Foxnews just reported that Homeland security mentioned that the shooter was either a member or follower of some group called "american renaissance" Very anti semitic, anti-gov..

Here's the SPL's rundown of American Renaissance; http://www.splcenter.org/get-informed/intelligence-files/groups/american-renaissance

The Army rejected him...this coward didn't know what to do with himself.

I'm sure a lot of us could tell him what to do with himself.

The mom was just on Fox News (national) and gave a phone interview. Talked about how the daughter loved her country, school, was the only girl on a little league team. Didn't want to say what she wanted to happen to the shooter. So sad. Gorgeous little girl.

Warning. Some truth but it's political and not needed right now but hmmph.

After that, during her re-election campaign, protesters gathered on most Saturdays on the same corner shouting and holding signs that said things like “Gabby, You’re Gone.”

“On a typical Saturday this corner is filled with Tea Party protesters,” said Brenda Tyler, who was with her husband, Lyndon. “I’ve seen signs saying things like ‘It’s time to reload’ and ‘One way or another, you’re gone.”‘ A real estate agency in the neighborhood had a sign out front that said “Goodbye Gabby” and showed the silhouette of a witch on a broom,” she said. It had been taken down on Saturday.

One positive that I would love to see come out of this horrific event would be for the media (whether right leaning or left leaning) to focus on the issue of the erosion of respect in the media and in society.

This is soooooo close to my heart, my husband was shot in the head in AZ by an anti-government man.....but we were lucky, the shooter was killed that night!!!!!

These poor famlies have to go through the courts, and after the Sheriff's remarks....I had to wonder if he agreed with the shooter! This is NOT about race, which party you belong too, it's about the government or hate of the government! He bought a gun, he planned out what he was going to do, for the love of God he shot a 9 year old! He is not mentally ill, he's evil! Look at Tim McVeigh, Randy Weaver, David Koresh, William Cooper, and the list go's on and on! DON'T GIVE THIS GUY A PASS

On another note...

We all wish the best for Congresswoman Giffords. However...

"Despite being shot in the head with a bullet that went through her brain, it's entirely possible for Arizona Rep. Gabrielle Giffords to survive her injury, neurosurgeons believe -- though without knowing the trajectory of the bullet, they say, it's difficult to predict how fully she will recover."

Survival is one step. Full recovery is another. Please don't think I'm not wishing her a full recovery. I'm just wondering.

Re: James Brady

Brady, shot during President Reagan's tenure, was permanently disabled and was unable to continue as Reagan's press secretary. The bullet exploded the right frontal lobe of his brain.

The Brady shooting brings thoughts about returning to service. If Giffords cannot continue as Congresswoman, is there a provision in the Constitution, as there is for the President, for a replacement?

It seems to me in the past when a congressperson was killed, the governor of their state appointed a replacement. But I know when some have resigned, then they'd have a caucus to find a replacement.

She has a long, long road ahead of her. She is not out of the woods yet, by any stretch of imagination. She has a lot to conquer before she even gets into rehab, and then rehab will be long and arduous.

She is, and will remain in, my prayers, as are the rest of the victims and witnesses.

Brain injuries can be devastating to the victim, and everyone around them. My BIL sustained a head injury, and never did fully recover. It was a nightmare for everyone.

I really wish the best for her, and her loved ones during her recovery.

So the second guy LE is looking for, is he standing in the store smiling and watching the events unfold?

That really reminds me of an episode of the show Chase. Creepy.

I missed the presser but I gather that 10 patients at UMC. 1 critical and that is Gabrielle. Three in serious condition. One patient released. Gabrielle's surgeon was a surgeon in chaotic Iraq.

mankato--Thank you for posting the article about the heroic actions of Daniel Hernandez. The 20 year old college junior had just starting interning for Giffords last week. His quick thinking and calm actions most likely saved the woman's life.

We need to celebrate the fact that such a young man could be so brave (he went towards the gunfire) and in the blink of an eye, put other's safety before his own. In light of the fact that we're dealing with a young man who has committed evil acts, it's vital to remember how many truly good people are out there.

Bless that dear and kind young man.

Gabrielle was in surgery 38 minutes after shooting. Dr Reed says they got the Helis out and this place runs like a machine.

Sheriff presser in 7 minutes.

Crying so hard right now, I can't type.

One new facor I ran across is that Rep. Giffords is apparently Jewish. You have to wonder if that didn't figure into this perp's mind (or what he uses for one) as a motive. Lots of these groups toss around stuff about Zionists, etc.
I cannot escappe the idea that he didn't do this all on his own. How did he get there? Aren't there accounts about his being seen with an older person?

I usually post on a couple of political comment sites. Those today are unbelievable; all kinds of name-calling, posts in all caps, etc. I was hoping people might begin to learn something from this but at lest so far it is not evident.

The KOLD live feed for the Sheriff presser is a bust. Sounds like it's being transmitted via cell phone.

The FBI is speaking right now.
