I just heard an interview with Christina Green's mother on FOX and I am bawling right now! Her heartbreak is felt by us all.

May the murdered victims all RIP and I wish the injured victims a speedy recovery.

Thank you to all the heros who saved lives.

May justice be served for this unspeakable and senseless act.

God help us! I am praying hard for our country right now.

I think a lot of people think she's going to walk out of the hospital in a few days and resume her normal life... Unfortunately, that's likely not the case. People should continue to focus prayers on her recovery, as well as those of the other victims.

Just saw an update on CBS that said Gabrielle Giffords continued to respond to basic commands today, and was communicating via commands with doctors. She remains in critical condition, and Loughtner is expected to face formal charges in just a few hours.

You are correct, her recovery is likely to parallel that of Bob Woodruff (ABC newsman injured in war) and James Brady (Reagan press secretary) who both regained most of their former abilities but it did take years. This event is likely to change the course of her career and that of her husband, who was scheduled to take one of the last shuttle launches. Their lives and that of their children will be greatly changed. The others injured will also face many trials and I hope that the public will not focus only on the highly publicized victims, but also on the needs of all those injured and the families of those killed.

According to the on-line biographies of Rep. Giffords, she and her husband married in 2007, after meeting in China. They do not have children but she does have a very close family.

And yes, I noted the irony of Mr. Hernandez' actions, in light of the climate in AZ now. I would almost guess that he had some sort of medical training as he seemed to make some very wise choices. Before he approached Giffords, he checked the pulse on two others who were dead. He moved on as if trained in triage. And he stayed with her. That is vital as she was conscious, it sounds like at that point. She had a caring and steady hand on her.

She did surround herself with bright young men and women.

Thankfully! A cab driver who went into the store so the suspect could get change to pay for the ride.

Thanks, now we know how he got there. Does anyone know if he worked anywhere. He sounds like he dropped out of school,so what did he do all day? Where did he get money?

Has anyone seen anything about the shooter's family? Utterly nothing, no names, anything. Some accounts of encounters with him in post secondary classes but nothing about public school. Could he have been home schooled? I did hear that a school he was attending contacted his family to suggest mentaL health evaluation. I sort of wonder if he has had psychosis that was untreated.
We are in danger, folks. People in the media, talk shows and certain political figures need to cut out the flaming rhetoric. And I mean both sides..

I'm surprised Loughner was concerned about getting change for his cab ride. With his good-bye messages to his friends on his MySpace and such, it's pretty clear he didn't think he'd be walking away from this - one way or the other. Hmmm...

Here is a good NYTimes article about the marriage of Representative Gabrielle Giffords and Cmdr. Mark E. Kelly.

By JUDITH ANDERSON
Published: December 2, 2007

"“FRANK CAPRA would have had a field day with the life of Gabrielle Giffords,” Robert B. Reich mused as guests began to gather for the wedding on Nov. 10 of Representative Gabrielle Giffords and Cmdr. Mark E. Kelly.

Mr. Reich, the former Labor secretary, saw parallels in the breezy down-home sincerity of the films Capra directed and the lives of Ms. Giffords, 38, a Democratic congresswoman from her home state of Arizona, and Mr. Kelly, 43, a NASA astronaut and Navy pilot from New Jersey.

So after the ceremony, Mr. Reich was inspired to toast their spirit: “To a bride who moves at a velocity that exceeds that of anyone else in Washington, and a groom who moves at a velocity that exceeds 17,000 miles per hour.”"

Hernandez was a trained nurse. God bless him.

It is an interesting irony. MOO

If he was on a mission... he didn't want anything drawing attention to himself ahead of time. And that probably meant he needed to pay his cab fare...

I think it shows he was thinking clearly that he didn't do something like tell the cab driver to "keep the change" and instead went inside the store to get change. I'll agree he was on a mission, and didn't seem distracted. MOO

And, as is being reported here and there on the www and apparently on his own Facebook page, he is openly gay.

So, I say Double God Bless Him!!!

And, I hope that sends the WBC people into even bigger tailspins.
