Just try Tucson's dockets. grrr...bookings aren't that impressive either, but they get to taking care of situations here. It's been a long time since our local news has been on live since around 11am to 10:22pm here.

Investigators identified the gunman as Jared Lee Loughner, 22, and said that he was refusing to cooperate with the authorities and had invoked his Fifth Amendment rights.

Well this part of that article answers my question about whether he's been removed from the college by police;

Pima Community College said Mr. Loughner had been suspended for conduct violations and withdrew in October after five instances of classroom or library disruptions that involved the campus police.

The young girl who was a victim was a member of her student council. She's a martyr, IMO. She was doing exactly what we want our young people to do do. She was getting involved and asking questions. Bless her.

Gosh besides being horrific, now the gun issue comes out, the mental issue also. Guess we better all follow those issues and read up on them. I was lucky to find a gun similar to the shooters earlier as I don't know the names of guns but a few by shape or name. Mental issues I am studying. Both issues contributed to this tradgedy today.

Frankly, we have in every town mentally ill people, not diagnosed, or on meds that aren't taken because they forget or sell them, or over taken or needs adjusted. A SMI person needs watched sadly and thank you gef for your reminder. The political words and protest did not put words in this man's mind, he's mentally ill. Any word could set someone off with an unstable mind. It appears he was online that has soooo much to read. Sadly, this guy can't rationalize what he's done today I fear.

I heard on CNN today that the gun found was a 9mm Glock with an extended clip.

People: There is no excuse or blame to be placed on ANY public figure who may have a different political point of view for this random act of insanity.

This is a disturbed individual who caused a great deal of pain and anguish.

Let's not try to convolute into the equation our individual politics at this moment of great mutual tragedy and sorrow.

I'm just so terribly worried that those who are unstable might totally misread the subtleties or irony or even dark humor in announcements such as this. We surely don't want to censor our political ads but isn't this a bit like screaming fire in a theatre of extremely pyrophobic movie-goers? Until today, I honestly had NO idea just how much constant threat some of our elected officials must endure.

My hope is that we can somehow find a happy medium of discourse which has a strong component of safety built in for all members of all parties. This is a tragedy for each and every American tonight.

Our sheriff, Dupnik was against the immigration bill. This isn't political, this is a mentally ill person that hasn't been watched and has a bizarre rationalation of reality. He (the shooter JL) words are too bizarre to make him political or within a mind to understand what he was saying from what I've read today. JMO No excuse either. He is out there though to do this. It was premeditated from what I see, his downed myspace warned his friends and he said good bye and apologized. Another person severe enough & mentally ill enough to kill.

Scary. Politicians are foolish to connect to this and make it a political event right now. This is a mentally ill person. Hands down. Sick and so so sad. The 9 year old is just breaking my heart. All the families touched by this. Breaks my heart and too close to home. xoxooxox

FWIW, while I am not a pot smoker, I'm getting a little tired of hearing the gunman described as a "pot-smoking loner." That's about as relevant as a "chardonnay swilling eccentric", IMO.
