Obviously not current and something I suspect not many, if any, on here has heard about. But I am sure many of you will have heard about The Troubles in Northern Ireland. The history goes back over 700 years but this is one event which happened in 1971 and was followed on by the massacre in Derry, both played a massive role, some would say was the catalyst to The Troubles.

Airbrushed from History Books in the UK, false newspaper articles prompted by false reports from the British Army led to the majority having no real understanding of what went on. Channel 4 took the brave step last weekend to air this program. People in the UK finally were given their first Irish History lesson and many are angry that this was hidden from them. Many eyes have been opened. It is available on Channel 4 catch up for the next three weeks but for overseas viewers it can be watched on the following link. Warning, it is tough viewing.

Incidentally, the inquest into this started this week, while it cannot attribute criminal charges, it can determine unnecessary death. Meanwhile, the UK Government is trying to push legislation through whereby no past Service Men can be charged for acts while they were on duty in any jurisdiction.
