I have my fingers crossed, too. Maria Mendez got identified and I think she has a chance of it too.

This case has haunted me ever since I stumbled upon it during my dives into the unidentified. Seeing the post-mortem photo was something, it still haunts me to this day. Reading the narrative of this case and the police reports make this case seem like no other, it's so sad.

While reading the original police report generously provided by fmw63 years ago, I noticed these two statements regarding the interview with the driver and the police call made after dropping Jane Tempe Doe behind the golf works store:

"THE CASSETTE TAPE OF THIS INTERVIEW WAS IMPOUNDED AS EVIDENCE ON 05-09-02 AT 1200 HOURS."
"A CASSETTE TAPE COPY OF THE 911 CALL WAS IMPOUNDED AS EVIDENCE ON 05-09-02 AT 1200 HOURS."

Do you think anyone can ask for a copy of these tapes' content through an FOIA to the Maricopa County Sheriff's or is this impossible since this case is still open?

Has Joaquina Aguilar been ruled out? I figure that it's possible that, since our Jane Doe said that she was kicked out, it could be possible that she may have been roaming the streets for a while before she met that guy?

Their height sorta matches up, considering she could have possibly grown an inch.
The weight is not too off
They look sorta similar
It also says that Joaquina's mother was concealing her, so that may explain why there was no missing report in Arizona if they were living there together, and that might be why her mom didn't report her missing from that state. I'm thinking the mother took the daughter to Arizona, considering Gardena, California is only a 10-hour drive from Tempe. I'm thinking they most likely got into an argument, leading to the mother kicking the daughter out of the home.

I can see it. have you tried submitting a potential match panel?
