SUN LAKES, AZ - Authorities are investigating after human remains were found in the Southeast Valley.

According to the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office, detectives were excavating an area at a business in Sun Lakes near Arizona Avenue and Riggs Road.

A spokesman said the remains had been positively identified as human, but more details were still under investigation.

Sometimes reporting is not very thorough and leaves out some details.
Was LE digging on their own or after receiving a tip?
Or, more likely, it sounds like some workers found some bones while they were digging on a site and contacted LE who came out and began searching for clues and possibly more bones.

It seems unclear at this time how the remains were found. JMO. Hopefully LE will be forthcoming with more info soon.

I pulled a screen shot from that article. It's not very big or very clear but it looks like they're digging in one of the concrete partitions. The business is identified as a materials and supply company, so I'd guess they're bins for holding different grades of gravel or dirt or other fill material. (ETA: does that mean the remains might have been brought in with the fill from somewhere else?)

I think this is the location.

Crews with Grand Materials found the remains near Riggs Road and Arizona Avenue just before noon last Thursday, MCSO said.

Detectives said they haven't been able to identify the remains.

The person the remains belong to is described as a white or Hispanic woman, between 20 and 45 years old, 5-foot-4 to 5-foot-6, has black hair and was wearing a pair of sweatpants and a tank top.

BBM. I guess that answers our earlier question. This is such a general description, I hope they have more that could id her.

PHOENIX — The Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office is asking for the public’s help in identifying human remains that were found at a worksite in Chandler last week.

Sgt. Joaquin Enriquez with the department told KTAR News 92.3 FM that employees with Grand Materials and Supply in Chandler called the department after finding possible human remains at their worksite on June 21.
...
Vanegas said the remains are believed to be of a white or Hispanic woman with black hair between the ages of 20 and 45 and between 5’4″ and 5’6.” She was also believed to be wearing sweatpants and a tank top at the time of her death.

I was wondering about Jamie, but it doesn't sound like these remains are that old.

Christine Mustafa. I think that's how you spell her name. Her husband was accused of killing her. They never found her body. They lived close to Paradise Valley. About 30 minutes away. I know we have a thread here for her.

I immediately thought of Christine too... the initial description generally fits... Her poor family - they need this if it is her.

That looks pretty far, unless the remains were brought in with a load of materials from somewhere else.

Yeah. You can take mostly freeway to get there and it would probably take about 35 minutes. I know they've searched several places close by but they also looked in Buckeye which is about the same distance away in the opposite direction.

Sounds like a possibility then. She does seem to match the general description.

there are certainly other possibilities for who this is, but on one hand, it would bring relief from searching if it is CM... Regardless, so very sad. No one deserves to end up where or how she did.

Wow, yeah, though I guess they never did say whether the remains were recent. Just kind of assumed that from the description.

Rest in peace, Ms. Laiaddee.
