I have worked with young women like this, and just don't understand how they think.

1. They like being pregnant, the attention, being treated special?
2. They just don't bother with birth control?
3. They think that having a baby, means that the baby will love them?
4. They see having children as a "status" symbol? Larger public housing apartment?

Why didn't this young woman just get up, walk away? Leave the kids. Why didn't she give them up for adoption?

I just couldn't ever understand why a young woman, with no job, no education, would have baby after baby...I have met these gals, six, eight kids, all different Daddies....most of them do meth, and live a life of revolving door from treatment facilities, to public housing, jail, back to treatment...their kids are usually in foster care, or with their parents. Or dead.

These gals literally have zero interest in working. Or improving their lives.

Henry's mother died in 2018. Family members of her fiancé said Henry was deeply affected by the death. Both she and her fiancé became addicted to meth, according to family members and friends in Oklahoma who spoke to reporters with The Oklahoman.

In 2018, the children were placed in Oklahoma Department of Human Services custody due to an unsafe home environment because of domestic violence and substance abuse by both parents.

Mom accused of killing her 3 kids was struggling with loss of mother, drugs

Poor Henry. Yeah, when my mom died, my partner and I decided we would both (both) do meth and kill the children (who, by the way, were my money ticket, err el stupido). We were hurting real bad. Girl's gotta eat. kwitm. It's all every one else's fault. I had to eat, but damn, those kids were too much work.

I don't think anyone is saying she is not responsible for her actions. But as we discuss on almost every thread here, happy healthy people do not murder their (or other people's) children. It is natural to look into what causes someone to act in a certain way. Why did she keep having children if she was using drugs? Why didn't CPS remove the children permanently?

Three kids under three is an enormous responsibility and a lot of work for even the most dedicated mother with a great support system. Why did someone with (according to LE) no ties to Arizona rapidly have three children? We can all agree that someone is responsible for their actions while still thinking about and discussing why it happened to hopefully prevent it from happening again.

Contrariwise, unhappy and unhealthy people also do not murder their children. She's scum and I don't care why she did it. As far as CPS, this is exhibit A why the gov't shouldn't be in charge of important things. jmo

Rachel Henry: 5 Fast Facts You Need to Know | Heavy.com
[...]

The children have been identified by the Maricopa County Office of the Medical Examiner as Zane Henry, Mireya Henry and Catalaya Rios. Family members told police the children had been ill earlier in the day, a police spokesperson said at a press conference.

[...]

Henry had previously lost custody of her son and daughter because of her issues with drug addiction, a prosecutor said in court on Tuesday, KTVK-TV reports. ...

Henry lived in the Phoenix home with the 30-year-old father of her three children and a 49-year-old woman who is referred to in court documents as Henry’s aunt and the homeowner. Police were still interviewing them, but do not believe they were aware that the children had been killed until the 911 call was made, according to court documents.

[...]

Phoenix Police responded to a 911 call at 2520 East Vineyard Road about 7:20 p.m. on January 20, 2020, according to court documents. The caller, an unidentified female, told police three children were dead inside the home. Officers, firefighters and EMS personnel arrived and determined the kids were deceased.

One of the other adult residents of the home told police the children had last been seen alive at 2 p.m. ...

[...]

Police said in the probable cause statement, “Rachel admitted to smothering each child starting with the one-year-old female.” ...

Police said the 3-year-old boy tried to help his 1-year-old sister by punching Henry, “to no avail.” Henry told police she knew she had killed her daughter “when she stopped kicking” her. Henry said she chased the 3-year-old boy and was interrupted when someone arrived back at the house. Henry told police she spent time playing with the boy and took him into a back bedroom where she changed his underpants.

According to police, “As Rachel did so, she placed the 3-year-old male on the floor of the bedroom, straddled him with one of her legs and placed her hand over his nose and mouth. Rachel described singing to the 3-year-old male,” as he scratched her chest and pinched her. She told police she used her weight on top of him to smother him until he died, according to the affidavit.

[...]

... Rachel sang to the 7-month-old female until she became unconscious and died. Rachel placed all of the children in a position on the living room couch as if they were taking a nap. Rachel did not tell (redacted) or (redacted) what happened.”

[...]

One of Rachel Henry’s family members told police she had a methamphetamine addiction and “had been acting strange the past several days,” according to court documents.

[...]

Fortune said she did not know if the mother had provided a reason for harming the children and she said that would be part of the ongoing investigation.

[...]

According to her Facebook page, Rachel Milan Henry is a native of San Diego, California, but graduated from Prague High School in Oklahoma. ...

Henry studied to be a certified nursing assistant at the Gordon Cooper Technology Center in Shawnee, Oklahoma, according to her Facebook profile. Henry is unemployed, a Maricopa County prosecutor said in court.

[...]

Phoenix Mayor Kate Gallego issued a statement on the triple homicide, saying, “Yesterday our city’s public safety officers responded to the scene of a heartbreaking triple homicide. Three innocent children lost their lives. This atrocity defies the realms of one’s worst nightmares. Our thoughts are foremost with the victims and their family members as they navigate this painful and complex time.”

[...]

... According to The Arizona Republic, Henry mumbled softly to the judge during the court hearing. She asked, “I’m not getting released?” after learning her bond had been set at $3 million. ...

[...]

Henry does not appear to have a prior criminal record in Arizona or Oklahoma. She is scheduled to return to court on January 31.

Oh my God. I wish I hadn't read the details. I feel like I'm going to be sick. Bye everyone. Taking a break from ws. I'll be lifting those poor babies in prayer.

So where are their men? Why are you blaming this all on women or 'gals'? Women don't get pregnant by themselves.

Unless she was raped (which there's no indication she was), whether or not to become pregnant was 100% in her control. That's why. Is her "fiance" to blame for what happened after that? Yep. But those poor babies wouldn't have existed but for this heinous excuse for a mother's bad decisions. jmo

You know, that is interesting, mostly, the men didn't stay around, or they were in jail. When I worked with these gals, they were in a treatment program. Most of them diagnosed with Borderline Personality Disorder.

I am not "blaming" men. But Women do get pregnant, there is birth control, abortions, adoption, a myriad of choices and options to not be "stuck" with a baby. But, these gals, seem to want to have the children, even though they don't take very good care of them. They think that they are great Mothers though. It is really interesting, they are so similar.

I stopped doing that work, because the ongoing goal of helping these women keep their kids was crazy to me. I couldn't stand it another day.

Why do I get the feeling from this that the deceased (grand)mother was primarily raising the now-deceased children?

Truth. I worked as a guardian ad litem in one of the worst cities in the country. The way these cases are handled is almost evil from the perspective of the poor children.

Someone would have to have been for them to survive this long with that "mother"

Noting:
  • A Facebook page from Henry's 30-year-old fiancé said the couple became engaged in May 2019. He shares a last name with only the youngest child, and it's not clear if he is the father of all three.
  • The middle child, Mireya, would have turned two next week. :(

Also noting:

Oberman, who wrote two books on the subject of filicide, said many of the women who commit these murders are often isolated in their motherhood and mental health issues or previous trauma. They may not have anyone to turn to for help and spend long hours alone with the children.

Henry's reported drug problems may have further aggravated any existing issues, Oberman speculated. The isolation of moving to a new place and the desperation that comes with having no money or job would only make matters worse.

[...]

Dr. Carol Olson, chairwoman of the psychiatric department for Valleywise Healthcare, said Henry's history of methamphetamine may have also been a contributing factor. Olson has not treated Henry, but noted sudden psychosis is a possible side effect of methamphetamine usage.

In some cases, such murders may occur as the culmination of postpartum psychosis. Postpartum psychosis affects only a small percentage of mothers who have recently given birth, it causes delusions and hallucinations. The delusions often have to do with a fear that the child will be harmed by someone else and the mom has to kill them to protect them.

[...]

Police reports said Henry tended to her children between the killings. She allegedly changed her son's underwear and fed her youngest. These actions may give some insight into her state of mind at the time.

"I think people can do a lot of horrific things and mentally cope with that by disassociating and separating their mind doing the day-to-day stuff from the part of the mind that remembers the actions they took," Olson said. "However, it doesn't seem like she was disassociating as it seems she retained memories of what she's done by confessing. On the other hand, it may have been acceptable in her mind if she was delusional."

[...]

"What I've learned over time is there's blood on more than one hand," Oberman said. "There's usually more folks who knew and turned a blind eye to the idea that there was a struggle there. It's amazing to me how many warning signs there were and how hard people worked to look the other way."

Great-aunt of kids killed in PHX 'had no idea about murders'
The great-aunt of the three young children killed inside a Phoenix home Monday says she can't begin to understand how their mother would be capable of murdering all three kids.

[...]

90

PR lives in the home with her husband. She said her nephew, the kids' father, and Henry were staying at the home with the three kids. She said Monday, Henry told her she was going to put the kids down for a nap.

“Why didn’t I know? I don’t know. How did I not notice? I don’t know," said PR. “I can’t imagine what made her do that to the babies...I can’t imagine what made her do that, how could she do that? She’s the mother. She took their lives."

[...]

“Even people who use drugs don’t kill their kids. You know? I mean, it’s not a good thing but who does that?" said PR.

[...]

There is a vigil planned for 7 p.m. Wednesday. PR said she plans on speaking.

I hope that she doesn't get off with some sort of mental health disorder. Doing Meth is the problem.

Aunt of 3 kids allegedly killed by mom in Phoenix home speaks out

  1. RH allegedly told PR that she would put the children down for a nap while the woman picked their father up from work around 2 p.m. Monday.
  2. RH smothered the 1-year-old to death first. She allegedly smothered the other two children after PR and the kids' father got home, saying she was changing the 3-year-old and feeding the infant.
  3. “I know it’s hard to believe, but we were here throughout – as she killed our kids. We were here," Rebolledo said.
  4. "Now I know, I should’ve took three more steps into the room to see that she had Miraya in the closet, instead of putting away the clothes like she told me. She said she was putting away some clothes in a bag and I said OK and I walked out the front door.”
  5. On the day of themurders, PR said she and RH went to pick up a pizza, after RH smothered the children and placed them on the living room couch as if they were napping.
  6. "She killed her kids," PR said. "She killed the two kids first and they were taking a nap and then went – rolled with me to go get a pizza.”
  7. When they returned home PR first noticed the baby wasn't breathing so she began to give her CPR and called 911. That's when she looked over and noticed the other two children weren't breathing either.
  8. After officers arrived on scene, PR said she told them that she thought RH had accaccidentallyerdosed the children.
  9. "She is always giving them medicine, even if they weren’t sick."
  10. PR said the kids had been living with her for about a year and that she had temporary guardianship of them at one point, but that nothing was done through the legal system.
  11. She said the children were more happy with her than they were with RH, and that RH did not have to be there and take care of them.
  12. "She could've walked away at any time, I would've been happy to take care of them," PR said.
  13. The night before the alleged murders, PR said RH was staring at the infant while she was eating and it made the baby so uncomfortable that she stopped eating.
  14. PR said she keeps replaying that night over in her mind, but for now she only has one goal: To get the children back to Oklahoma.

"KJRH spoke with one of Henry’s 13-year-old friends who would like to remain anonymous due to the backlash she has been experiencing through social media, by having known Henry. We will call her “Reese.”

“We met in science class. She was one of my first friends [at the school],” said “Reese”.

“Reese” shares that Henry was like any other teen growing up and that she also struggled with peer acceptance.

“She was fun to be around. She was very smart, and she loved art. She had great grades and she was funny. She was a great friend when she wanted to be. She was very big on boys and attention. She would pay guys to go to the dance with her and bring bags of candy to school, so she could offer it to [guys]. She wanted their attention, even if they were dating her friends. Rachel did not know her self-worth,” said “Reese”.

KJRH asked “Reese” to describe Henry’s family and what her home environment was like.

“Her mom and dad gave her a lot of attention and loved her so much. They would do anything she wanted them to. She lost her dad at the beginning of high school. Rachel’s dad was sick. That made things a bit rough for her,” said “Reese”.

“Reese” also told KJRH that she saw signs of Henry’s violent behavior early on.

“Rachel would say violent things, [like] talking about hurting or hitting people. If a kid in the cafeteria made her mad by cutting in front of her or bumping into her or if someone annoyed her, [she would react]. Rachel was always playing around aggressively with her mom to where she would hurt her, and her mom would have to tell her multiple times to chill out and stop. Rachel did the same with some of her friends. She would get mad or irritated out of nowhere and act as if she was wrestling around and hurt them. When [her friends] would raise their voice and say that she was hurting them by squeezing them tightly, digging her nails into them, she always wore fake nails, or hitting them, she would just say she was [just] messing around and to quit being a baby or stop being sensitive,” recalled “Reese”.

When I first read how RH fed, changed, or sang to her three children before smothering them I wondered if she was in the middle of a psychotic episode but after learning that RH killed her children while her husband and his aunt were all in the background doing normal stuff I believe RH did everything to appear as was normal between her and the children. She even went so far to pose all three of the babies on the couch as if she was watching over all of them while they napped.

Her actions are indeed mindboggling. So sorry for the paternal aunt/homeowner.

MOO
