thank you!!! i know people who will say im racist (even though my best friend is puerto rican) because im against ILLEGAL immigration. it's SO frusterating. then again, extremes on EITHER side of any issue tend to be extremely hard on us moderates!

im really against 3 main groups of people:
1) the illegal immigrants that are here committing crimes (im against all PEOPLE that commit crimes. but often the illegals will just be sent home rather than face trial ... only to re-enter the U.S. illegally!!)
2) the businesses in the US that hire mass amounts of illegal immigrants, paying them below minimum wage rather than hire US citizens. i just think its despicable the living conditions some organizations force upon their employees, legal or illegal.
3) the Mexican government who actually encourages their own to come to the US. and the ones that they encourage tend to be the ones they don't feel like dealing with ... the poor and the criminals. how tragic that a government should lack motivation to take care of their own!

Honestly, for the most part I have nothing against the majority of the individuals illegally crossing -- they really are just looking out for themselves and their families. I wish they would do it through legal means, but that is also a VERY VERY lengthy process.

I just wanted to say it is mostly not a lengthy process but an impossible one. Almost all people of working age are denied Visas from Mexico. You can not even adopt a child from Mexico because it is so hard to get them a Visa to come here. Usually only elderly people are given Visas or educated people who they do not think will stay here are allowed Visas. If it was that easy, people would come here legally but the truth is it just isn't.

Once we factored in the lawyer, the tests, the paperwork and all that, we're looking at close to $5000. That's for my soon to be husband and his daughter. It will probably cost us more than that when it's all said and done. I tried to handle it myself without a lawyer and I just can't do it. One little snafu on my part and we're in deep trouble. I don't think I've ever been this discouraged or scared in my whole life. It's not an easy process, it's very costly and it really takes a toll on one after a while. Most days, I want to scream at somebody. Enough of my whining, this woman didn't deserve this no matter where she came from.

Yes, it is all immigration cases, Mexico just happens to wait longer. As far as your particular case, you really shouldn't need a lawyer unless you are a having a problem. Immigration lawyers charge outrageous fees for things you can handle without them, they do nothing to speed up the process. I have been going through this process for 10 years with my step children....I have spent over $10,000 without a lawyer. LOL..we thought we were finished and then they requested DNA testing.:bang: Hopefully, they will be here by next month.

Wow people who also know what myself and my husband are going through. We have been married for 10 years, have two kids. Our immigration lawyer had us file for removal and we paid all the fees, then he told us to wait that the law was going to change and it was safer not to leave the country. Now we have to pay the fees all over again, $1200 lost. We also paid him 2500 retainer fee. We then had to get a criminal lawyer because his driver's license # and SS do not match, well duh, and he was arrested for false ID. So now we have a criminal case we have to get dropped or he will never be able to be legal here. We paid first criminal lawyer 5000 then he didn't show up for court and was giving us horrible advice. Had to fire him and hire another lawyere 5000 more. We are up to about 15 grand now on lawyers and there are no guarantees. We are waiting for a day in immigration court right now.

We didn't set out to have it that way, we didn't want that. We still don't want that. But, as I learned, it only takes one mistake and you're SOL. The same thing happened to my sister-in-law, except she was issued a social security number but SSA issued the number to two people. So...$10,000 later her lawyer got the charge dropped to a misdemeanor, because she was still in possession of it. :waitasec:

So true about being SOL...even if Immigration makes a mistake you still have to hire an attorney to fix it. If he's on a K-1 you should be able to get it extended while you get everything sorted out. Good luck...:blowkiss:

No kidding. The mexican govt LOVES sending citizens over here to earn money to (hopefully) pump back into their economy.

I've looked into emigrating to New Zealand, to do this, I have to have a skill that they need.

LOL...well at least you are in a country where you can gain the skills to attain a position they need.

Yes.. I am aware of the quota system. Mexico fallls under a per country quota, which is unfair given it's size. Only China, India, and Mexico fall under these quotas. That means if there are unused visa's in the visa quota, they can't be given to people from these countries if they have exceeded their per country limit. These limits are usually around 7% of the annual immigration population, so they are very small. They could just as easily do away with the per country quotas. This would speed up the process significantly.

It's terrible what happened to her, but she's here illegally. This country is so screwed up, and something has to be done. I think they need to completely close the borders, and then process everyone who's here. My family immigrated to this country and became US citizens, however, they did not "sneak" in illegally.
