GUILTY Bali - Bali Nine, Australians arrested for heroin trafficking, 2005

I guess he didn't explain why they did not arrest the smugglers when they arrived back in Australia from Bali, did he? Even though they had put high alerts on their passport statuses. (Unless I missed that somewhere.) That has been the big question all along. Let them get on the planes, arrest them here.

It truly sucks ... truly, truly, truly. But what is done is done now. May they never EVER do that again!!!

I wish we had a full transcript, because it went for quite a long time and I know I missed a lot and media hasn't published it all. I don't know other than the main investigation happened in Indonesia, and it needed to be that way to be able to arrest the main ringleaders ie MS and AC, and they (ie Indonesia) wanted to maintain control of the case and the drugs, I mean once they gave them the information it wasn't really an Australian case anymore, and at that stage ie before they got on the plane to go over they didn't even have a case .. so the case developed over in Indonesia, and the AFP had to give them the information to make that possible .. and of course once that happened the AFP lost control. The blame lies with the drug traffickers in this case however, not in the police who worked on the case. It was interesting to see that it wasn't the information from Scott Rush's father > lawyer that had any influence, I'm glad they cleared that up, look forward to the senate inquiry and more information too however.

ETA they brought in the Indonesians so that they could find out who the ringleaders were, they didn't even know about MS at that stage .. also they had concerns the mules would pass on the drugs before they could take them into custody here, hence the decision to bring the Indonesians into the case.

SkyNews now.

AUSTRALIAN law enforcement is in danger of being given a set of no-go areas in dealing with drug smugglers, based on a nation’s capital punishment policy.

A decade after being widely applauded for helping halt the Bali 9 drug smuggling attempt, the Australian Federal Police leadership is being subjected to public pressure to never repeat operations which saw the executions in Indonesia of convicted smugglers, Andrew Chan and Myuran Sukumaran.

That in effect means rejecting joint operations which could see nationals tried in judicial systems where the death penalty is a sentencing option.

It’s not a pledge the AFP can make, as was made clear in today’s extraordinary press conference called to give its side of the Chan-Sukumaran debate.

While I'm quite sure Lulu will be honest in her answer, I am still skeptical because on another thread she said, "I say outrageous things online to get people riled up". Can't really tell what's being said to rile people up or not.

Well, that would be a big fail here. When people have been killed so unjustly by a legal system that is so arbitrary, it overshadows anything anyone says.

I don' believe people should walk because they claim they have changed.

No one was calling for these two to "walk". Just for them to live. In Keroboken prison for the rest of their lives, doing their good works for others. I think that would have been punishment enough for their crimes. It's certainly more than they would have received in most civilized societies.

Thousands are expected to attend public funerals for Bali nine ringleaders Andrew Chan and Myuran Sukumaran in Sydney this week.

Sukumaran's family announced the details of his service "to farewell and celebrate the life of their son and brother Myuran".
The service will be held at DaySpring Church in Castle Hill on Saturday at 11am and is expected to finish at 2pm.
Sukumaran's mentor and artist Ben Quilty will speak at the service along with family and close friends.

Chan's funeral service will be held at the Hillsong Church in Baulkham Hills on Friday at 11am.
A Hillsong spokesman said the service would be conducted by Salvation Army minister and Chan's spiritual mentor David Soper.

Pastor Brian Houston from Hillsong Church spoke to both men several times in the last few months before they were executed on April 29.
“Trafficking of drugs must be a condemned behaviour, something that both Andrew and Myuran understand more than ever, but not one with such absolute and irreversible consequences.”

INDONESIA will stop sending maids to 21 Middle Eastern countries, after the recent execution of two Indonesian women in Saudi Arabia angered Jakarta.

The ban affects countries including Saudi Arabia — a major destination for Indonesian maids — United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Bahrain and Egypt, and will come into effect in three months’ time, Manpower Minister Hanif Dhakiri was quoted as saying in local media.

Indonesia’s anger at the executions of its citizens abroad comes despite the fact that Jakarta last week executed seven foreign drug convicts, including Australians Myuran Sukumaran and Andrew Chan, drawing a storm of international protest.

Absolutely heartbreaking :crying:

And, farewell to Myuran ....

About 1,200 family, friends and supporters have gathered at a service to farewell one of the Bali Nine ringleaders, Myuran Sukumaran, in Castle Hill in Sydney.

"Clearly, boldly and intelligently, under the most unimaginable circumstances, Myu was making the most potent and powerful anti-death penalty images the world has seen in a long, long time," he said.
- Ben Quilty

"I will work to abolish the death penalty, I will work for rehabilitation, I will do all I can to help people in need like you did. I miss you so much my friend." - Ivar Schou
