Suspect Fired at LE First?
Chandler officer dead after being struck by suspect in Gilbert "GILBERT, AZ (3TV/CBS 5) - A Chandler police officer is dead and a Gilbert police officer is in the hospital after a pursuit ended in Gilbert overnight."
@SaguaroSpirit. Thx for opening thread. From link:

"Gilbert police said the whole incident started in the Eloy area just after 10 p.m., when a Pinal County Sheriff's Office (PCSO) deputy pursued a vehicle. The deputy chased after the truck and the suspect started shooting at the PCSO vehicle."

I wonder if there's vid of suspect shooting first. Maybe from PCSO dash cam or body cam, or business surv cams or Ring cams?

Chandler officer dead after being struck by suspect in Gilbert

"GILBERT, AZ (3TV/CBS 5) - A Chandler police officer is dead and a Gilbert police officer is in the hospital after a pursuit ended in Gilbert overnight."

From your link:
The chase continued into Maricopa County, eventually into Chandler where the suspect drove into a gate at Chandler Regional Airport and onto the runway causing air traffic to stop. After leaving the airport, the suspect jumped out of his vehicle and ran into a car dealership near the Loop 202 and Val Vista and stole a vehicle, police said.

This makes absolutely no sense! Why would you flee from the cops, and drive up and onto an airport runway? Did he/she/they want a dramatic show-down? Has this perp been identified yet?

Long Chase.
IIRC chase started in Eloy AZ & continued to Chandler AZ, driving distance of ~47 miles (75 km for our non-US friends) driving distance, usu'ly taking ~56 mins.* Chandler airport to Gilbert, where chase ended is ~7 miles (~17 mins) further. Plus time to steal a car from a dealership.
Perp's initial action - running - may have been a hair-trigger decision, but seems like the Energizer Bunny, keeps going and going.
Like @shotgun09 asked, why. Maybe looking for a Wild West show-down.

IIRC, Eloy, Arizona was the last town in the USA to outlaw gunfighting in the street. This was in 1965!

Easy to speak lightly of this, certainly not of this officer's death.

RIP, Sir!
