Hey all! I actually grew up in this area. She is also around the same as I am potentially. I could possibly go check out a few year books at schools around the area. At 32nd st and Greenway she would likely attend Paradise Valley high school. But she is close to also attending North Canyon. If you need to look at school boundaries I would check out Paradise Valley Unified School Districts webpage I know they have their boundary page on there. Another key aspect although sounds a bit rude is that many of the girls in this area do have teenage pregnancies. Is there any evidence if she had a child or not?
32nd and Greenway is known as the "square" which basically encompasses Cave Creek to 32nd and Greenway to Bell Road. This area is highly populated with hispanics and illegal immigrants. This is a hotspot area for Sheriff Joe Arapaio's gang to pick up illegal immigrants. There is A LOT of drug traffic in this area and a lot of gang violence. And the sad thing is she could likely blend in very well to people.

Where she was found in Tempe on the other hand is a fairly nice area mostly college kids. So she was likely just thrown away which is a sad story.

I was just thinking the other day, trying to figure out which parts of Tempe would be predominantly Hispanic. That's little difficult with only the internet to work from.

That would be great though if you could check local yearbooks. Classmates.com has yearbooks, but none more recent than 1988. Often, the public libraries will have the yearbooks of the schools in their close vicinity. Schools are sometimes reluctant to allow adults on campus (if they have no connection to any of the students there) for obvious reasons. If you are willing to spend the time, I suggest you find the public library closest to the "square", and ask them if you can browse the yearbooks for 2000-2002.

Tempe like most of metropolitan Phoenix, has a lot of hispanic people. I live in Tempe now. Just by University and McClintock. If you need maps or anything I am here.
But to your question, North Tempe is mostly students and working class individuals with families(many Hispanics) there is a few Hispanic food stores as well (Food City).But take into consideration North Tempe has many homeless people and many our drug addicted and are beggars. But there is also a food pantry not far from where she was found at the Escanlante Cente which many family and homeless people go to. Since she was going to buy concert tickets I would likely say she was going to Marquee Theater. Marquee for many of their shows you have to buy the tickets at the venue.
And South Tempe does not have the same amount of Hispanics this is a pretty white washed area filled with middle to high class individuals. And is pretty close to Chandler/Awautukee( I know this is spelled wrong but its hard!)

But back to the North Phoenix stuff. I actually worked for Paradise Valley School district. I know they keep a record of all of their yearbooks so I may just call in and see if I can look at them.

Another aspect I wanted to bring up was the Native American population. North Phoenix does not have many Native Americans but those that are are usually close to their community.
We have many tribes- Apache, Hopi, Navajo. (just look at our counties half of them are named after tribes). But in Scottsdale(a town in between Tempe and Phoenix) there is a tribe called the Salt River - Pima Indian community so she may have family in that area. This area is just like any reservation and some homes do not have the same quality of life as their Phoenician counterparts across the 101.

Also it may need to be noted that she could be a high school drop out, but legally in Arizona she would need to be 16. I thought that may be of some use to you to know.

Basically if you post a picture it can almost guess who the person is. So I may ask the yearbook cordinator at North Canyon if I can use this for the 2000-2001 and 2001-2002 year book.

JMO I'd check back a year or 2 before she died, since it's likely that if she was battling a drug addiction, it's likely she wasn't attending school regularly. But as she was only 15, I doubt the addiction went back terribly far, so perhaps she'd appear in the year book prior to that year.

Having said that, I graduated with a girl who battled a cocaine addiction all through school and you'd have never known it, so anything is possible.

Definitely, thank you! I was also thinking about asking around to people I know who grew up in that specific area( I was close but not in the square). For yearbooks.
I also was thinking, many of the girls out here especially hispanic girls looked a lot older than what they were due to finding a boyfriend. So I may just check through my yearbooks in middle school because they were doing drugs then and she likely could of been going to either my middle school or Greenway. Knowing now that I have access to both because of a friend.

Okay so I got a hold of some yearbooks from both North Canyon and Paradise Valley high school. years 1999-2002.
I am now complying a list of Hispanic females and also Native Americans, with that I am going to search to see if they have a facebook or myspace to see if I can find them. If not they go on my list to look further into.

Through the yearbooks have definitely been an issue. I am roughly down to 200 potential girls that I couldn't find on facebook or myspace.

Lastly, I was thinking of actually putting up fliers in the square which is around 32nd and greenway.

Happy Holidays from the hood! I did some flyering over in the square. But they all have been torn down(within 6 hours). Mind you the harassing of some of the neighbors. URGH. Someone knows something... and I don't like it!

My gut feeling on this is that she and her family were here illegally and thats why no one has come forward! It's a shame that no one appears to be willing to even give an anonymous tip containing her name and background. Cases like this make me so sad. Her life choices (drug use) shouldn't preclude her from being buried with some dignity and her name. I am curious still about the stains on her pants- nothing seems to be in the police report on what they found them to be.

I think its extremely likely maybe her family does know but can't do anything because of legal status. And out here once they find out you are- your back on a bus.

Image of Unidentified Victim Released

TEMPE - Police need help identifying a woman who died 10 years ago and was never identified.

Computer technology was able to reimage the victim as she would’ve appeared while living. They are releasing the photo in hopes it will lead to the woman’s identification.

The Jane Doe was found dead in a parking lot of a business at 1850 E. University Drive about 5:30 a.m. on April 27, 2002.

A new composite photo has been released. Carl, the picture that you posted in the thread was very close to this, well done.
