot of situations, especially this one, shouldn't even go back to court! Let's say this man is truly mentally retarded. Well then he was intelligent enough to con this poor woman he murdered for insurance money! Hell in my eyes, criminals aren't sane anyways. Why the hell hasn't this guy been put to death anyways? He was sentenced to death over 17 years ago. This makes me nothing but angry! Hell, why don't we start giving every prisoner a new personal computer per cell and a Starbucks in the mess hall? If it's not the jails lack of being more prudent, it's the court system....
 
Katie, do the judges in AZ maintain their judgeship (or whatever it might be called) via election? I am curious about this because this judicial activist is anything but impartial or just.

She knows they are not mentally retarded yet she is doing everything in her power to free these cold blooded killers. As a taxpayer, I am outraged that she is serving as a judge.
 
This is the judge who ruled (and thankfully was overturned by the AZ supreme court) to disallow testimony of the Apelt's actions and activity after they were 18 years old!! (The brutal murder occurred when they were in their 20's.) She also ruled (get this) that the GUARDS in prison could not testify to how the brothers have adapted in prison and the fact that there are TWO escape attempts!

This is so illogical and unreasonable I can't believe she even considered that argument in the first place!

Katie, I left a comment on the New Times webpage. I am hoping that many people read that article and express their outrage.
 
This judge should be reported to The Reader's Digest. They publish asinine rulings that judges make. Several idiotic judges are reported about each time they do a story....maybe it's a monthly feature...:waitasec: I don't read it enough to know. Maybe seeing herself in The Reader's Digest would jar this lunatic back to reality. :furious:
 
Katie, I am so sorry you are having to go through all of this again. What really freaks me out is the fact that because there was no "life sentences without parole" when they were convicted, they would not get LWOP, rather they could be paroled. Yet the laws that were changed more recently will allow them to claim they are now mentally retarded.

I am disgusted beyond belief that anyone would take this claim of his seriously. Katie, you will be in my thoughts and prayers, and I do so hope justice prevails for this monster!

Thanks for posting this AZLaw. Yeah, another ruling by the Judge against us and for the defense. One of MANY. My father had to cancel his prepaid trip to China to testify at this hearing. That article didn't really highlight that he HAS to be here..not that he "wants" to be. And he had to cancel it because the Judge's office screwed up and didn't give adequate victim notification as is the LAW. The law with no teeth basically.

We're still waiting on these rulings to know if this Judge will be recused or not. As the hearing starts Monday, we should know something by tomorrow.

So Katie..what is this judge's story? Why is she being so "helpful" what's going on behind the scenes?
