Bahamas - Fariba Amani, 47, missing from cruise ship, 29 Feb 2012

  • #241
I completely agree. I think that any video available on the island needs to be looked at. Any areas that she may have walked by to see if she was caught on video anywhere on the island before they left. Videos get recorded over sometimes as soon as 2 weeks later. I hope that someone has been requesting and looking a videos.

We also don't know what type of cruise they chose. Do we know what day they got on the cruise? Did they only sign up for the one day tour of the Bahamas or a day at the beach? Or did they sign up for the cruise where they'd stay two nights at the resort in the Bahamas and catch the ship going back the next time. Big difference as to what was happening with luggage etc.

Thanks for the posts about what they did. There is no comedy club on the ship, but comedians are part of the show at The View, which is also a night club with dancing. It sounds like the comedy show would be earlier than 11 PM since the venue turns into an adult night club later in the evening.

My impression is that the comedy show would have ended at 10 ish, perhaps 11. Perhaps they stayed at the club until 1 AM.

"You'll find entertainment at its finest in our stylish club, The View. This spectacular two-level room venue is the perfect place for incredible live entertainment, fantastic live music and an all-night dance party! It's sure to become your hot spot. The enjoyable after-dinner shows will appeal to family members of all ages. The shows are constantly changing with talented singers, dancers, comedians, magic and acrobats performing amazing fears. Afterwards, it's time for the adults to party - because once the music starts pumping, everyone hits the dance floor."

It doesn't make sense to me. I suspect the comedy ended at 11. Perhaps then she went to the gift shop and he went to the casino. Then perhaps at 1 AM he looked for her and couldn't find her. Do we have anything else on the timeline? Did he decide to just forget about her and go to sleep at 1 AM when he didn't find her at the gift shop?

I posted about that earlier Otto. There was more action going on after that supposed comedy show at 11pm. I read about the dancing on a review. So where were they for those 2 hours? Were they at the dance? How many times did the boyfriend need to head to either the casino or up on deck to have a cigarette? Did he make sure Fariba was with him every time or did he leave her in The View alone to wait for him to return? Not sure what kind of smoker he is and how often would he go to one of the smoking areas to have one.

There is an area on the back of the ship that is of some concern to me. In some pictures it is called The Terrace. It looks like a lounge type area for sunning during the day. Can't imagine it would be very busy at night and the railings look very low without that extra horizontal barrier.

In this link it's called the Ocean Breeze deck....

If you look at where that flag is situated on the ship in this link...

It appears as though this deck is right at the back of the ship.

Up thread HE said, they went to a comedy show and left arounfd eleven IIRC

Whether it was in a comedy club or if it was a comedy show , i certainly don't know

There are very few MSN reports about their trip, so we are working with very little

But reports state the show was over OR they left at eleven

Here are a couple of other shots of the rear of the ship ... it looks to me like there are safety wires going up quite high ... high enough to prevent anyone from going over board. I would expect that it would be a design consideration given how many people disappear from cruise ships.

Thank you. So I get the impression the comedy was finished at 11 and then she went to the gift shop while he went to the casino. At 1, perhaps when the casino closed, he looked for her at the gift shop, couldn't find her and then simply went to sleep. That sounds very odd, but I suppose that's his story.

Maybe he hit her and disabled her then picked her up and pushed her over the rail on the back of the ship ... could that be possible?

I briefly looked into ocean currents ... the ocean depth there is 2000 feet. I don't think there's much chance that she would wash up on any shore.

You would think in this day and age all these ship would have security cameras, even if just dummy ones, all over the outside areas to thwart this kind of crime.

No...I believe he said he left her at the gift shop at 1am while he went to the casino. When he returned to their room (no time given) she hadn't returned from the gift shop but he went to sleep anyway.

It's the terrace in the first picture that I'm referring to Otto. The second picture is the deck above that and is the kid's zone so it makes sense why the higher barriers are there.

The rails on that terrace appear to be only waist high. Here's another view of it from the side...

I would hope so! So many women disappear on cruise ships.

It would certainly not be difficult to push someone over the edge of those railings, maybe, just maybe it could have been a 3rd party?.

That doesn't make sense. I'm not disputing that he said it, but it doesn't add up for me. The comedy show was most likely finished by 11, so we have a 2 hour window that's unexplained. Maybe they danced until 1 and then he left her at the gift shop, but then when did he return to the room? What was their plan ... that she would go to the gift shop and meet him in the room? If so, when she wasn't in the room, why didn't he leave a note and then look for her?

It seems that if they'd been dating for 8 months and had an up/down relationship, they knew what to expect from each other.

Do we know if this was the first time that they'd traveled together?

Thanks. Absolutely. If that's the railing at the back, top deck, then it would be very easy for someone to go over the edge and no one would be the wiser.

That's the whole point Otto. Nothing he has said makes sense about that evening. And another thing that doesn't make sense to me is why this couple from BC was booked into a cheapy two day cruise on a converted ferry from Palm Beach to Freeport. The flight alone to get to Palm Beach would have been 10-14 hours of travel time. Seems like a waste for 2 days on a converted ferry with not so great reviews. I'd like to know when this cruise was booked. Because if someone were going to plan to do something to someone on a cruise ship, this would be a perfect choice. It's not like he had to spend a whole week pretending to get along and a whole lot of money on this "adventure".

I asked helenbee earlier if they had incorporated this cruise into a longer Florida vacation in which case perhaps that would make sense. I don't think she's had a chance to find out about that. But we do know that the boyfriend hightailed it right back to Canada as soon as the FBI was done questioning him.

I think I have the answer to why they were booked onto the cruise. There are phone calls that people get claiming "you have just won a free cruise in Florida". All you have to do is pay blah blah blah, fly to and from Florida, and it's free. Perhaps they fell for this "prize".

So the show and the casino are at opposite ends of the ship, with the gift shop halfway between but 1 deck lower.. did they part company at the show, arranging to meet at the gift shop?,because I cannot imaging her wanting to wonder around the ship for an hour or two on her own. And why the gift shop which would have been shut at that time?.
